From rpgfan.com...

"Sega has announced that all North American online operations involving its discontinued Dreamcast console, with the sole exception of Phantasy Star Online Version 2, will be suspended this month. Apparently Sega had delayed the shutdown already once in the past.
Sega discontinued the production of the Dreamcast in March 2001 and opted to become a third party publisher, in the wake of a towering deficit."

Kinda stinks for fans of the free online ver 1...

Both version 1 and 2 play on the same servers, so more than likely both versions will still be able to play. Probably just a muck-up in the translation or some-such. My condolences to the people who still like to play other DC online games, though. It's no fun when good things come to an end. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

I'm sure both the players who still go on the DC servers will be disappointed.

Yeah. Unreal Tournament, Quake III, and some others I can't remember. This news sucks, beings as I just bought a brand new copy of version 1 in hopes of getting on for free http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

They'll probably merge over to PSOX. Since you can hack away on PSOX.(One reason why I feel everyone switched over). And ST wasn't getting any profit from ver1 anyhow.

I can do the same on PSO GameCube.

The only reason GameCube isn't as screwed over is because the files aren't becoming decrypted by the 12 year olds that want to hack but don't have a clue how. It's easier on the Xbox because of the FTP ability. Easier to transfer files and view them. ;3

The interesting thing about PSOX...There are items going around that have never been seen/heard of on GameCube. It's very interesting ;3

Meh i'll believe it when I see it, everytime they say the servers are going down they stay up. I want to hear this news directly from SEGA.

But wait! Version 2 and Version 1 players play on the same servers!

So, wait, this is only applied to Sega-run servers? Sonic Team runs their own servers, I'm sure.
