Yes, I know what you mean. I have been to the Holocaust Museum twice actually. Once with my family, and another time with our school because it was a Washington DC trip. Now the first time I went I was kind of young, and I didn 't really pay attention, but the second time I visited the museum I definitely knew what it was about and the seriousness of the subject.

I also was with a friend of mine who had never been, he and his dad were planning to go there together because his dad thought it was important to know about the Holocaust. Unfortunately, his father died of a heart attack before they ever got the chance, so I felt sad for him when he told me, and me and him took the trip very seriously.

Unfortunately, however, I still had anxiety attacks around that time, so when we were put into the elevator (a very small elevator), that takes you up to the museum, I panicked and had to catch my breath once I got up there. Although the images and articles really disturbed me, I tried to conceal my anxiety because I knew that the Holocaust Museum was not a place to freak out like that.

I was not insensitive like the majority of our class, I took my time in reading the articles of certain events in the Holocaust. Something that really bothered me was when someone had a Nokia cell phone in the museum... I just don't think that's a proper place to answer one's personal calls. But that's my opinion.

Well first off all contrary to popular belief the Holocaust included Poles, Gypsies, and others as well as Jews. Some of my family was in the Death Camps and we are not Jewish, but Polish. I never been there, would like to go though.

Sounds fascinating, I would love to visit sometime, but for now I don't have the money to go on big trips. One day however I will have to visit. Thanks for the post.

Yeah Dangerous, but Jews were the main target.

There's only one good thing that came from the Holocaust, and that's musmeums like this one, to remind us of the atrocities that the human race can do to each other, in hopes that we'll never do it again.

``````I've been there a few times, and it really made me think about how far humans would go to obtain a goal. Its kinda scary, you can see it in real life to, much more toned down, but you should just hear what people do to get something they wnt, or go somewhere, or do somethin, its crazy.
I marvel at how well it is constructed, the barrier, that holds your thoughts and freedoms down.
It's good that this place has been established, as it reminds us of what happens when paranoia and blind idealism take rein of an entire country of people and what the consequences are. There are lessons there that the world can benefit of, as the worst of humanity is shown.
In truth, in my early naivete, I never thought too much about it as a kid, until I was selling door-to-door one day and a kindly, elderly Jewish woman invited me in to talk for a while before discussing "business". Not knowing about her people too much, I asked her about their history. When it came to the Holocaust, that's when it hit home. Her husband was taken and slaughtered in the most horrifying, unreasonable and embarrassing way, and she wanted me to be sure I knew exactly what happened. I'm glad she did, for all I heard. I'll just say that I wasn't the same kid when I left her house.
There are still men out there like Hitler, who want to instill an insane sense of self-righteousness and nationalism. If this museum asks anything of us, it's that we do not let these fanatics and dictators pursue their deeds without opposition.
I live about 20 mins from DC, and I've been to the Holocaust Museum a muncha times. Every time its still as hard, i still cry, and i still have to leave.
I'm polish, so the entire thing hits close to home for my family. I'm glad i went though. It really helped me to appreciate what those people had to go through..
Maybe someday I'll actually be able to go through the entire thing..
Well, you have to look at the state of Germany at the time, then its understandable why he came to power.
Italy and the Jews that lived there had it pretty bad too. Have you guys seen the movie "Life is Beautiful"? It's a story of an Italian Jew and his family in a concentration camp. My grandparents' friends lived that movie right down to the wife (a young girl at the time) being hidden from the Nazis. They were the nicest Jewish couple you could ever hope to meet.
My grandparents grew up in Italy during the war, and my grandfather's farm near the sea was the site of several heavy battles and they lost a lot. Tanks would fire out from behind and around the house, it's amazing the stories he's told me.
War and suffering have always been in my family. One entire family of my mother's relatives were taken to a camp somewhere, and they were never seen again. While my father's father fought in the American Military as a young man throughout WW2, my mother's grandfather fought for Italy.
The most interesting story my family has about the war has to be my grandmother's. Her family were next-door neighbors to Mussolini himself before he became dictator. They were very close family friends. My grandmother's father would not join the fascists though, so he had to hunt to feed his family. Of course, that was illegal so they would catch him and put him in jail. Mussolini himself as dictator would come and let him out time after time.
My grandparents tell me many stories about tragedy and hope, and the Holocaust is always on their mind because many of their friends were Jews. These museums that tell the stories of families and people make me think about how the future will look on military actions of our present time. Will there ever be a museum of tortured and murdered people that met their death under Saddam? I don't know, but the holocaust stands to me as a sign that there is evil in this world that no amount of good intentions and diplomacy can stop.
I have been there too on a vacation same one in washington DC and the stuff there is realy amazing to see what the jews went throught and had to bear , it was heart breaking and not somthing pleasing to the heart it shows u the stupidity of mankind and how they can do things to make more pain in the world.
As I walked through the muesem they set up some of the rooms to look like bunkers there from the camps and as I was in there they had the sound of screams and screaming of children, I was frightened by this to imagine how humans had to live in a place knowing when their card was up or worst seeing your little girl ,son or wife get pulled out to be taken to a chamber or shooting squad, very very sad.
Well then after that I split from my parents to see the rest of the muesem by myself so I could move faster because I couldent take it any more. But some of the things I saw as I was going out was the suit cases that belonged to the jews that were put in a window for display, it really made a reality that these people actualy went through this.
Some times on rpg video games like ff7 when ur trying to track down the bad guy like sephiroth t kinda makes you think that really the bad guy isent really bad at all hes making sacrifices to make something better and you playing the good guy is just getting in the way just becasue of one life you might love, it puts things in perspecyive a little.
Nazis were all about:
-Nationalism
-War Rallies
-Militarism
-Pre-emptive war
-Flag waving
-Radio Propaganda
-Intolerance
-Racism
-Bigotry
-Homophobia
-Intimidation
-Law and Order
-Largest prison system in the world
-Anti-Communism
-My Country Right or Wrong
-Murdering Jews
What is odd is how Hitler called his party National Socialism, it had nothing to do with Socialism.
When the Nazis came to power they made labor unions illegal, imprisoned socialists and communists, and intimidated liberals, educators, the intelligentsia,and homosexuals. The Nazis were terrible people, and thanks to their media, which has an extreme conservative bias too it(more than Fox News), the Nazis gained support of most of the people in Germany.
Fortunately Franklin Rosevelt(He was a Liberal Democrat BTW) faught the Nazis with the help of the USSR(Russia, Soviet Union). After being liberated,a wonderful Socialism government was able to be formed http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
P.S(Im not posting site that says some of the stuff I posted because its flame bait)
