I don't even know if anyone is going to read this, as it seems to be a habit on the board to ignore people who haven't made very many posts. Nonetheless, I'm still going to post anyways, in the hope that someone with similar experiences will be able to answer the question that's nagging at me now.

Today started off well enough, in terms of my PSO time. I had the day off, so I was able to start playing PSO a bit earlier than usual, and finally made it to 58th level. Not a big deal for many of you who have exceeded that, but it was for me, since it takes a lot of effort to make levels for me these days. The day continued to go pretty well, and I even managed to get some pictures taken by Rei, since I was around when she logged in and started a game. Thanks a lot, Rei, it really made my day, and the pics will help when/if I ever manage to get a sig made. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Now, here is where things started to go wrong. I used a telepipe while in the Take-a-pic game Rei created, so that I could go back to town and grab a few Star Atomizers at the request of one of the other players. No sooner do I access the checkbox, than my connection gets dropped. And instead of the standard 'wait while your game is saved' dialog, it says that it is unable to save the game, and asks me to insert the memory card that I started the game on.

I didn't quite understand, and it took a while for it to sink in that even though I had the right memory card in the slot, it wouldn't save my game. Even after I disconnected the phone cord. The only thing that I COULD do was choose the option that said 'exit without saving'. So I did. And then tried to start another game, offline. And watched in dismay as the words 'This game data cannot be used' appeared on the screen.

It's been about an hour now, and I've realized that no matter what I do, I'm not going to be able to use the file containing my first and most favorite character. I realize that Artisan was nowhere near as high a level as many people here, but I had spent well over 150 hours on her, and it's all gone. The funny thing about it is, I can't even manage to feel too upset or angry about it now. I'm just kind of resigned to accept that it's happened. Which brings me to my question- I know that this has happened to other people here, and I'd appreciate knowing how they dealt with it? I've already decided that I'm going to start another character over again, but I can't bring myself to do it right now. Did the rest of you jump right back into the pool, metaphorically speaking, or did you just dangle your feet in the water?

Artisan, i was with you in that game, im so sorry for your loss.
see many people might get mad at what im about to say but.....i think that when something like this happens, it is perfectly ok to use GS to get your character back....theres nothing wrong with just doing that...IMO......my friend lost his game several times and he just got fed up with it and used gs to get his character and Lv back....i meen its not like it was your fault the game fuked you....you deserve to get back your hard eaned Lv .....you dont even get all your stuff back, so people cant say your cheating....i honestly beleive using GS for this purpose is legit, any other purpose is wrong. this is the only good GS brings upon the PSO community, and hopefully in the PSO Append Disk they will fix this bug, theyre fixing BSOD, so maybe this prob too......anyways, i will not think of you any less if you use GS to get your character back, i encourage you...
ok, everyone reem me.......

Hi artisan, just wanted to say that I know how it feels. Yesterday, after getting home from work, I kicked off my shoes and turned on the DC only to find a blank screen, no sound and no picture. After going through every possible hookup on my TV and receiver, I go to the local EB and buy a new AV cable. That doesnt work either and I was then faced with the fact that since I would have to buy a new DC......basically my lvl 99 and lvl 32 characters were gone. ALthough I was extremely lucky in that Sega can now fix this, heres how I was dealing with it all day today:
I mainly tried to think of everything I wanted to change about Maximus, my level 99 RAmar, everything from appearance, name and to how I built the stats up and even to what sector ID I wanted to try. I found that this really kind of got my mind off the fact that I lost my 1st and favorite character and I was actually getting excited about building a bigger, better Maximus. I hope that helps but Just think, when you first started your character, you, like most of us, were a newbie to the game and made a few mistakes such as ow you evolved your mag's stats. Now you'll have a chance to make a better character from the start and maybe learn a few things about the game that you missed on your first time as well. Think about it, you were most likely going to make another character anyways, think of it that way.

Hope that helps. Take Care

Well I didn't exactly lose my character, but I did loose everything I had, in the bank and with me. Only thing I had left was my Exp and time. It was hard at first because I didn't want to go online and start out with nothing, do to the new servers, So I played offline until I finally defeated Dark Falz on V-Hard. Thats when I decided there wasn't much left to do, and I missed playing online.
So I went online today, and man it's the shit to know that everything you have you've earned it. My freinds use to give me stuff and I use to trade a lot. But now it's like you know you've earned everything you got, and thats the shit.
Did I get off the topic. O well, keep ya head up Artisan.

Thanks, both of you. Reiken, I'm not offended about your suggestion about the Gameshark, and it is a good, practical idea. I'm just not going to run out and spend money on something that I'd only use once (hopefully, this'll only happen to me once). And yeah, it was in that same game that I was in with you. I went back to grab some Star Atomizers out of the bank for you, and that's when I got disconnected. Oh, well- you were a lot of help with the PK/pose thing (got some really neat poses out of it, especially with the Photon Claw). http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

After reading your and Powerslave's posts, I've decided on what to do. I'm going to start over a new character, and slowly start over again, without using a Gameshark to instantly hop back up the levels. Like Powerslave said, I now have the chance to do a few things differently, and with what I know now, I'm definitely going to change a couple of things. The main thing though, is that all those hard earned levels weren't really earned by me. They belong just as much to my friends and teammates as they do to me. If it weren't for some of the great players here and other places, I'd have never even made 20th level, let alone 58th. So I'll start back over again, getting help (and hopefully helping) from my friends, until I'm caught back up to where I used to be. Like someone said in another thread, "The fun is in the getting there".

Of course, now I have to go through the hassle of getting all those guild cards again...

This is very common in pioneer 2. They have some problem with the teleport device. When your isp drops your connection while teleporting.......You'll go nowhere...but black hole.

It's so sad http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_frown.gif. Reminds me of those transporter accidents in Star Trek. The good news is the second and third (and forth) time around seem to go much faster. Hook up with someone who has the ruins unlocked in normal. Stand back with any little handgun and let the other someone do all the heavy lifting. You'll get level 20 in a matter of a few hours. Then just do the hard routine the same way. I started a new Danger Girl on Tuesday and I'm in my mid 30's already. I'll be playing V-hard by the time I go to bed this morning http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif. I remember playing with you Arti...or could I be wrong? Anyway I'll be more than happy to help you http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif.

Ewww... gameshark, for any purpose other than playing imports, is just plain evil. Do not use it, it's a quick fix. Anything worth doing will take time, and leveling your character back up is worth that time.

Count me in as well Danger. I would be more than happy to assist you in getting some quick xp Artisan. First time that I ever played online, I had a couple higher levels help me out. Always a pleasure to help others out. I'll be on this morning as well and maybe I'll go play with Danger again if she isn't to bombarded with mail. LOL.

Oh Lysan!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooooo happy i got to meet you last eveninghttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif. It was alot of fun. We even got to be joined by the Griz.

Holy smokes I do get alot of mail don't Ihttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif. I give my card out to everyone who even bothers to say hello. So probabily like 13 million people have my card. Do you like how I just stand in the middle of a heated battle when answering my mail? Lol, they don't call me Danger Girl for nothing.
I guess thats the price of being the most beautiful girl on Pioneer 2http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Hehe. That makes the game more exciting Danger. Fighting off Guile Sharks and Nano Dragons while you are doing your "mail break" makes the game more exciting.LOL. What time are you going to be on this morning? I'll come over and protect you some more if ya like.

I would love it! I need a bodyguard. I get off work at 5AM CST, but have a long ride home, so I'll be on at about 6AM until probabily 10 or 11 AM. Also I don't get at least four mails every minute at 6am. Not that I mind the mail. But sometimes I actually do like to kill stuff http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif.

Yet another reason I wish I could go invisible. I get mail CONSTANTLY. I used to feel depressed about not knowing anyone on PSO, but now god has given me hundreds, and they sure don't hesitate to email me...

It's become so bad that I don't remember half the people who mail me. Many of times Sheo has had to stand in the middle of a room, monsters beating on him, answering mail from Hiro Shojin http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif (But you know I LOVE it)

I've become quite adept at using the cross pad to navigate the Sub screen while using the Analog stick to control my character. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif

Sheo you too huh? Don't you hate it when your in a game and you get like a hundred invites or people wanting to join, but you can't just leave. And I sure aint going to ask someone to leave!!!! How rude would that be! But having said that, I still do love to get mail. Even the "hey what sup babe" type ones http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif.

Don't I know it DG http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_frown.gif

My game fills up mere seconds after creating it, and then a minute or so later, I get 3 or 4 mails from friends asking to join. What can I do? I want to play with the friend, but I can't bring myself to toss someone out (Even if it's a stranger) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_frown.gif

I always end up feeling like a loser when I spend an hour in a full game, go out to the lobby, and find a few of the people who mailed me at the start of the game still waiting there, asking why I never let them in.

I've let that happen to a few people from here, and I never meant to upset anyone, so if it was you, don't think anything of it. It's sega's fault for limiting the Player slots to 4 http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah...yeah..thats it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif

Theres another Append disc addition I want: Increase the game size to 50 players. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hmmmmm..."What's up babe?", and I thought you weren't that kind of Danger Girl. Hehe. As far as mail goes, I don't have that problem. Most of the people I played with before weren't very conversation oriented. Just a bunch of Item mongers, BLEH! Hopefully that will change soon and I can get those "What's up babe?" mails. LOL.

LOL!! No way, you don't want those type. I have a female character I play (Level 49....thats all I will say...) And The reason I keep her offline 99% of the time is because every single lobby I enter is a torture chamber. The kids come in and immediately "Cyber-molest" My poor little lady Huntress. It was so bad, that I, at one time, had a small...ahemm(hehehe) "Clan" of so-called "Pk'ers" hunt her from lobby to lobby.

Although I cannot confirm the gender of those who play with me, my sensitivity to this subject (Having a female character and getting molested constantly) has endeared a rather moderate sized group of ladies to game with me on a regular basis.

Poor Shir, she posted on here once, said she was afraid to game with people because of that, and now, after responding to her post and gaming with her, have helped her gain 6 levels http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Sad to hear that Sheo. I've had that problem also on several occassions. I learned a long time ago that if you give them any sort of attention, positive or negative, they will feed off of it and continue their "behavior". If someone acts that way to me, I'll simply not acknowledge there existence. Anyone who doesn't have any respect for others deserves it in return Has worked every time for me.

Mar 15, 2001, 07:31 AM
Thats true, but many times it gets so bad, that I just can't take it. I remember when I first made Faydra that I had to switch Blocks at least 10 times, each time getting molested by another pre-teen Dragonball-Z addicted knucklehead who, although still too scared to take a shower in gym class, feels proud enough to remark about the size of himself to a picture of an anime girl on his screen, which is, in turn, controlled by a 25 year old guy.

Arrgghh

I've noticed Puck 9 isn't quite as bad as some of the other ships. They are out there though. I don't mind the playful flirting. It's the nasty, pornographic, sick, twisted, teenager who is in dire need of his mother to slap his face type harassment that ticks me off. When I see it, or fall victim I just march my little bum to the nearest exit.

Hey Artisan, about the guild cards, I found out that you can copy guild card files. And they will work on other dreamcasts. all you do is boot up your dreamcast with no disc. with two memory cards, one having your old character's save file and guild card file and the new one having those same files for the new char. The guild card file is not copy protected so you can copy and overwrite the new one.
I was scared as well of losing contact with all those I met on PSO, but at least theres a way around that. Once I get back online later today, Ill be glad to help you level up a bit.

Well, I started a new character last night, about 45 minutes before I went to bed, and ended the night at level 5. I'm sure I'll be back up to the 50's soon enough, especially with the help of Danger_Girl, Powerslave, and all the other cool people who have offered to help me out. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, I'm the same Artisan that you've played with, Danger_Girl. And talked with. And kept Dimenians off of your back while you answered tons of mail. Hee. It's true, people- Danger_Girl gets more mail than any five of us put together. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Now I'm kind of psyched about getting back into PSO, but I'm not going to have much time to play this month. In fact, I'll probably be online for a bit tonight, but I'm going on vacation to visit some family and friends in Atlanta (woo!) this Friday, and I won't be back until something like the 15th of next month. And my aunt doesn't have an internet connection at her house, so I probably won't be able to play PSO for a while (doh). Hope the offer still stands when I get back.

Oh, and when I started up Artisan v2.0, I went to the chat option to check out my Guild Cards, and they were all there! So it looks like you were right, Powerslave. It saves the Guild Cards in a seperate file, so they didn't get deleted when I overwrote the corrupted game file. At least that makes things a little easier.

Hi guys, this is my first post here.
Sorry to intrude, but I have been looking low and high for trusty players and from what I have read in these forums you have pretty good players here.

As for the harassing, yeah, it can get on your nerves easily. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif I play Mihoshi, a 26lvl HUnewearl (after losing her two times to a 4x Performance VMU). Can you guess how often she gets hit by pre-adolescent cubs?

Anyway I usually hang around in Titania, blk4, hope I can meet you sometime. Where do you usually meet? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Mar 15, 2001, 01:53 PM
I'm not sure what bug got me. I was playing with a friend and the screen just froze. And after a couple of minutes, like a dummyhead, I turned off my Dreamcast. Of course, when I Got back, I was 'unable to use data for this game' or whatever that fun little message was.
How I coped! I wrote a letter to the few friends I played with swearing never to play the game again! Then I complained to everyone online, even if they didn't know what PSO was!
Then an hour later I started another character. And hey, Shir has a nice bitter past thing since her sister mysteriously dissappeared. Amber was level 54 when I lost her, I didn't have anything special in my item box. But it was still two weeks of work.
I wonder if it's sad that it took me 3 days or so to get Shir past where Amber was in the game (though not past her level, guess I had to re-do quests a few less time this time around)
I've had fun playing with you, Sheo, hope I haven't been adding to your frustrations of too many friends to keep track of.
For the append disc, if a 'group' is 4 people, and you play on teams, wouldn't that be at least 8 people online? I assume group numbers were limited because it's not a challenge if you have 10 people online. I already pity the bosses just playing with you guys. As it is, 10 people would stomp into the room and the poor dragon would run away.

Rei

I second ReikenFeralsbane?s motion; I personally, lost a level 98 character with 250+ hours to its credit. Now, the simple fact that I would recreate my character, using GS does not qualify me as a cheater. Sorry! I just don?t have another 250+ hours to spare on reinventing the wheel. The 250+ hours must give some sort of clout? If not, to each there own!
