View Full Version : Avoid Trade Window Scam

The original thread is here:
http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=56674&forum=4&2 but i felt it would be nice to have this as a separate topic. If a mod feels they need to move it, thats cool, it understand.

I feel as though I've been given SO MUCH great info from this site that I should help out in an albeit small way. I bought the game used froma video rental store, so I never had an instruction booklet or guides of any kind. I was hooked on Diablo 2 making cheats and mods for that game at the time, but a friend said I should give this a try so I did and I've loved it ever since. Anyway, I digress LOL.

To avoid the trade window scam easily:
SIMPLY HAVE THE OTHER TRADER TELEPORT WITH YOU TO THE FOREST REAL QUICK, THAT BREAKS THE CHEAT CYCLE. WHEN YOU TELEPORT BACK YOU ARE READY TO TRADE. THE OTHER TRADER SHOULD NOT NEED TO GO ANYWHERE BUT POSSIBLY THE BANK (WINK, WINK).

Follow that and you'll be just fine. See how easy it is?

HAPPY TRADING http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

You could just veryfy his items which causes the data to be resent which would show you if the items are really there or not.

True, but teleporting breaks the whole cycle. Who knows what else can be done when you're in the cycle. Verifying will for now show you the "true" trades, but why not avoid the whole mess. If they wanted to scam you, then they probably won't trade anyway. So why waste your time going through the whole trade process only to find you're being scammed. Break it from the start and then see if they still want to trade.

I'm completely lost here. What am I trying to avoid? Can somebody give me an example?

VioletSkye

If I was going to scam you. I would open up a trade with you. We would agree on the items to exchange. I can't tell you how its done, but the end result is that you trade me your items and I would trade you nothing, even though you saw the items I was going to trade you in the trade window. When you go into your inventory you would see that none of the items that were in my trade window are in there. Hence, you get nothing and I've just stolen your items.

LOL, I hope that made sense, as I have said many times, the way I phrase things is sometimes hard to follow. My brain knows what its thinking, but explaining it is not my strong suit. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Is this that one glitch works off of the other new glitch that allowed duping?

VioletSkye

Exactly right http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Wouldn't it just be easier to just dupe the items you want to trade and then trade those off so you get both? But, I guess some idiots just enjoy irriating others.

i just make sure I get their guild card and meet them in the lobby, so they dont have time to set up the trade scam.

I want to know: is the area you're supposed to go to limited to the Forest, or can you go anywhere?

And is there a specific time I'm supposed to enter an area? I want to find out because I'm trying to spread this precaution at another forum.

Thats a good idea. This post pertains mostly to people entering random trade games though. Unless you made the game and monitored their movement you might not know if they are trying to scam you. Also I should reiterate the verify items does work against the scam, I only recommend the teleporting because if someone is trying to scam you, they will probably not agree to it and you won't waste your time with them.

If you did the full cheat correctly, then going to verify items wouldn't give you away

Really? Interesting. Well then hot foot it down to Ragol real quick and remove all doubts. Megaman, we should meet online and you can try it on me so I can see that it doesn't work. Not saying I don't believe you ( I do), I would just like to run some other tests also with someone who already knows whats going on.

Can't go online right now, I have to renew hunter license

If you are looking to do tests at this time, you might be able to find someone from Broomop's site to try it with (if you know which site I'm talking about, I don't want to post it here)

But one way you can always be safe is to just dupe the stuff you're trading, so if you get ripped, you didn't lose anything, people might start getting annoyed (whether trying to steal from you or not) if you always asking everyone to teleport down with you every time you setup a trade, I open on average three windows with the same person before making a trade (don't ask)

What the heck are you talking about? Telepipe to forest to break cheat cycle... use verify on final confirmation to see true items.... i dont understand!

Reenee
Jun 30, 2003, 10:35 AM
Before you do the final confirmation, go back to the verify items command to see that the items are still there. And going down to an area is supposed to interrupt the glitch causing this.

I seriously doubt they will get annoyed and if they do, who cares? I say its better to be safe than sorry. I agree about duping your items just in case, however, this post is geared more towards the few who still do not know how to dupe their items, in which case, they stand to lose out big time if someone scams them. As for the site, yeah I know the one you mean http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Hi Everyone,

When I first heard about the trade scam window these were exactly my thoughts. Just ask someone to go down to say F1 for a "Demo" of the items. If they absolutely refuse, then to be on the safe side don't trade. It would be quite funny to see what would happen to two scammers who tried to use this trick on one another though, hehe http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The trade goes through, but with no items exchanging, just as you'd expect.

this should be sticky, or at least the explanation of how to prevent trade window scam should be permanently documented on this site

Why do you care? Its none of your business. Anyone who has ever read any of my posts has probably heard me say this numerous times. There are TONS OF MEMBERS of these forums who dupe, exploit, etc. that you would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER guess. Also you need to understand that those other forums are actually FOR CHEATING, unlike this forum. Ergo, you are obviously going to find all manner of cheating items, whether it be hacked files, programs, tutorials or whatever. Also you need to understand that quite a few of the members here also belong to those other forums. This is not the only PSO community by a long shot. Halla has every right to post a tutorial if he wants. Hell I had a duping tutorial that I had written posted on my site. My point is there are members of these forums that people may look up to that are not squeeky clean, and you'd never guess who they are in million years. (well ok, maybe thats a "slight" exaggeration. LOL)

Heh, relax. I wasn't upset when I posted. And it wasn't directed at you persoanlly. I guess sometimes my posts come off as sounding somewhat harsh, angry and/or annoyed but I'm not LOL. I know its the wording on my posts, but I rarely notice it unless I go back and reread it. The strange thing is I'm actually a very articulate and diplomatic person in the real world, but for some reason those qualities never seem to make the post LOL. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Right, I suppose what I meant to say was that it would be interesting to see how the two scammers would react after ghost trading eachother.

It sort of reminds me of an old Alfred Hitchock Presents episode entitled "The End of Indian Summer" where a woman who is being pursued by an insurance investigator for being widowed twice under mysterious circumstances (all poisoned during the honeymoon) marries a man who has lost four wives (all drowned during their honeymoon). Together, they take off on a cross country railroad trip and while she's preparing to bathe in a tub he slowly approaches her as he finishes off a meal she had just fetched for him...

I find akward situations like that funny, I dunno maybe it's just me http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
