Have I just wasted my time doing all the hard quests?

I didnt ask "whats your purpose?" when I was talking to sue in black paper, bernie turned up in knowing ones heart after that but in seek my master the quest didnt come to an abrupt end in the room before zoke as described in the guide

I tried going back to black paper but sure doesnt show up there anymore o_O

so can I still get the ragol ring online, or did I just waste my whole day doing all the hard mode quests?
