What are the requirements to get to play different difficulties in the normal game on multiplayer? Any answer is appreciated.

lvl 20 for hard, lvl 40vhard, and lvl 80 for ultimate.

The multiplayer mode on the GameCube is like online mode, but without the hassle of having to connect to the internet and get a hunter's liscense.

There are level requirements restricting you from entering the higher difficulties:
-Hard: Level 20
-Very Hard: Level 40
-Ultimate: Level 80

Those same rules will apply when you're going online and trying to get into a higher difficulty level. Your progress in that difficulty setting will reflect the availability of spacific levels in online/multiplayer. For example, having unlocked the Ruins in Hard mode while single player will allow you to go dirrectly to the Ruins in Hard mode when traveling online.
