The flame means that it will dodge all physical attacks that it is capable of blocking with a close attack to the front. To deactivate the flame, you have to dissipate it, meaning to wear it out. The more they block with it, the smaller the flame becomes. When it runs out they cannot block anymore, but if they slash you, it will regenerate their shield. They can still do three hit combos and everything else without the flame, its really not that different. To surpass the 100% close range frontal blocking, either use a technique, preferably of the Barta class, circle behind it and attack, or use something like a gun or partisan at a considerable range. Note that with the flame it will also block gun attacks that are shot near point blank.

And that is that.
Doesn't add defense, or any set evasion, since it bloks 100% when following the guidelines.

EDIT- Also note any hits from the three hit combo of a Delsaber will not regenerate its shield. Only the single slash will do this.
