I have some questions about getting online

Alright, how many times have you heard this question? lol alright, I downloaded the PC trial and I got a tase for playing online and now I must get my gc online! The sweet sweet taste of online play I loved it so! Well here's the problem,I'm really confused about how to get online. I need to know the answer to the following questions:

1. If I get the broadband adapter, can I hook it up to my Broadband modem thats in the room across from my gamecube?

2. How would I do that?

3. When I put the adpater in, how do I connect it to my adapter?

4. How do I sign up to play online?

Oh this is so confusing, someone please help me! lol
and I have an opinion question,

Should I make a new file and a new character for online play so I won't lose my better character?

yes and no, as it depends on the ype of modem you have, if its conected to your P.C using an ethernet conection then all you do is wire an ethernet lead straight into the modem, unpluging the P.C first
if it is a USB modem, the you need to use internet conection sharing

ethernet modem Gamecube BBA is conected to the modem with a patch lead,
USB modem, Gamecube BBa is conected to a spare Network card on your P.C with a crossover ethernet cable

3. When I put the adpater in, how do I connect it to my adapter?

follow the instructions on the homepage function, its easy a;lthough you will need a credit card if you are in north america, in europe, debit (solo/switch)and credit cards are acepted
