I love the sounds of electric guitars so very profoundly, i wouldnt know what to do without all those great guitarists out there, and to give them some credit, id like to start a thread about it.
For which guitarist do you have deepest recognition, or maybe whos your idol, and why?
To start with me, i go for playing style over music genre, therefore my credits go to either Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave, or John Frusciante of The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
If you would have seen either of them live, and have seen what they are truly capable of, you would agree, or so i hope.
And not to forget about Jimi Hendrix, whos playing skills are so deeply honored by the likes of me. What i shame he had to pass away. But his music is timeless, endless.

A guy named John Williams, and i'm not talking about the guy who created the Star Wars theme. He's good.

If it were still 1992 then yes he would be up there. Now he can go to hell. The all time best in my opinon is John Petrucci from Dream Theater. Listen to there stuff, it nothing short of amazing, and if you like technical instrumetals, check out liquid tension experment, also with John, its simply unreal.

Interesting.

slash from guns n roses.

Yeah, hes quite famous for his skills and style, but i dont know him all too good, maybe i should check him out...

and dave grohl ain't too bad on the old guitar himself.

Haha! I would have never expected this, Dave Grohl being voted as one of the best guitarists...
hm... i admit, hes doing way better then i thought he would with a guitar, but honestly, he should stick to the drums, i have rarely seen such a great drummer, i think he changed to guitars solely due to the fact of being a frontman.
But he is known for being a real musical talent, you have to see this guy...

True, i totally forgot about Carlos Santana, quite impressive no one mentioned him before.
But i think hes more hyped than he actually is skilled, or lets put it this way, people hype him more than they actually know of him, nowadays he shows much less of what hes truly capable of, or that might just be me...?

The dude from the White Stripes.
Amazing. Simply amazing what he can do.

This guy knows exactly what hes doing. Although the White Stripes should get a bassist! They could get so much bigger. oh well, maybe that is exactly their trademark.
By the way, Audioslave covered Seven Nation Army quite a few times live now...

no doubt hes a better drummer, but when he records the entire first foos album by himself it gives you an idea of just how well-rounded he is. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Dave Mustaine(sp?)

no, it's a shame that none of you have mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughan, probably one of the most skilled guitarists ever

Malsteem, Satriani, Hendrix, Vai....al insanely good but not my cup of tea. There's no denying their "rockiness" though.

The two guitarists in Death By Stereo also freaking shred (I forgot their names, but they're insanely good). Fletcher from Pennywise can do some insanely fast palm muting.

Bah, your all wrong (and to all of you who said Satriani, EVIL!!!).

It's very easy.
Best guitarrists?
Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Bootsy Collins, Ichiro Agata, and "Member who is yet to be named" (who happens to be my band's guitarist).

I'd say Paul 'Earthquake' Pena, but he's not known so much for guitar as he is throat-singing... But he can play a mean guitar!
