I can do them in furry/anthropomorphic style but as humans it looks weird. (Aren't toes strange anyway? Hmm...) As my old art teacher used to say, "References, references, references!" I recommend Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy for referencing tough spots like hands and feet. And then of course there is your own feet, which are (hopefully) always available to study structurally.
