FanArt: A work in progress... constructive criticism wanted

So the story goes like this: a friend persuaded me to start up a little PSO art project using all of our characters. Thus far, I've got two of them roughly done, and I'd like some suggestions and whatnot on the one I'm most happy with.

This would be my character, Evion. I just want some opinions on body proportions, details, et al. The main thing I'm concerned about before I 'shop it is the left hand. Should I draw out what you could see behind that Kasami or should I leave it to the imagination? I've had a hard time deciding on whether the drawing needs it or not.

So yeah. Hope you enjoy it.

That is one awesome drawing. Personally I would like to see the arm maybe you could put something in his other hand idk. That's just what i think.

As for the left hand, my eye wants to see part of a fist under the Kasami Bracer, just barely peeking out. The legs are somewhat confusing to me...I have a hard time figuring out where his calves are. Which HUmar suit is this (or should I just wait till you color it)? cajun/Flux - Yeah, that's basically what I was thinking I should do with the partially obscured fist. You guys read my mind, me thinks. Either that or it was just aesthetics.

Flux - The legs are a little weird, but I wasn't bugged by the calves... maybe I should try to reposition them? Anyway, this is the purple outfit on the top row.

And FYI I wanted the RAmar/FOmar hair, so I used it. It's not my fault HUmars have bad hair options.

another suggestion id make, COLOUR!!!. course, u'll probably add colour later, but pretty things are made prettier with cooooolllllloooooouuuuuurrrrr

The feet seem too aligned with each other, though it could just be the angle you drew the legs in.

Overall, a good pic, and one that I'm looking forward to colored.

All that aside, yeah the hand is going to be added in. Well, what you see of it anyhow.

And Hiko, the legs are basically at the same position, except the right leg is a little farther back... not by much.

So yeah, look for improvements anywhere from a day from now to friday.

And yes, there will be glorious photoshoppage with it.

lol. I agree witht the bad hair options for the HUmars. If they have a model that they spread out for other male characters, they should just allow it for all of them. (mrmrmrmrm.)

Coo, I can see the purple outfit on this now. I was unsure because of the texture on the left arm. For some reason I thought it might be either the orange (Ash) outfit or the red one because of the legs.

The words of my old reliable (and eccentric) art teacher are coming back to me..."What you have here is a foreshortening problem." That is, concerning the legs below the knees. I like the way the feet have him balanced, but the thing is, I can see the calf (below the knee, above the ankle) portion of the legs moving in a different direction...I really wish I could draw an example of what I'm thinking of and show it to you! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

This is a somewhat similar stance (and I apoligize for the crappy example), so maybe it'll help give you an idea. http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Sara-Steege/S%26AHorseyback_Gray.jpg I recommend using a sort of tipped cylinder shape to puzzle out the physicality of the leg, and then position the foot in there accordingly. And since your pic seems to be drawn in ink (?), yet your response indicates that it isn't permanent, major changes to that part are possible??

Ah yes, great advice. I'll definitely brush up on my foreshortening problem later, made much easier thanks to what you just pointed out.

Anyway, I do the sketch first in pencil, then when I'm happy I ink it using my trusty sakuras, then I lightbox that inked version over to another sheet of paper, where I then ink it over again. Basically all so that it will come out clean on the scanner.

Simple, no?
