how much does it cost to start a x-box live account? is it just 50?

yep...you pay 50 and get a year subsribsion with that.

That account will let you play PSO offline. To put it online, you'll also need a broadband internet connection and the pso online fee of 8.95 a month.

But just the Live account will let you play offline
