Aol eh!? It sucks! I know people have been saying this for years and I've never really listened.

I actually stood up for it the other day. My friend was whining about how bad it was etc... and I told him I've had no problems with it so I'm happy sticking with it.
THE VERY SAME DAY (How Ironic, thinking back I was asking for it) AOL crashed twice on me. Now I find it unlucky if I crash once, but twice!? This has now become a regular occurence.

Then I found I can't click on links my friends give me in MSIM anymore. It was fine the other day, now I have to copy and paste and it just doesn't respond!

Another thing is it keeps opening up 'AOL entertainment' or something for no reason, and taking forever to load up AND wont respond right away to me clicking exit!

But the worse thing of all is my BPS have decreased Dramatically! I tried at different times of the day changed dial phone numbers and instead of being connected on my usual 44k(ish) I'm now stuck on 28-30!
I hate AOL! I've only had it for a couple of months and this is the first time I've really realised just why people have a huge dislike for it. Feel free to Bash AOL here.

By the way how do I cancel my subscription? I'm going for freeserve.

*Edit: Another thing I've Now noticed is, it doesn't load some images proppally. A few pictures just stay 'blurred'. My signature for example and a few others. Aol says 'Done' at the bottom of the screen when quite obviousely it isn't. I've tried refreshing and all sorts.
Damn AOL. Damn it to hell.

I knows it's not my computer though as I've gone through it with a fine tooth combe.

If he had the MSblast worm he would be getting a windows countdown timer before his computer shut down..... every time he logged into it. As for cancelling the AOL, the last time I had it was in 96 and I had to call their customer service and tell them to cancel it. There wasnt any other way. But I dont know if that has changed at all.

Anything that gives itself away as much as AOL does is bound to be garbage.

I have aol, I put up w/21000 bps(16800 at worst), and i do just fine with the internet.

Yer hovering between the speed of a 14.4 and 28.8? Good god man, why even bother getting on the internet? It just boggles my mind WHY you stick with AOL, when you could get a cheaper and faster internet service in roughly 15 minuites. Many of them allow you to create your account over the phone and have you up and running within a matter of minuites.

Never trust and ISP that gives you proprietary software that you have to use to connect. That's a standing policy of mine. If I can't access it with only a Dial-Up networking connection.. then I don't want it.

I have AOL, and I agree that it sucks. One thing for certain, I wanted the AOl CAll alert feature. So, I went rhrough clicking, reading everything so I wouldn't have to pay anything I don't want to. Then, it said "click here to get" and I got it. Then on the last screen, it said 'Thank you for signing up for AOL CAll Alert, you will be billed $8.95 a month"

...they jipped me...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Hey thanks for the advice and what not guys. I'm definetly changing to FreeServe. As for a worm virus, I'm pretty sure I haven't got one. (Installed loads of virus scanner programs etc. to check)

And as for the aol disks? As a last resort (Pathetic I know) I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling. Ironic how there is never an AOL disk around when you need it!? I spent ages looking for one!

*super hug* Jebus, why hasn't that ocurred to anyone!? AND WHAT ABOUT THOSE "SPECIAL EDITION" ONES THAT COME IN A TIN CONTAINER! BONUSSSSSSS!

Don't forget they're great for frisbees, random objects to break to the ground, anger let-out devices (grab a sledgehammer and smack it), and great tools to decapitate dogs.

a friend of mine hid his porn in those and we somehow discovered it. So now we tease him and always as how his AOL cds are doing.

I like to microwave them, they look kool when dey go up in sparks.

Vanango
Aug 23, 2003, 02:34 AM
speaking of microwaving, if you put in a florescent light in the microwave and nuke it, the light will actually turn on.

I don't really recommend doing that because you can easily break your microwave that way and end up having to buy a new one.

I agree. I try to do artistic things with them. I made a mosaic once but that didn't turn out very well. I used them to decorate my room once. I taped them to the wall and the sunlight would reflect off of them and make my room all pretty and rainbowy.

Of course frisbee/ammo is a great use for them...

AActually Rudoku's right broadband works better than dial-up, and I still have no problems with the service. And Brillyfresh, your yahoo is costing more than AOL. And when they update it's more than "ten new smilies", if you actually new a thing or two about the damn service.

That doesn't change the fact that people keep spouting crap on how much AOL costs when the yahoo DSL costs more.

AOSmell must die. Without even getting into how much is incompatible with it's dialup connection, or how many things won't let AOL members sign up, which makes sense because the vast majority of them -are- idiotic lamers(Although if you ever need a boost of self-confidence, a trip to the AOL chatrooms will make you feel like the only worthwhile member of the human race for a while)...
Ooh, and how often it crashes? And how much frecking system resources it hogs(And doesn't let go of like it should, cooperative multitasking sucks, children, and you shouldn't use Windows ME if you can avoid it, while we're on the subject)... And the random losing of connection... And all that other wonderful garbage.
I've had that thing with it not loading images properly, too, a couple years ago. Another thing I've noticed is that even when it does load images, it still sucks ass. Probably a bad setting somewhere... If I load up a .jpg of one of my fanart images(Which are usually about 300KB or so, huge) in AOL, it will look like complete shit even though the .jpg's quality is obscenely disgustingly high. If I load it in Mozilla, it will look the way it's supposed to.
Yeah... AOHell sucks and needs to die.
And I hate the "Welcome!" guy. Grargh.
