Lost mem cards and rare weps

If you're a GCN user why not store the cards in the Card slot inside the casing? I don't leave cards around much anymore...I remember losing an old N64 card and I managed to find it, full of dust and pretty worn...I found out all data on the card corrupted...oh well.
