Here's sometyhing you didn't know, if you combine these numbers:
12 Character Classes
9 Hair Styles (10 Hair Styles if you count the additional hair style of the opposite sex)
18 Costumes
4 Skin Styles
and
5 Face Styles.

And the total combinations of the way you can make your characters are:

43,200 If you count the 10 custumes
and
38,880 If you count the 9 custumes.

Don't forget that androids have a 3rd row of costumes, but doesn't have all colors.

Androids would have to be counted differently, since they don't have hair styles or faces, but heads and like you mentioned, more costumes.

Don't forget the differences created by proportions. A max height FOmar with face 2, hairstyle six in light blonde, the last costume in the second row and the lightest skin tone looks different from the same choices on a min height FOmar, for example. One looks like an adult, and the other looks like a little kid.

Assuming ST uses the standard 24 bit RGB color system for the hair, there would be 2^24 or 16777216 different possiblities just for the hair color alone. Now, if we just knew how the proporitions worked out, we could figure the number of possibilities there.
