'Cheap' meaning this weapon requires no skill to use, meaning a person could clear rooms of monsters with out every being hit or receving any damage. The weapon isn't fair, you don't have to be good to play the game all you have to do is press the button for the special and parlyze alll the enimes and then press the regular attack button to kill them. I just don't like the weapon because it takes alll the challenge out of the game. Hence the word cheap is used when describing it.

I think its more of who is using the spread actually...when I had my spread I spent most of my time actually trying to help people by paralyzing the enemies, then letting everybody kill the things. I tried my best not to hog the experience and if I saw that people weren't getting hits in I'd ask em if the weapon was bothering them. If they said yes I'd put it away and pull out my Justices, if not then I'd let em know that I would paralyze the monsters so they could get as many hits as on all the monsters as possible. I think the spread can be a useful weapon if used right...but it can be a very cheap, experience hogging weapon too...IMHO, it all depends on the user. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

It's just that it's such an unbalanced weapon in terms of speed and range. I find it really hard keeping up with Spread Needle users as I can only hit (max) 4 baddies at a time with my poor ol' Dragon Slayer, and that requires a good deal of manuvering just to get into a good offensive position in the first place. It's very frustrating when you're trying your best to kick some rump, yet constantly get showed up by someone popping off rounds from the comfort of their La-z-boy recliner in the back of the room http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Trying to paralize enemies is fine, but I sacrificed the HP and defense of a HUcast and chose HUnewearl so that I would be able to perform such techniques. I dunno, guess it just makes me feel less useful on a team when someone can just gung-ho it through the Ruins essentially on their own.

If you've ever played Team Fortress Classic, I have the perfect comparison. A Spread Needle is like the Heavy Weapons Guy, it does too much damage and can be used by someone of very little skill too easily. It's cheap in the sense that it hogs all the exp, and even if you paralyze everything that still doesn't give other players the joy of the hunt, so to speak.

I'm level 80 and I've been using Spread Needle ever since I hit Vhard. It's great in the Vhard Ruins, but it's not a world-beater by any means. I'm a RAmar, with maxed out ATP, and yes, I DO do 200 damage-- on a critical hit. Compare this to our lv83 HUmar, who does 600 or so on a critical hit with his Dragon Slayer.

Personally, I don't think anyone other than a Ranger can use the spread needle to its fullest potential. Unless you have 150+ ATP, you're going to whiff with that gun like crazy on the hard shots (the weak ones aren't worth using), and when you're the Hunter and everything's coming straight at you, well... let's just say Spread Needle wasn't designed for toe to toe combat.

Then again, in my group, only Rangers use the Spreads we turn up. If you want to use a gun, why the hell did you pick a Hunter in the first place? Sheesh.

All depends on the personality of the user.

The Spread Needle is a handy little weapon, and powerful. Though frankly most of the people who use it shouldn't have a cap gun, much less a full-on multi-targeting energy crossbow.

A person packing the Spread Needle makes a *great* escort for lower-level players who need XP fast. The lower level guys get in their hits and run, and the Spread Needle-packing bodyguard hoses the enemy down to cover their retreat.

I agree with you last, i have played half-life and team fortress classic and the heavy weapons guy is so powerful and requires little skill.

I really dont like the spread needle, it is just way too cheap of a weapon because of its ease of use. I was just able to use it today, and i dicided that id get rid of it because it just isnt fun playing with it. Orotiagito all the way!

Spread Needle...

I was in a game today, when one of my friends logged on, and joined my game. Surprisingly, he had a Spread Needle. Then again, he was level 87, so I'm not too surprised if he really did find it.

Anyway, even though we were playing in VH Caves, and the other two players with me were at level 40-55, I politely asked if he could use a different weapon, and he did. ^_^

Even though it would have made the game a lot easier, why did I ask him to put it away?

Simple. The thrill of knowing that you can die much more easily increases teamwork among the players. Without the Spread Needle, we were forced to Shifta/deband/resta/reviver practically most of the time... and it was much moe fun that way.

I dunno... make your own choice. But I'd go without Spread Needle anytime. ^_^ Just a trusty Varista, my Hell Gungnir, and my double saber is all I need... ^_^

Oh, and 10 Trifluids too. ^_^;

Right you are, Monkey! Give me my sniper rifle any day, it feels good to head shot HWs as they try to stand in front of their base and take out your attacking group. I'm not badmouthing everyone who plays HW, but why not pick a class that requires practice and skill (like a sniper, which I'm quite satisfied with)?

As for the Spread Needle (and to PSO again, I've been playing a lot of TFC recently) I too own one, but I only use it for one thing: De Rol Le. Other that that I feel that it's just a "cheap weapon", cheap referring to everything that I already said in my previous post. It's ok for solo play too, but it eliminates some of the fun factor you get from working together as a team.

Disagree all the way. Our normal three-man Vhard Ruins team is a HUmar with a dragon slayer, a FOnewearl with a who cares (just kidding-- she uses a double saber to suck up mad amounts of TP via the special attack, but is mostly there on Resta and Rabarta duty) and me, a RAmar (arguably the weakest class in the game) with a Spread Needle. I paralyze things and weaken em with the shots-- WEAKEN, mind you, the damage is still pathetic compared to the HUmar.

As for Hunters running around with Spread Needle, yes, fuck that. The Spread should be Ranger only. I use it for one reason and one reason only-- the speed. Incredibly slow speed is the reason I won't touch a mechgun or spreader, and frankly, my old VISK*235W was not doing enough damage to really make any kind of difference in the Vhard Ruins, considering it was just softening up one enemy at a time. Now I can soften 'em all up, as opposed to taking up a worthless slot in the party. Works for me. RAmar can't kill-hog with a spread needle-- we just don't do enough damage, believe me.

ive heard many discusions on this topic, yeah i think its pretty cheap to use, and ive used it with my RAmar and did mostly 400+ dmg to each thing in the room after about 2-3 days i disided to put it away and only use offline or alone online, for power lvling. Even on boss's its kinda boring like the mines boss, dies so fast its over before it starts, i have a hunter now, and i tried it on him, didnt like it at all, went back to swords, but on a good note, (to some anyway) i think that the spread has been toned down in Ver.2

I agree, i have a needle and out of respect i don't use it much but when the room fills up suddenly with a lot of people like in ruins with those dimenians i para them all and let the others hack away. I use the needle mostly becuse it can paralyze and help pther people out. But somee people go on killing sprees and kill an entire room w/o lettin the team even enter the door those are the cheap people who should not have this weapon along with the heavens punish, i mean for 100 beats the people with 1 can be pretty cheap.

frankly the spread isnt all to great for me sure it is a exp hogger but thats not what I'm about infact a friend gave me a spread needle I traded it for a chain sawd a item I fell in love with since I saw it after about 30 min. it truly does make the game boring but if some body whant to use it go ahead no skin off my back just take it easy ok?

Online, as everyone else has said it can really be a exp and fun stealer, you get sick of running up to enemies and having them die just as you are swinging. However I have played with people who will use is to paralyze which is ok by me because we are all contributing and getting exp.

Offline it can be good for quick exp,,,,,,,BUT it really turns this game into a "button masher" and it becomes a chore to go through levels because there's no action.
