K, it's confirmed. You can split BLUE slimes into RED slimes using rabarta. I was playing in Caves 2 with a friend last night and *HOLY COW!* A red Slime fell on the ground when I froze the first one. Eventually we killed off the other three, and when we got the red one it dropped a Branch of Paku Paku. ^_^!

You can also split them with your regular weapons aswell. All you have to do is miss the first 2 attacks of your combo and hit it with the 3rd attack. I usually do special special soft/hard with an untekked common weapon. Congrats on the find though.
