Thanks to navi and Cerris for their help with figuring how to get the saber right. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif The only thing I'm not very pleased with about this pic is the bloody calves. In particular, the one on the left is bothersome to me...Just didn't turn out very well. *grumbles* Oh well...That's what I get for not doing it the first time through. (Not to mention forgetting to make a back-up of the base colors.)

Nothing like a freshly-waxed HUmar for that high-gloss finish. ^_-

I like it. It almost seems a little... -too- shiny, though. o.O His left calf does look a little squicky, too... But it's still very good. ^^ Better than I could do.

Hey, that came out really good. =) I like the finish on the Saber; very cool effect. Great detail in the outfit, too.

Solin must stay up late at nights polishing his armor. ;p

How to help/fix the calf?
One piece of art advice that I recieved a long time ago, still serves me pretty well, and I think it might help you along with anyone here, so I'll post it up.

When you draw, always try to get some photo-reference, even if you have to sort of splice them together to get the pose you want. Either that, or look it off yourself in a mirror. Even if you don't have the same physical structure, most of your pieces and parts still move similarly. The only time this breaks down a bit is male vs. female (the hips go wrong) and people or things with lots of muscle, they won't move the same.
Or...a game screenshot serves well also, in the case of PSO.

Why?
Because if you draw off of someone else's drawing, you take on that artists' flaws also. And you can get to a point where there's this one really frusterating thing and you don't know what to do so that YOU can make it right, but if it was wrong in the original...it just makes a loop.
By using photos and screencaps and yourself if you have to, you're not going to be coming in with any anatomy errors, built in misconceptions or anything like that, that whoever it was that drew before you, aquired. You can still make errors, but they're so much easier to get away from/fix up.

I hope this helps to cure your problem! (it fixed a bunch of mine) And I also like the hair!

ok... just to warn you i have been drinking a LOT... i think your pic is good but the arms are short... they need to come down just a little... mid-thigh is always a good place to start... i really like the coloring and dont have much to say but its awesome... as far as the calf goes, real reference goes a long way. photo refrence goes a long way also, as well as screen shots... i think the calf fits well with your art style which is quite unique in its own right... keep up the good artworks and keep posting.... ill be watching for it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Wow, I don't log on for a couple of days and lookit all the comments! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

He is rather shiny. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif I like contrast in my shading...although at times it can be a mega pain in the butt. Yesterday during C-mode, I was thinking how much gore the characters go through...particularly when a big HUcast or HUmar comes and splashes the poor little Force with a bunch of purple Claw blood. This must be a pre-battle pic. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif

This (http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ps/pso/art/pso01.jpg) was the picture I referenced, and just as AzureBlaze astutely put it, I inherited some of the flaws. Formostly, I tried mimicking the shading in the legs, which in the end essentially just kicked me in the rear anyway. Obviously Ash's suit is different from the one I picked for Solin, and I as I was drawing in my own style anyway I aimed to compensate for that by eliminating certain details and adding others of my own. (Suspendor pants? Um...how do they get into these suits anyway...? *grumbles*)

And yah, Batou, you're right about the arms. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif I wish I'd done something about that like a month or two ago when I wasn't working on coloring. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Ah well. His shoulders seem hunched up more than Ash's...ooo character contribution! Solin can be up tight at times.

Curiously, he does seem to have an eight-pack. The 'bonus' pair is below the navel, which apparently (after consulting Cyclopedia Anatomicae) is somewhat anatomically correct, musculaturely speaking, but should be considerably more subtle. That's a lot easier to fix than shortened arms though. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
