1. The, err, hmm...M.C. I suppose? Anywho, the dude that yells out stuff at you. He says, "UMA! U-M-A!" The heck's a UMA?

2. What's the name of ths song being played while you do the lessons in Training Mode in Lesson 2? It appears I have to unlock it...?

3. Don't you get that tingly feeling when you hear that siren that you kicked ass in the last song on Heavy, getting the AA rating, and then getting YOUR own ass kicked with MAX 300, going 1.5 times the normal pace, in reverse? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

4. I've got Spin the Disc unlocked today. Is Drop the Bomb worth it?

Added new title for the thread, per request by Richard.

UMA...I used to know this one... it's like...
"Unidentified something-something" and it's not really
a compliment...

Max300 isn't really that hard for me anymore...
especially on the home pad. I was almost able to
beat Maxx Unlimited on a home pad, but it was
pretty much dead/malfunctioning, so I would most
likely have passed it.

Another and probably faster way of getting Drop the
Bomb is by completing the Hardcore Oni course with
a controller. The course should have been unlocked
at the same time as Spin The Disc. I think that it is
good enough that you might as well get it. It is
one of the songs on the better half of PS2 DDRMAX USA.

------------------
On a side note, concerning DDRMAX2 USA, it kind of
pisses me off that Tsugaru's steps were mangled coming
out of the arcade version. If you know Tsugaru
in the arcade and DDRMAX2 USA, you'll know what I mean.

1. UMA stands for, "Unidentified Mysterious Animal" - said by the announcer in DDR MAX, and only in DDR MAX. Also a character genre in 3rd Mix (import) home version.

2. No idea, I've never played the DDR MAX domestic home version.

3. EXTRA STAGE!!! If it is anything like the arcade, it should be 1.5X, Reverse, no life gain.
(Meaning you start with a full bar, and any life depleted from missing arrows cannot be restored.)

4. DROP THE BOMB was on the original Dance Dance Revolution game on PSX without having to be unlocked. It's a 6-footer on Heavy, and a mediocre song at best. (IMO)

EDIT: Ignore #4, Ian-KunX explained it's a different version of DROP THE BOMB.

The Drop The Bomb in question is a remix, which unlocks under the following conditions:

Pass the Oni course it's in.
Play 1000 songs.

Drop the Bomb is one of my favorites, but I don't particularily care for the remix.

The least sanity-draining method of doing it is to get a turbo controller... It counts songs failed, so you can just tape down the appropriate button and leave it. That's how my boyfriend did it, anyways.

...I still find it amusing that on MAXUSA, you can unlock a song by -failing- a song...

Mixfortune

It's 500 songs, if I'm not mistaken. I may be wrong, it's been a while.
And yes, EXTRA STAGE is the same in the home version as it is in the arcade,
except without DARK (which might not have even been in DDRMAX, don't remember).

And Richard, is that a European mix or SM/DWI? O_o
I would assume it was an actual mix. You seem the type
to be capable of AA Max300 http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

4 greats though...hmm...seems more likely that it
is SM/DWI the more I look at it...

It's StepMania. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I don't have the stamina, money, or patience to play MAX 300 over and over, again and again at the arcade. So I doubt I'll ever get 4 Greats at the arcade. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

And yeah, I think Dark was a new feature added in DDR MAX2. Not sure though.

You know the part where the "gallops" alternate
between the type you would normally see (1/12 I think)
and the arrows that look the same color (1/32 I think)...

Well the home versions can only support 1/2, 1/4,
and 1/12 steps (red/blue/yellow, respectively).
So what do they do? Make the 1/32s doubles...

So now it's a "gallop" alternating with a double.
If that doesn't make sense, I can copy/paste a
screenshot from DWI of the part I'm talking about.

...

Those b***ards...

Richard
Oct 8, 2003, 04:40 AM
So wait, if I'm understanding you right, they turned the 1/32 notes into 1/8 notes? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Let me make sure, does picture A (arcade steps) turn into picture B (what I think your saying)...

Much obliged. Unidentified Mysterious Animal...har har har... Still it's not as funny when the announcer says, "You gave us...your ultimate dance! Thankyouverymuch! Buckets of tears...of joy...*whimpering*" HIII-Larious!

If it'll up yer spirits, I've finally moved up to Standard Mode...by controller. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif But every time I play a song under...what, 150 bpm? I kinda feel like I can take it on... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif'' I need a hard floor...shag carpeting isn't good for that damn dance pad. THOSE METAL ONES ARE 200 BUCKS! XP

IMHO, Silent Hill is the weirdest song I've had to get unlocked...darn Cutie Chaser kept making me get ONE good on Heavy...ugh...

Just make your own hard pad. It may not be as good as the metal ones, but it's a heck of a lot easier and cheaper.

Here's what I did:

1. Get the dimensions of your pad.
2. Go to Ace Hardware, get a piece of wood with the dimensions only a tad bit longer horizontally.
3. Tape the pad down to the wood, you can also use glue or whatever. Just make sure it's secure, and in the middle with some extra wood on the sides.
4. Put something heavy on the 4-corners of the extra wood. This is to ensure it doesn't move.

And you now have an almost-decent home pad. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

The only problem with mine is I got a VERY skinny piece of wood, so the pad still moves a tad bit. It's not a big deal, but the thicker you can get the wood would (LMAO, wood would...) probably be better.

Oops, by double step I meant L+R, heheh.
So in the first pic, the orange arrow followed by
the red arrow collapses into a single space.

Looks sort of like this:

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines. I saw a variation...

-The wood was more vertical than horizontal, and it was a bit thick (a bit on that in a bit).
-You used clear tape (industrial-strength duct-tape-like tape), and made it extend from a bit under the board to horizontally across the pad and under the board again.
-Use a staple gun to staple the tape onto the sides of the board.

Think that'd work?

Dance Dance Revolution EXTREME home version came out yesterday in Japan, here's some information about it...

Dancing characters are back, which have been missing since 5th Mix. There are 54 dancers total, and they seem very bright and shiny.
All MAX songs are there - MAX 300, MAXX UNLIMITED, The legend of MAX. There is also a NEW MAX song (!), more information about that later in this post.
All PARANOiA songs are there - 180, Dirty, Clean, Rebirth, EVOLUTION, ETERNAL, Survivor, Survivor MAX.
Only new (from DDREX) song missing from the arcade version is SENORITA by JENNY ROM. Reason unknown.
Certain Oni courses and Nonstop courses have been changed.
Synchronization has been fixed on certain songs that were off-beat.

Ok, now onto the new MAX song, which probably what everyone cares about...

Title: MAX. (period)
Artist: 2MB
BPM: 300-0-180-300-600 (!)

The song is a mixture of MAX 300 and PARANOiA 180. Starts off sounding like MAX 300 at 300 BPM, then pauses, then sounds like PARANOiA 180 at 180 BPM. Then back to MAX 300 speed and sound, then speeds up to somewhere around 600 (!) BPM at the end. The steps during the MAX 300 part are simular to MAX 300 steps, the steps during the PARANOiA 180 part are simular to PARANOiA 180 steps.

The background picture says, "Why do you need...?" The background video shows how they made the songs. Playing on keyboards, guitars, equalizers, stuff like that. When it changes into the PARANOiA part, it shows someone selecting the song on an old-school DDR machine. Nostalgic.

Here's a picture of it at the music select screen. If you look closely, you'll see the song has Oni (Challenge) steps, but no one knows how to access them yet:

http://www.angelfire.com/ult/pso0/images/MAX.jpg

Thanks to Aaron in Japan for the picture.

NOTE: I don't have this game yet, all the information and such I got from Aaron in Japan. Hopefully I'll have the .mp3 soon though.

EDIT: Resized the image so it doesn't ruin the formatting, and highlighted the Challenge step indicator in a black square.

the Japanese version. Cartoon Heroes, Sakura, here I

And the new MAX song...at least it wasn't "Max to the XXXimum"...
180 to 600, huh...sounds like a song meant for 1x Boost... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif

I take back what I said about, "The song has Oni (Challenge) steps, but no one knows how to access them yet."

The reason no one knows how to access them is because no one knows how to unlock the song yet. The only way anyone has gotten to play the song is through EXTRA STAGE, which is by default on Heavy. So once people figure out how to unlock the song, the Challenge steps will become available. There is suppose to be TONS of unlockables, no one has a complete list yet, so it probably takes quite a long time.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention you can now have 3 dancers on-screen at once. Two on the sides (1P and 2P), and one in the middle.

About the dancers on the screen-

It's like that in home DDRMAX2 USA, so it is most likely
also in the Japanese version of home DDRMAX2 as well.

But, hopefully home DDREX USA won't be full of
lic.songs like home DDRMAX2 USA was...

Heh, I played DDR MAX2 USA at a Best Buy store yesterday. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif It was hooked up to a big screen TV in front of the video game section. With an offical KONAMI pad securely taped down in front of it.

It was pretty fun, I found out you could get larger crowds of people at Best Buy than you can at the local arcade. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif The only problem was there wasn't much unlocked. Dammit, I wanted to play xenon. Ahh well, I AA'd The Shining Polaris as my final stage then got to play MAXX UNLIMITED as EXTRA STAGE. I failed half way through the jumps of hell at the end, though... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Also, I found out the "story" behind HEALING VISION...

HEALING VISION tells the story of a man who comes back to life after seeing an angel. If you happen to have DDR MAX USA at home, then play the song a couple times until you see a blue girl (angel) in the water. The song will end shortly after that and the heart beat will return.

Crazy stuff. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Yes, on Angelic Mix...

- The heart beat is normal at first. *beep, beep, beep*

- At about 52 seconds, the heart beat gets crazy. *beepbeep, beep, beepbeep*

- At about 65 seconds (1:05) the heart beat flatlines. (although it's hard to hear with the all clashing sounds.)

- At about 74 seconds (1:14), when the song pauses for a split moment, the heart beat flatlines again. *beeeeeeeeeep*

- And then the very last two steps is the heart beat returning. *beep, beep*

I am now a hermit.

For what appeared to be a week and a half, I was madly going at it with DDRMAX, playing songs and getting better with them (with the timing anyway...I was using the controller). Today, I did a good workout with the dance pad, and I got the jist of things going. I'm much better at things. Like, say, I got surprisingly better at Rhythm and Police since Saturday, and I nailed mostly everything.

Accolades, please! I have unlocked Drop the Bomb. All of the songs have been unlocked, and I've played 500 songs. Kill me, I'm going to show off at a Fry's tomorrow.

Yes, it was on difficult. To make it more "oni course" like, I increased the game difficulty to level 6. So about 4-5 missed arrows is enough to fail.

I failed at the 7th song, KAKUMEI. It was on Reverse-Dark, which completely took me by surprise.

The course overall isn't too stamina intensive. It starts of with three rhythm-fun songs; Radical Faith, VANITY ANGEL, and SP-TRIP MACHINE. All of these songs are cake, and not tiring at all. The next set of three are semi-fast, but not neccessarily tiring songs; TSUGARU, AFRONOVA, and PARANOiA KCET. The next song, KAKUMEI, isn't too difficult, although the Reverse-Dark adds challenge. Jump-happy HYSTERIA is next, another piece of cake song. The next set of three are my favorites, all rhythm steps, all from IIDX. They are; i feel ..., Burning Heat, and xenon. After that it ends with MAXX UNLIMITED, which is also on Reverse-Dark.

All-in-all, the course is above-average in terms of difficulty. MAXX UNLIMITED is the only real barrier here, but doing 11 songs before it only makes it worse. I think I could get up to it, but I doubt I'd pass it.

EDIT: The Midnight Blaze remix that plays during the Information screen owns.

Pwnage, thy name is Reenee.

After not playing the game for an entire week and then trying to get my rhythm back with the dance pad, I was struggling to put on a show. I kept missing steps that were so easy for me, and I really needed to get back my correct way of moving my center of mass.

Then some odd miracle happened: today, I came home from helping my mom clean offices. My brother was out, so his room was unoccupied, and I turned on the PS2 with DDRMAX. For some odd reason, I had the urge to do some songs on Heavy, as I was curious to how they were (Max 300 keeps freaking me out). After my poor thumbs went through a 15-minute beating, I decided to break out the dance pad and then I realized...

Holy shit, I can do songs on Standard.

I've only been on that damn pad for what feels like a week and there I am doing a great job with Celebrate, Midnite Blaze, My Generation (Fat Beat Mix), My Summer Love, hell, even my favorite song, true... (Trance Sunrise Mix) were hella enjoyable. The hardest songs I've done were Rhythm and Police (K.O.G G3 Mix) and Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) [both of them were on Light, by the by], and now I feel like showing off. I did a VERY LONG run today, clocking in of an hour of play with Game Mode (5 songs, mostly Standard-difficulty songs), and I didn't get tired until I actually had a bit loss of breath, and both of my feet were getting cramped from using my toes, not my entire foot, to step.

I've never felt so friggin' awesome with physical activities in my life. And it combines video games too.

Bless DDR. Now to kick ass at the arcades with DDR Extreme!

Or, the Fry's Electronics that's 15 minutes away... o.o;;

Gogogogogo. Heh.

I have to agree, though. DDR is without a doubt the most strenuous activity I've ever participated in. I usually don't care for sports or athletic activities, yet I love nothing more than playing DDR. It's quite bizarre how addictive it is. The thought of hitting 500+ steps within a minute-forty seconds certainly doesn't -seem- like fun... but it is!

DDR is the ultimate paradox. It combines nearly endless challenge with enjoyable gameplay. It's also quite rewarding. You get a workout, -and- get to show-off your new found talent.

EDIT: GG Typo.

Shit, I thought you were kidding. DDR Ultramix for XBox... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif With friggin' Live support and score rankings to boot. Though I did see some familiar songs... (Drop the Bomb S.F. Mix, Sana Morette Ne Ente, Look to the Sky...)

Okay, so I decided to make an ass of myself at Fry's today. Not only would I have to deal with the official Konami pad (it had a different texture), but I also had to deal with unknown songs in DDRMAX 2.

I saw some favorites (AM-3P, Spin the Disc, Kind Lady), doing them in Standard, of course. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif Then I did some 4-foot, 5-foot songs on Light, and after I played through them once, I got the hang of it and did two of the new songs on Standard, which were Love at First Sight by Kylie Minogue, and Days Go By by Dirty Vegas (I think it was a slight remix, but the volume wasn't all the way up). I nailed an A on both on my first try.

I completely messed up at the end by choosing Silent Hill as my last song. Needless to say, I'm not ready for so many consecutive 1/8th beats with that thing on Standard...yet.

It is kind of funny when you do, say, True... (Trance Sunrise)
on Heavy and get applause from the gathering crowd. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

People were taking pictures and everything O_o it
was most unusual...especially since for some unknown
reason I messed up that time around and got a low A.

The MAX. (period) thing about it being the "end" is a terrible, terrible rumor. In fact, the next DDR mix (name unknown) has already been announced, as well as IIDX 10th style and GF&dm 10th&9th mix.

You can find information about that here:

http://www.zdnet.co.jp/games/gsnews/0310/18/news02.html

Here's a little BREAK DOWN! (pun intended) of the last sentence...

"Although it is DDR which once first appearance for about five years ago, a restorative day is believed and it will surely continue playing all together."

To top it off, if you've ever played on an EXTREME machine, the decals clearly state, in English, "We're starting all over!" The key words being, "starting over." You can't start and end something at the same time.

The truth of the matter is, DDR is still big in Japan. That's why they have these live events and such, to promote new games and music. After the release of the Be For U (a band specifically formed together for DDR in 2001) album this November, and IIDX 10th style sometime first quarter of 2004, you'll probably begin to hear more about the next DDR mix.

And I'm in no hurry, I haven't even passed ROAD OF TaQ Doubles, yet!

I believe one of the admins actually bought a DDR Extreme machine for private use, but it ended up in a special Namco-licensed arcade in Europe. This guy is extremely nice from what I see, and everyone is trying to pitch in their cash/pounds to revitalize the machine. Steps were cracked, the internal hardware took a serious beating, and, well...just something pointless, like any crime (except stealing... X3 ).

Mixfortune
Oct 28, 2003, 03:10 PM
Well, there already is an unofficial "9th Mix" out
there, but all it is was someone hacking the earlier
mixes into a single machine.

What we might want to do is make a different thread,
as this seems to have moved away from the initial topic
into MAX. (period) and the supposed "end of DDR".

To me it seems that the phrase "We're starting all over"
just means that while it may take more time to come
out with more mixes than usual, it also means that
something new and innovative in on the horizon.

That would account for why it would take longer than
usual to announce the mixes after Extreme.

I just got back from playing DDR...I've been playing for almost 2 weeks and I'm playing most of the songs on Heavy. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif But seriously, guys, I have this heinus foot cramp and it won't come out...I had it when I got off the last song, when I wathced some guys play SC2, when I walked to my car, when I drove home, and right now...the lump on the inner part of my foot is huge...and it hurt to uncurl my toes.

Anyone ever experience this annoyance?

Mixfortune

Oh, yeah. I hate it when I get those foot cramps where
it hurts to uncurl your toes, it's usually just best
to relax it, but you still feel the pain http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif.

Usually doesn't happen to me while I DDR, just whenever
it feels like doing it. What happens to me when I DDR
in the arcade for hours and hours is that it feels
like I pull a muscle in my leg. Happened in the middle
of songs, too, so I mess up the combo for that song
and everything :|

Haha, once someone I knew had to go to the bathroom
really bad while they were on the arcade DDR, so they
jumped off in the middle off a song and ran to the restroom. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

It's Cartoon Heroes (Speedy Mix) by Barbie Young.
It might just be a completely different song by the same name.
Of course, a lot of DDR songs are altered to fit into a easily set BPM.

We are what we're supposed to be
Illusions of your fantasy
All dots and lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do

We are the color symphony
We do the things you want to see
Frame by frame, to the extreme

Our friends are so unreasonable
They do the unpredictable
All dots and lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do

It's all an orchestra of strings
Doing unbelievable things
Frame by frame, to the extreme
One by one we're making it fun

We are the cartoon heroes, oh
We are the ones who are gonna last forever
We came out of a crazy mind, oh
And walked out on a piece of paper and...

Here comes Spiderman, arachnophobian
Welcome to the toon town party
Here comes Superman, from never neverland
Welcome to the toon town party
There's still more to come
And everyone will be
Welcomed at the toon (toon) town (town) party

Nope, its definately a remake of AQUA! The song was originally from their 2000 release of Aquarius, their second and last album.

I have the original song right here (its the music video mix, with the FX added to the song to fit the mood of the video. )

http://lucky-s-designs.com/Aqua.wma

Its not the actual video, just the song.
If anyone wants the whole music video uploaded, I'll gladly do that, too!

EDIT: Does anyone have a version of that song I can download (Barbie Young - Cartoon Heroes)? I really want to hear it!

I hate Deep in You and Share My Love. Share My Love has this irritating series of steps right at the begining that I can't pivot to correctly.

To see what I mean, go here: http://ddruk.com/chartgen.php

In the pull-down menu, choose 6th Mix -Max-.

In that last page, choose Share My Love, then Single, then ANOTHER. Click on Next and the chart will show up. If you look at the chart in the third column and the second box, you'll see that mess of of steps. For some reason, though, I can nail that same set right at the end.

Also, while I don't have time to find the chart for Deep In You (Single, Standard Mode), there's this portion that goes all the way to the middle where you step forward and step on the right/left and down arrows in a certain way, or you step back and step on the right/left and up arrows in that same way. Ugh.

I know it's quite unorthodox of me to tell some info about a XBox game, but this is good ol' DDR...

-A lot of the songs are just recycled. There aren't a lot of new ones. Seriously, do you want to hear Secret Rendezvous again? At least Silent Hill appears to be absent... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif'' Here's a list: http://www.konamihwi.com/ddr_ultramix/songs.html

-For some odd reason, Konami is still showing off Freeze Arrows like it's some revolutionary feature...

-A few versus modes have been added. There's a versus option that limits how many steps you can miss.

-The 3/4-player modes forbid differing difficulties. All players must play on the same difficulty (one of them is gonna have to submit to Little... -_-;;)

-Also, the arrows appearing in 3/4-player modes are obnoxiously small. Get a big TV. You might want to also boost the scroll speed (not Boost).

-Converters are being made to use your current dance pad for PS/PS2 DDR games.

-Yes, the XBox Live feature is real. You can just find a quick match at random, or one by set preferences.

The song list is definitely less than impressive. Some of those songs were on both DDRMAX and DDRMAX2, and now return again. Stupid. Unless one of those 9 unlockable songs are a 10-footer, this is also going to be the easiest US version since KONAMIX.

Mixfortune
Nov 11, 2003, 03:03 AM
The ones that get me are:

.59
DIVE
Infinite Prayer
CSFILSM
Sweet Sweet Love Magic

They should have just had those in DDRMAX2 USA...
But... 42 songs? That's low... but supposedly they were going to make it so you could "download future songs" or something like that.

It says in the site that you can download additional songs if you have X-Box live.. which I fortunately do. I'm gonna have to get me some adapter converters for my X-Box so I can use my dance pads for the system then!

Public Debut

Due to many holdbacks from my friend (plumbing breaks and water going through the walls, and, just today, a relative of his passed away), I was forced to go solo at DDR.

I arrive at the Mulligan Family Fun Center (DDR Freak info: http://www.ddrfreak.com/locations/locations.php?action=displayLocation&locationID=335), and notice not only the place is packed (people-wise), but so were the games. I walked around, noticing what may be a beatmania 4th Mix machine (it was weird...it had 5 pads, one in the center and four on its corners). I finally sought out the DDR Extreme machine.

Let me try to put everything down:

There were these wild Asian dudes in their teens, and, uh, they're just...odd. Apparently they like to mess around, so inbetween songs, they try to piss off their friends by double-tapping the down arrow (for you un-DDR-ers, this increases the difficulty). Some pubescent fool (not with the gaggle that I saw) tried to pull it on me, and I yelled at him:

GET OFF THE FRIGGIN' STAGE!

Luckily, he did go away. ^.^

Couples (in terms of players, mind you) were taking turns at 3 songs apiece (some broke that rule when they did Nonstop Mode, but it was fine). I partnered up with this awesome tall guy who was doing Heavy Mode, and he was, what, 250 or so pounds? I was on Standard duty.

First things first: since I'm so accustomed to the official Konami pad, it was a bitch doing the songs. For one thing, I kept stepping on the bolts that stuck out. Next, the entire arcade was loud, making things a near-futile effort to try and listen to the song. You can't hear the more quieter stuff in songs.

Anywho...what songs did I do? Rhythm and Police, on Standard (man, it felt good doing that song), Captain Jack--ah, wait, I only saw that one being played. Paranoia KCET (Clean Mix), which was decent. Kind Lady (my buddy freaked out since he didn't know it), think ya better D (I thought it was a good song, okay? I meant to do it on Heavy, but somehow I was rushed), Afronova (twice, and it's a bitch), Dynamite Rave (I think it was some quick mix), true... (Morning Sunrise Mix), Burning Heat! (3rd Options Mix), MAX 300 on Light (duh), and I guess that's it.

Now, I waited for a long time for my next turn, and since the machine's options were made it into Free Play, and running in an Event Mode-type fashion (you can fail the song, but it won't stop till it ends; your turn really ends when you fail), and nobody likes girly songs. Damn them, I wanted to do Candy! It's fast... ;_;

Apparently I'm a good player. One lady kept using her right foot with Light songs. -_-;; Lesbian teens *giggle* kept facing forward. Whenever 8th note streams came up, I was turning my body, and nobody else did, and I hit the arrows better too. I kept getting too many Greats, though... >.< I can't really hear the song.

Other than that, I got a workout. I really didn't get a chance to do songs that I'm used to. I also got drained fast as, like I said, didn't know many of the songs played, and some were fast.

^.^

Edit: And can someone explain THIS: http://www.konamityo.com/bemani/ddrgb/ddrgb.html

I find it doesn't support my weight very well.
*tosses broken peripherial in trash*

Seriously though, hope you continue in the arcade.
I do better in the arcade now than I do on the home versions, since the pads are larger and more responsive in the arcade. I learned on the home pads, but they just don't work as well as they used to.

Songs noted with an asterisk ARE WORLD PREMIERES (meaning, newcomers to DDR).

60 dancing characters are to be included, with a character select interface to boot. Beginner Mode returns, assisted by Diet (a.k.a. Workout) Mode.

This is for PS2, and it'll sell for the American equivilent of $40 in Japan. To be released December 11th, 2003.

As a side note, I wanted to ask the DDR nuts here: what's the chance we can get DDR Extreme for U.S. release? That's been out for way too long, and I'm sure I heard right when I heard almost all of the songs were to be ported (only about 3 songs tops would be removed). It'd be GREAT, no, PERFECT, hold it, MARVELOUS! ^.^;;

Oh my goodness, I know it's a great novelty song, but SILENT HILL!? o.O;;

A direct port? Not very likely. I'm sure there will be a US version of EXTREME, but it'll probably be entirely different from the Japan versions... DDRMAX and DDRMAX2 USA are perfect examples.

And when I say entirely different, I mean a lot worse.

4 remixes of MAX. (period), anyone?

But yeah, I just hope they get some of the good songs off Extreme...and put something in that's actually somewhat of a challenge for once. I sort of hate having to resort to edits to make it challenging...

Most likely. I got it from the DDR Extreme thread at Aaron in Japan. It was an early release, but rather complete (as noted by the horrid MAX. banner). Then again, I heard there was something up with the application, making PERFECTs pass as MARVELOUS steps...it was weird...

Still, it's...Max. (period).

Edit: then again, there's a bunch of jumps to do.

'Nother Edit: Go look at the stepchart at ddruk.com. Did anyone realize the foot ratings for (period)?

Beginner: 3 foot (like Maxx Unlimited)
Basic: 9 foot (I'm not kidding)
Trick: 9 foot (Not kidding again)
Maniac: Flashing 10 Foot
Challenge/Oni/SManiac: 10 Foot (easier than Maniac)

Jumps count as +2 towards the combo, but only +1 towards graded steps. That's why there's a higher combo (621) than there is perfects (573), and MAX. (period) has tons of air.

Flashing 10-footer... aren't all 10-footers like that? I dunno, MAX. (period) -is- hard, but I still think PARANOIA survivor MAX (Challenge) is harder.

MAX. (period) = 573 steps, 621 combo. Hard to read ending.
PARANOIA survivor MAX = 613, 655 combo. Pivoting from hell ending.

By the way, was that picture done by Jin To Fa2?

Anyway, MAX. (period) sounds like fun. I'm gonna go play it on StepMania... see what score I can come up with.

The flashing and non flashing 10 footers might refer to the various levels of 10 steps. Namely, 10-A, 10-B, etc...

EDIT- And Bemaniruler's V is harder the Max(period), but beatable nonetheless. Foy, I'm sure you heard of him, loaded up a version of Bemaniruler's V on a DDREX machine nearby. I did quite decently, and was sure to set it on Beginner, just for the nonfail feature.

Second EDIT- Some pic from DWI. I have quite a few AAAs, but it would take too much space here. Some of the ones I'm posting right now are not in DDR, but you might know some.

I'm kicking myself in the pants right now.

On DDRMAX2 (PS2), I was playing Do It Right on Standard (not the 80's Remix that was a Challenge song).

After I had finished the song, and saw the score screen, I fell to my knees...

I had 1 Great. ONE. LOUSY. GREAT.

I WAS SO FRIGGIN' CLOSE TO MY FIRST AAA EVER! *bawls*

Mix, that last screenshot is odd. First, how did the final score become 2 points less than your original score? And how did you AA whatever that was when you had several BOOs and ALMOSTs?

An AA only requires 93% perfects. Regardless of greats, goods, boos or misses; if 93% of the total steps were perfects, it's an AA. Looking at the scores on that picture, I'd say he had around 93-94% perfects. I don't know what song that is, though. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_redface.gif

That's...new. Well, I always that the game would limit the amount of GOOD, ALMOST, or BOO steps you got... Guess I need to aim higher, ne?

I'm gonna go be showy with DDRMAX2 at a Fry's tomorrow. I need to know how to properly play on a hard floor with socks. I'm bringing my Memory Card with me X3 so I can do the Boogie Down NST, and other songs that'd freak out the employees because none of the numbnuts over there keep a memory card in the PS2. Then again, if someone was so daring, they can run off with the PS2, with game inside.

Me and my lousy Heavy 7-footer skills. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif X3

Fry's Person: "Hey, I know you're pretty good [seeing as though I'm not quite confident pulling off an 8-footer on a soft pad that isn't held down], but you've been playing for too long now. Though you got an audience going..."
Me: Okay, okay. Can I just do one more song?
Fry's Person: "Okay, just one more."

...and to Fry's I went.

I never could keep one single crowd going. I'd get about 5 people than come and go about every song I play. The most I got was 7, and I estimate about 35 people watch me play in total.

People were just wowed at Paranoia KCET Clean Mix. I did miss a few times, but somehow I got steps that were hard for me and I missed some that were easy. >.>

NOBODY saw me do Maxx Unlimited Light. *cries*

---

I thought I would be scolded for hogging up the game for a long time, but I wasn't. In fact, none of the employees even cared I brought my memory card along (everything was unlocked, so I felt right at home).

Amazingly, I saw this, what, 10-11 year old Japanese girl try to do End of the Century on Standard. Even though she failed (thank goodness I left Event Mode on last night), she knew what she was doing. Though she got 10 people watching... -_-;;

Richard

Girls always get bigger crowds because... well, they're girls. XD

Although I have noticed an increase in the female DDR population. Most of them are Light/Standard players, but there's some pretty good Heavy (the difficulty, not their weight) players, too.

I haven't played in about a week... if I can pull my ass away from the computer, I might go play today.

*Someone's* been bored...

Bah...

I was trying to warm up with DDR today, and it looks like I did one too many jumps because the vibrations provoked a floppy disk to knock over a half-full liter bottle of water onto my dance pad. -_-

The floor got hit too, making the underside get wet.

I'm thinking the top area wouldn't affect the pad, but I'm really worried about the underside. If it does do something, my Select, X, and Left buttons are wrecked. After I dried things up (the pad still felt slightly moist and a bit cold), I tried all of the buttons, and they seem to work fine. I hope it doesn't mess up in an extensive session.

This is the official Konami pad, by the by.

I finally got to play DDR again for the first time in several months. I'm a Light player, but it's still fun to get up and just mess around. My jaw just kind of...drops when I see what you people are capable of on Standard and Heavy. *shakes head* I can manage maybe...three songs in Standard Mode.

*sigh* I need to replace my crappy ass DDR pads for some decent ones. I might get back into it if I can do that.

You people suck. >3 Only things I've ever AAAed on DWI was all three difficulties of Do It All Night and Dam Dariram on Light.

I got my first ever AA on Extreme the other day. Dam Dariram, of course. Full combo. Something like 18 greats. This is not a surprise, as back in the day("The day" being 3rd K2), I rarely -didn't- SS it, and if I did not SS it, it was still an S.

I think the max-style grading is BS. AA without a full combo? Yeah, whatever. I still like 3rd best- E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS. Very specific. Failed, horrible, bad, ok, good, full combo, full combo high perfects, all perfects.

The ideal grading system would be E-D-C-B-A-AA-S-SS-SSS. Fail, horrible, bad, ok, good, current AA, high perfects but not full combo, full combo, full combo high perfects, all perfects.

I'm still out of practice. I got a C on bloody Silent Hill Heavy.
1998 Standard is a Standard song the way Dancing Pompokolin Trick is a Trick song. It's NOT. Sorry. Just... No. LOL.

Beginner mode must die. I watched a little girl almost fail a song because she was following the dancer... Ugh, back to the centre? Eww. n00bness.

WHY DOES NOBODY EVER PLAY NORI NORI NORI BUT ME?! I know the Para Para routine to that song, damn it. I wanna do it in public and make a fool of myself. :3

Nobody bloody plays Double, either. Though, it's a great way to not have people hop on the pad with you and then pick two of your three songs, both of which are ones you can't stand and/or can't pass. No, I will not play Mahou no Tobira with you. Please, please, -please- fall off the pad, break your ankle, and DIE. >_<

Yeah. So. How 'bout them freeze arrows? Them's a bitch, huh? </random> (No, not really. Freeze Arrows = t3h fun)

Hmm, I didn't even notice that thing about the total score being 2 points less. No idea why it did that.

Whenever I go to Fry's (for a different reason) and I play DDR, it's set up near the far back wall, so it's not like I can really get too much of a crowd over 2 or 3 people. Illusionz (an arcade building akin to Gameworks) is usually where I can build more of a crowd on the right days. The flat pads at the Fry's I go to always seem to have massive wrinkles in them before they are taped down...yay...

This one time I did Doubles at Illusionz, using time cards to load up on credits between songs >_>. Doubles are definitely easier with a little bit of Crossover experience underneath your belt.

As far as home pads go, I generally lean towards the Ignitions. If they finally do die, we just get a $20 dollar flat one and put it inside the Ignition zipper casing, on top of the black foam. A cheap extension on the pad's life, to be sure, but it lasts longer than a regular $20 pad without having to buy another Ignition.

Richard
Nov 24, 2003, 07:09 PM
Doubles are so much more fun. The step patterns, the movements, everything.

Watching someone go crazy on two pads >>>>> Watching someone go crazy on one pad

I sometimes play at an amusement park nearby called Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom, they have the machine right at the entrance of the arcade (you have to go through the arcade to get to into the park). Over the summer, you could draw in the largest crowds (20+) playing Doubles. Good times.

I need better ways to warm up since the cold winter days are upon us. How can one stimulate the body to become the dancing machine it can be? o.o;;

Doubles would be something neat to do...problem is, the damn game doesn't teach you how. Anyone mind a link or some tips on how to do it?

You don't play much Heavy do you?

There's alot more people that don't play Heavy than I thought. I rushed myself to get to at least 7 steps in the first 2 weeks. Now I get all screwed on the 8 and 9 steps. I played at work today for about 2 hours, in carpenter's boots, on a Konami pad...I think I may have killed it. I beleive that last thing I unlocked today was Silent Night or whatever the shit it's called, the Challenge steps. Yeah, lotsa fun. I'm getting Ultramix from my girlfriend for Xmas. Not a problem if your local arcade has on Joint Play Premium, or if it's 25cents for Single, 50cents for Double.

... there are guides, but they aren't all that helpful.

http://www.ddrfreak.com/library/playing-double.php

That might give you a basic idea, but I think the best way to learn is by watching other people do it. It's a lot easier to visually see how someone is doing something than it is to read a bunch of text and try to figure out what the hell they're talking about. >_<

I started playing Doubles after I seen some guy in Palm Springs playing Doubles. After watching him, I knew -how- to do crab walks, crossovers and such. The only problem was practicing it myself. XD

I went to the arcade today to play DDREX and the damn machine kept freezing...The guy gave us free credits because of it, but there's only so many times I can start up Healing Vision and watch it stop mid-step.

On the other hand, I've moved up to Standard Mode for most songs. Yay me!

Heh. I think starhealer can be my rival! ^.^

polished, although I'm quite lame for saying this, but I play some minor Heavy songs at the moment (Keep On Liftin', Try 2 Luv U, more deep ver 2.1, Bad Routine, Forever Sunshine). I did, however, try some 7-footers: Tomorrow Perfume (which, I must say, I didn't do very well for the first 15 seconds, but I hit every step from there), Dream a Dream (stupid 1/8th beats...), DIVE more deep and deeper (damn that song!), and others I can't quite remember, like Spin the Disc, Kind Lady, The Shining Polaris...

HOWEVER...

I have been doing Challenge songs to compensate for it. These include AM-3P AM EAST MIX, Do It Right 80's Electro Mix, Kind Lady interlude (which is a favorite of mine), and...*sigh...SUPER STAR (FROM NONSTOP MEGAMIX).

So http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif. The Challenge songs aren't overly complicated, but they have some kick-ass swarms that help me out.

No, I'm not talking about that. This particular machine would freeze randomly for about ten seconds, then speed through the song to catch up, leaving us staring dumbly at it and grumbling. It just happened to do that to me twice during Healing Vision (Angelic Remix) because that's my favourite song and I play it a helluva lot when I get the chance.

It also froze on me during Rythym and Police and my friends during Candy and Love Shine.

So I did a marathon today at a better spot than that Mulligan Family Fun Center, which was at the Torrance Del Amo Aladdin's Castle arcade. It's a moderately sized place.

It must be a crowd-gathering place. Right at the entrance is the DDR Extreme machine (and behind it is a DDRMAX2 machine).

I had MUCH better footing, and tried out lots of different songs: Graduation, Love *Heart* Shine, which is kicking my ass on Standard at the end of that devious Nonstop course, um, We Will Rock You, Dam Dariam [fun!], Cartoon Heroes [Light... -_-;;], Speed Over Beethoven, Candy heart, Dive (more deep & deeper) Kakumei, Long Train Runnin', Let's Groove, true... ~trance sunrise~, My Summer Love, Butterfly, CSFIL (Speed), Drop the Bomb (System S.F.), Burning Heat!, Healing Vision (Angelic), Groove, Midnite Blaze, PARANOiA KCET, feeling of love, Abyss, V, and Maxx Unlimited.

AM-3P kicked my ass. I just wasn't warmed up for it. And Paranoia Survior on Light...WOW, it's fast. Damn those sudden slowdowns!

I'm curious about something: I stuck to 1.5x most of the time, but I keep getting too many Greats! What's up with the the timing of the steps? It's totally unlike DDRMAX/DDRMAX2 for PS2... *bawls* I had horrid results, but at least I managed to hit the steps...

All in all, I was able to hog the machine for a long time. There was that coin-line thing going, but only about 3 people did it. Oh, and I did almost every song on Standard.

Erm, we (shattered another friend and me) bought a copy of 7th mix for PS2 and another pad for it.

Well, we unlocked everything already, none of the good songs are on this mix. I almost had a boregasm when I saw the final song list. Bleh, there's no Healing Vision, or Drop Out, or anything crazy. It makes me sad to be an American. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

The arcade versions have a more strict perfect window than the home versions. The arcade perfect window is around 30ms, home versions are around 35ms.

Drop Out is on KONAMIX, both Healing Visions are on MAX.

MAX2 at least has SO DEEP, xenon and MAXX UNLIMITED. Those are the "craziest" songs you'll find in a US version right now.

That's the old Healing Vision. Hah, XBox got shafted there. Maybe there's the chance Healing Vision Angelic Mix can appear in a songpack, but that would mean you'd have to pay for it.

Oro? http://gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/data/37940.html

That's the second place I saw DDREX for a U.S. release-WAIT!

Gamespot has it too! http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/dancedancerevolutionextreme/index.html

Dang...it just might be happening. The DDREX Gamespot forums have nothing, except one user saying it'll arrive Q1 2004.

And if there's any Bemani fans out there, Gamespot has listings for Beatmania II DX (3rd, 5th: New, and 6th...three seperate PS2 games there).

If you go to heavy, you'd stop saying that. I love the angelic mix though. Unfortunately, the steps are so crazy that I can't beat it. Can't stop fallin in love Speed mix, is really fun too. It makes you feel cool when you're doing that and you gots a crowd around you.

To Richard:

Dude, why don't you play with a pad? The controller makes the game waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy. I got a friggin B on "Afronova" Heavy. I can't even pass that song on my feet.

I played again today. Only two games, though. Lessee...

First game:

Love <3 Shine, Standard - Fun. Did good.
Daikenkai, Light - Shoulda done it on Standard. Fun, though, because I didn't tax myself.
Sakura, Oni - Ack. Failed at the first gallops. >_<;;; Was not prepared.

Second game:
o/` Dakishimete hold on me...
I did a non-stop course for once. Eurobeat, of course. XD
Hold On Me: Fun. Easy. First song and last game I didn't get the chance to kill my stamina.
Nori Nori Nori: I can do this song on Light and Standard in my sleep, dude. I know the para para, for crying out loud. Still not tired.
Hyper Eurobeat: The song which is neither hyper nor Eurobeat. Doing fine. Getting a little worn.
Last Message: Still doing ok. Almost failed because I've played it ONCE, on the same nonstop course, a couple of weeks after Extreme came to an arcade near where I lived at the time... This was a good 9, 10 months ago. Haven't even played it on DWI... So the 8th steps to freeze arrows kind of threw me. I passed, though. B. Yay.

What? I've been playing at the arcade since 4thMix Plus. I started in the summer of 2001.

I admit, I do play at home with my hands a lot. But that's only because 1.) It's good practice to learn the steps to a song and 2.) Softpads suck, my PA (Perfect Attack) drops 50% as compared to the arcade and 3.) I can't go to the arcade everyday, so I get in my "fix" of DDR through StepMania.

Anyway, I've posted several times about my "DDR arcade accomplishments of the day", so I don't know where you got off thinking I only play with my hands. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

We never said that you can't play DDR...we said that you can't get a full combo, all perfects on MAxx Unlimited on Heavy. It's humanly impossible. If you could, you'd be the world champion, plain and simple. That's all there is to it.

*gasp* DDR! I... love... you... Renee...

I have a question to pop(for everyone)... do you play much BESIDES the MAXs and PARANOiAs etc? How many of you actually like to play a song that nobody ever plays, that you might even like? Here's how a typical DDR 2 gamer goes at our arcade.

1. BURNING HEAT! 3 option mix- Heavy
2. DROP OUT - Heavy
3. Kakumei - Heavy
4. Freckles - Heavy (Oh, btw, I saw a guy do the first 3 in this list then say "I can't do it" to freckles but then agree to do MAXX UNLIMITED. WTF? Is Freckles a 9 footer disguised as a 7 or what.)

1. MAX300- Standard
2. SO DEEP (perfect sphere remix) - Heavy
3. and they usually are so tired they fail by this...MAXX UNLIMITED - Standard

While my games are usually Orion.78 (both mixes), Exotic Ethnic, MATSURI JAPAN, TSUGARU, (insert anything else revenge here), Silent Hill, Hysteria, anything else you never see anyone there play. Do you ever feel that way? Like you are the only person who plays most of the songs?

Whatever man, you're full of doodoo. MAXX unlimited on heavy is impossible to get a full perfect combo on Heavy. The song is like 400 BMP. Otherwise you're playing on Heavy little step which is easier than MAxx unlimited on light. I still think your're full of it. :

I hope it wasn't the guy on the right pad. He's bar raping.

I AA'ed The Shining Polaris on Heavy...1.5x Solo...

...on a home pad. DOUGH!

I just realized my stamina has vastly improved. I'm not so tired from hard songs like PARANOiA KCET ~clean mix~ (Trick), and Kind Lady (interlude) (Oni). Of course, Xenon on Trick still is hard... -_-;; Afronova on Trick actually kicked my ass just some time ago: I couldn't hit the jumps (then again, I wasn't warmed up...and that takes me awhile), and I really need help with those 1/8th beats. Man, I don't even want to think about the end of that one on Heavy (DO-DO-DO-DO-DO-DO-DO!).

It appears I'll be needing a better pad soon. I really do want a metal one, but I hear there's a soft pad with a "foam insert" with raised steps, and it's not supposed to go moving around the floor, no matter what kind it is (carpet or hard). Is this one fine to use because I really don't want to fall onto the nearby desk I'm around while doing Hysteria 2001 (yes, on Oni).

Don't you just prefer to say Maniac instead of Heavy? X3

Blathering:

Fact: Konami's Magic Number is 573.

Fact: FC'ing MAX 300, MAX. (period), or The Legend of MAXX registers a 573 combo (MAXX UNLIMITED is 555 -_-)

Fact: A stands for Agony

Fact: The song Dance Dance Revolution contains steps from earlier popular songs (Brilliant 2 U (Orchestral), Dead End, Dynamite Rave, Afronova, AM-3P, Celebrate Nite, and B4U); only on Oni mode

Fact: The Freeze Arrow part in LoM Maniac goes at 666 BPM; coincidently, you hear the voice say, "FEAR!"

Fact: You can AA MAXX UNLIMITED with a FC and 10 misses: just don't hold your foot down for the freeze arrows, stupid.

Fact: PARANOiA 180 steps are in MAX. (period)

Fact: The infamous MAXX UNLIMITED hold-freeze at the stop ends at a 1/16th beat.

Fact: Burning Heat! has 1/12ths; no 8ths or 16ths

Fact: Fiction.

Actually, MAXX UNLIMITED full-combo is 600. But there is 555 graded steps, the same as MAX 300.

And MAX. (period) full-combo is 621. But there is 573 graded steps.

MAX 300 - 555 steps; 573 combo
MAXX UNLIMITED - 555 steps; 600 combo
The legend of MAX - 500 steps; 573 combo
MAX. (period) - 573 steps; 621 combo

Remember, jumps count as +2 towards combo, +1 towards graded steps.

It's a really good video game programming school that's becoming more and more popular as of late. It's in Redmond, also, which just happened to be where I lived.

So yeah, they might do slightly better in the "choosing games for a tournament" field http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Last tournaments they had were a fighting game tournament where the contestants write down what game they wanted, and a Mario kart Double Dash tourney that was done before it was actually released. I hadn't actually gone to any of those tournaments yet, though.

Man, I hate End of the Century on Trick. It's almost like doing PARANOiA KCET ~clean~ on Maniac. My left foot can't take it.

Okay, I have a problem. It's with PARANOiA KCET.

Go here to see a stepchart first: http://www.ddrfreak.com/stepcharts/stepchart.php?song=parakcet&mode=Single&difficulty=Trick&code=Normal&Submit=Submit

Now, the column we're focusing on is the 2nd from the right (I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what the measure is here), the one with the 3 consecutive 1/8th steps that go left, right, and down. Then we have two jumps, 3 lone 1/4th arrows, and two more jumps. This is the trouble spot, the one that goes up-left-up, left-down-left, down-right-down, and right-up-right.

For the up-left-up, I pivot in a northwest face. For the left-down-left, I pivot facing northeast, with my left foot on the left arrow, and my right on the down arrow. When the down-right-down comes up, I can't hit it. I tried a brief hop, but I can't nail it.

On a personal note, I'll be able to visit that Best Buy I was talking about tomorrow. Thank goodness my dentist appointment was cancelled...by the dentist, not me. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Man, I better get some crowds going.

I seen the thread you were talking about at DDR Freak, you seem to be confused. All my StepMania high scores are done with my fingers, with the keyboard, not actually by foot. There is no way I would ever AA MAX. (period) using an actual dance pad, let alone get one great on it.

I knew playing with four people at once with Ultramix was bad:

I just got it yesterday.. my first impression was that it's pretty cool, nice sharp graphics and good music etc.. Then I tried to play 4 player... UGH. It's like playing on stepmania using Mini and Hidden mods.. The combo counter and step rating "perfect" etc are on top of the arrows! How little thought was put into that?

the graphics are much sharper, the music is kind of lacking, and it really isn't that bad to play with 4 people at the same time. i play with 3 other people online (you see their arrows...it's just like 4-p offline) and it isn't hard at all. i'll admit the placement of the perfects is a little too high, but wherever it goes it'll be on top of the arrows

Now to bannerize! Watch them become shiny soon...

Oh, and can someone tell me how many pixels apart the arrows are? Um...kinda...tough...to tell...graphical representation, please?

If anybody was curious, here's a typical run for me on DDRMAX2 US PS2:

A Little Bit of Ecstasy
Busy Child
CONGA FEELING
D2R
Days Go By (Can be done on Maniac if you wish)
DREAM A DREAM (Maniac)
Get Down Tonight
i feel...
IN THE NAVY '99 (XXL Disaster Remix)
Keep On Liftin' (Maniac-Trick is too boring)
LET'S GROOVE
LONG TRAIN RUNNIN'
Love At First Sight (Maniac-ed)
LOVIN' YOU (ROB SEARLE CLUBE MIX)
Take Me Away (into the night) (radio vocal)
THE WHISTLE SONG (Blow My Whistle Baby)
TSUGARU
AM-3P
CELEBRATE NITE
Do It Right
Groove
I Was The One
Kind Lady
Silent Hill
Spin the disc
SUPER STAR (Maniac; failed)
THE SHINING POLARIS (Maniac; Missed twice >.< )
Bad Routine
Burning Heat! (3 Option Mix)
CAN'T STOP FALLIN' IN LOVE
DIVE (more deep & deeper style)
Don't Stop! (AMD 2nd Mix) (Maniac)
feeling of love
Forever Sunshine (Maniac)
I Need You (Maniac)
more deep (ver.2.1)
PARANOiA KCET (clean mix)
Radical Faith
SP-TRIP MACHINE (JUNGLE MIX)
think ya better D (Maniac; C)
Tomorrow Perfume
Try 2 Luv. U (Maniac; Trick steps are boring)
xenon (Got a C...I am horrible at this song)

Do It Right (80's Electro Mix) (Got a C)
Kind Lady (interlude)
Silent Hill (3rd Christmas Mix)

Kakumei
MAXX UNLIMITED (Basic)

They're all on Trick, unless otherwise noted. Yup, that's 2.5 hours of play there by foot. X3 I must always end on MAXX UNLIMITED... XD I didn't note some Nonstop Courses, but they're Basic songs so I can warm up and get in mah groove, yah? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I'm at the point where I'm not sweating as much and I lose little to no breath. Also, I sip some water too (yes, SIP water...not gulp down a mouthful). My stamina kicks ass now.

Happy DDR moment: That SUPER STAR on Maniac with the failing grade? My brain was like, dead, and I tried to catch up, but I was so happy I did that killer Left-Up stepping that's after the long 1/8th step swarm because it's the first time I've done it, and I saw that every step I got was a PERFECT step. Doubly amusing since those two songs have almost identical timing sequences for the majority of the songs http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Hah. Richard, I skipped a lot of songs:
Break Down!
D2R
Destiny
Drifting Away
Ghosts (Vincent DeMoor)
Let's Groove (Tips and Tricks vs. Wisdome)
rain of sorrow
So Deep (Perfect Sphere)
Still In My Heart
Twilight Zone
Will I?
Hysteria (I need to get used to this)
Jam & Marmalade (didn't feel like doing it)
Secret Rendezvous (I HATE THIS ONE!)
Afronova (I'm sorry, but the 3 1/8ths that go left-down-right are just hard on a soft mat, especially when it's followed by 3 1/8ths that go right-down-left!)
End of the Century
Put Your Faith In Me (Horrible-sounding song...I hate it)
Vanity Angel
Challenge:
AM-3P (AM East Mix) [I'm a bit of a klunker on the steps, but I'm sure I can barely pass)
Celebrate Nite (EURO TRANCE STYLE) [damn, this felt fast]
Hystera 2001 (no, no, AND NO!)
SUPER STAR (from NONSTOP MEGAMIX) (a surprisingly slow song that I CANNOT nail the swarms down...ugh)

Combine this list and the list I posted before, and you got the entire list of songs for DDRMAX2 US PS2 version.

I'm just...gah! I feel so friggin' awesome. I'M DOING SO WELL! It looks like all that time spending on Trick paid off because my stamina is not diminishing so easily! X3

Okay, so what songs have I done?

AM-3P (AM East Mix)
CLEBRATE NITE (EURO TRANCE STYLE)
Do It Right (80's Electro Mix)
Kind Lady (interlude)
Silent Hill (3rd Christmas Mix)
SUPER STAR (from NONSTOP MEGAMIX)
Stop for a brief moment: why did I put up Oni songs? Simple: swarms, and lots of them. AM East's there for varied steps, CN (ETS) for speed, DIR (8EM), KL (i), and SS (fNM) for killer swarms (though 'interlude' only has a swarm at the beginning), and Silent Hill to work with Freeze Arrows.
AM-3P
Do It Right
I Was the One
Kind Lady (AA!)
Spin the Disc (close to AA!)
SUPER STAR (I got a B! Finally!)
The Shining Polaris
Bad Routine
Forever Sunshine
Radical Faith (kick-ASS!)
Tomorrow Perfume

I'm so happy! X3

PARANOiA ~respect~ is crazy. Is our pal Naoki hiding behind the .3k pseudonym?

Paranoia -Respect-

-At first, I thought it sounded like a Paranoia song being played backwards.

-Then, it got decent, for about 5 seconds. It seemed all too...random.

-A pause in the song. Sure, that's fine, but it doesn't belong where they put it. Instead of past "pause in the middle" songs, it seems like it just threw it in at a random time. Previous pauses in songs actually seemed logical, not this one.

-Sounds like a song in the same vein as MAX. (period)

Unless the steps are good, this song won't get my -Respect-.

Thanks for the link, Richard http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The steps for the song are quite good. It's definitely not the hardest song, but it took me a few tries to AA it on StepMania. The song pauses a toal of five times, and it's very split-second. 555 steps total, the same as MAX 300 and MAXX UNLIMITED.

The last 20 or so seconds go insane. Imagine the pivoting near the end of PARANOIA survivor MAX (Challenge), but with freeze arrows and break-beats thrown in -- it's very hard. Not to mention the song is 300 BPM instead of 290.

As for who the artist is -- I really have no idea. .3k obviously stands for the BPM of the song (the artist name always does for PARANOiA songs), which is 300. But it doesn't really sound Naoki-ish. And the -Respect- part almost makes me think it's done by another BEMANI artist who is respecting the PARANOiA songs. Blah, I guess we'll have to wait for the Party Collection original soundtrack before we find out.

For one thing, practice by controller. This is helpful in knowing how the timing of the steps go. Do yourself a favor: AA everything on Light. Occasionally toss yourself into Nonstop and do a few courses. If you really want to challenge yourself at this point, do the Order 1 course without setting it up.

Make yourself limber! For the fast songs you describe, just think to yourself, "Okay, psych up!" http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif ? Well, that's just me... I'd also recommend Break Down! and End of the Century to gain stamina.

Lastly, for MAXX UNLIMITED, LEARN THE STEPS BY CONTROLLER. OVER AND OVER. DO NOT ATTEMPT BY FOOT UNTIL YOU AA THE SONG ON LIGHT BY CONTROLLER. The only tough part in that song is 4 the double-steps (a.k.a. "jumps") that are consecutive (they're somewhere right after the freeze-stop.

Don't be afraid to use mods. I never strayed away from 1.5x. Don't be afraid to use Solo as well. SOLO FOREVER!

I don'te really mess with the mods. I play 2x at home, but I play 1.5 at the arcade. For some reason the arrows move really fast at the arcade. Also, that's the only mod I use, so I don't even know what solo does. :/

When DDRMAX came out, this is what I did to basically learn and memorize Max300.

Training Mode (I think it's called)

I know it sounds corny, but you have to start slow.
Set the Speed (not the modifier) to 1.

Now:

1. Play it until you get at least A (B works as well)
2. Increase the Speed by 1.

Repeat steps 1 and 2.
By the time you get to Speed 5, you got it. Note that in the arcade, it could be easier or harder. Most likely harder, since you most likely would not play Max 300 as the first song.

Another way to learn hard songs in the arcade is to get a memory card that can be used on the DDR machines (special format), and put an edit on it, of the EXACT same steps as the original. Play the edit as your first song, on BEGINNER. Note that this method only works on DDREX.

i decided to see what you guys were talking about in here, for no apparent reason. i saw the link to the "new" paranoia.

from a listener standpoint: very nice to ears, good beat, and marginally faster than survivor (it being 300bpm i would hope so) also it has those beat stops that are funny to listen to

from a player standpoint: sound like fun, hopefully i'll be able to play it ine arcade before the pads get worn down again. (where i go, the machines are in constant play, so the pads degrade quite rapidly)

the the new guy: (sorry i forgot your name already)

just like mixfortune said, take it slow at first, you're not going to master it overnight

THOSE FRIGGIN' BASTARDS ARE SELLING METAL PADS! I'm sure they were Red Octane...! The reason why they never showed up before was, well, not a lot of people asked for them. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif One had a bar, the other didn't. Guess which one I picked?

...

....

Non-bar. Stupid. I hate that thing!

I played Ultramix recently. Ugh. I'm not crazy about the song selection and the life bar is difficult to read. About the only thing I did like was the pad because it does not move, but other than that I can live without it.

Then we played my friend's import version of Extreme on the PS2 for about two and a half hours. I did all songs on Standard except for Max 300 and Paranoia Survivor. I...hate...Paranoia. Max 300 will always be fun.

I also got to try out Afronova. Like an idiot, I took it on on Standard, but I got a C, so *shrug*

I saw a guy freestyle the 1 group of swarms in Afronova on heavy today. It was pretty cool. My mission for the day was Drop Out on Heavy. I can read the steps easier on 1x speed, but when it came to the jumps, I couldn't nail em on that speed. So I bumped it up, had difficulty with the steps but I owned the jumps, then it got to the part with consecutive 3 steps..I failed there.

Can't Stop Fallin in love speed mix...I missed two arrows previous to the "ouch" I made, then I missed another 9 arrows after the said "ouch." While playing I slammed my heel into the bar, OUCH!! The bad thing is, I got a B even with the missed group of arrows. But, I woulda got an "A" if I woulda hit those. Makes me mad sometimes. >:[!!

ARGH... my message got deleted from a page refresh...meh...

Upon heading to Fry's a few days ago and seeing the metal pads, I was eager to test them out. We asked various workers nearby if it was OK to wear shoes on them, considering they added extra protection with plastic sheets and they said it was fine, and that they had just forgotten to remove the signs asking to remove your shoes, since they normally use flat pads.

After completing a couple of songs, I let my brother pla a few. As I was watching him, I heard a woman mutter "Can't people read the signs?" in an insulting manner, so tried to calmly explain that the metal pads were MADE for shoes, unless you wanted injuries from the screws, among other things.

She kept persisting, looping her arguments only to the point that "the sign is right there saying you can't use shoes". It seemed like she wasn't hearing what I was saying, considering I've played DDR for over a year and care for my own pads (both flat and Ignitions). After telling her that various workers approved and that she could feel free to report us if she wished, I went back to the game, leaving her to do whatever she wanted.

She probably went around the whole store trying to find the ONE person that would get us to remove our shoes (most likely a worker that didn't realize that the pads were built for shoes and were shoe-safe).

So we were asked to remove our shoes, and we complied, despite the big drop in our abilities to be able to play on a metal pad. The setup sounds similar to how Renee described, with one with the bar and the other without. They tops were uneven, but I decided to practice heavy double play anyways, with decent results, despite scraping my feet numerous times.

Before leaving, I decided to play Maxx Unlimited for the heck of it (yes, on a metal pad with only socks *ouch*). On the metal pad without the bar I failed miserably.

I was about to leave but decided to try it with the barred pad. Still without shoes, only socked feet scraping against the metal screws, I was able to finally complete Maxx Unlimited Heavy with ... a C. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Okay. I went to Gameworks in Long Beach! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

How big is it?
I didn't go up to the first floor, but since I've been to GW Ontario, it's small. About 1/4th the size (we're talking about the video games area). The other half consists of a prize game area, where you earn tickets for...stuff.
The arcade also has a bar in it (anybody can go up...just make sure the kiddies don't get the al-key-houl). FREE WATER! WOO! Great for DDR AND you can take it around the floor, as long as you don't spill it (they give you a lemon for free as well, and there's tables provided to set the drinks...which are in glasses X3 ).
The sports bar is smack dab with the bowling alley. I'll try that this New Year's Day. Uh, I went soloing. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif The grill is open and easy to enter...it's part of the prize arcade as well.

DDR's?
Found a DDR USA, and an EXTREME right across from it. They are not loud, but they're loud enough to hear the music when you play. Get there while you can, with new machines for play. XD

Price?
I don't know. Seeing as how I haven't been to a Gameworks in two years or so, they still use the plastic cards, but the games use a confusing Credits system. DDR EX was 72 credits...see what I mean?

So, the solution? Unlimited play for 1, 2, or 3 hours. I paid $25 for 2 hours play on ANYTHING, and the only other game I briefly played was F-Zero AX. It gets better: 3 hours is a mere 2 dollars more. X3

I got a metal pad for Christmas. Cobalt Flux.
VERY nice. Of course, until we get some added plastic protection, we just use socks. No bar, but that's not a problem at all. Definitely registers a lot better than Ignitions, and doesn't seem to be loses its touch.

Nice Gameworks... the one near myself has USA and EX, but both were near dead... :|

You know what? I really need to learn how to make my stepmania actually work. Er....Recently I've been getting really frustrated at myself because I'm not gettin A's/AA's on the 9 star songs. I think maybe I'm turning into some sorta DDR machine.

But other than that I've been trying to just beat the Maxxx songs on Heavy. Max 300 is easier, sorta. But I get farther in maxx Unlimited.

But anway, I gotta go finish registering for my classes....but when I get back it's either gonna be Ragnarok or DDR. It's just kinda cold to be playing DDR in my basement, ya know?

I hear you there. We currently have our metal pad downstairs in a small room where there's not much heat... sucks when you're all numb trying to play DDR on a metal pad.

On a side note, I also managed to beat The Legend of Maxx Heavy in the arcade the other day. Again, it's just so I can say I've beaten it. I got a D. Unfortunately, my memory card didn't save off the arcade machine quite correctly, so it doesn't have my record. At least I have one witness. Whether you guys believe me or not doesn't really matter to me http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif as long as I know I beat it.

It's actually quite easy, once you get the pace down.
The whole first half of the song (all the way up to the slowdown) can pretty much all be done in a relaxed state, resting up for the last part, which is basically Paranoia Survivor Max caliber, but shorter.

I still need to beat Paranoia Survivor Max Heavy (got near the end, just have to get past that final cluster of arrows to the last slowdown, after that it will be easy) and Paranoia Survivor Max Oni (X_X)

What a nightmare! http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/atnoni.jpg

Single-digit Greats... http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/blondegirl.jpg

Can't stop making my hands freeze while playing http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/CSFILSM.jpg

You'll never see this unless you glitch an Extreme: http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/llsoni.jpg

Heavy...1.5x... http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/psheavy.jpg

I feel like I can take this on next time I go to an arcade: http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/sexyplanetoni.jpg

No offense to anybody, but this song rivals CSFIL Speedy: http://ee.domaindlx.com/ReeneePSO/simhmomo.jpg

The LOVE SHINE Challenge steps are so freakin' awesome. Not only does it go with the music/beat/vocals 100x better than the Heavy steps, it also seems somewhat challenging to play on foot.

It's a shame those steps were left out of the final version. If I had an import version of EXTREME for PS2, I'd so make edit steps identical to the Challenge steps and upload them to my local arcade machine(s).

Mission of the week:

Max 300 Heavy step, at least a C.

Go me. I haven't even beaten it. But I figure that after I finish this, I'll be even worse on the slow songs. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

True. I settled on a B for Max 300, but playing all those faster songs must have destroyed my legs... I can't hold a combo as well on the other songs... it's like I've reached my prime already http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nono.gif

US DDREX has been announced!

Oni's back, and they're adding in XBox's Challenge Mode, now dubbed "Mission Mode".

Lessee...well, from what I recall from various sources, EGM Magazine says it COULD very well have an online function (come on, this HAS to be 56k-able...it's just a bunch of button pushing...), IGN reports 200 minutes of music, and I do hope they're not fucking around...I believe that if that's right, we could have more music than DDREX JP. Then again, it's conflicting with Konami's 100 Minutes of music report...another 65-ish songs again? -_-;;

And from the looks of a screenshot:
http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/ddrmax_011003__010804_001.jpg

It'll be playable at E3 2004. DDREX will be released this Fall. Bastards.

Just came back from a DDR tournament at my college.
There were three brackets. 1-4 feet, 4-7 feet, and 7-10 feet. Single elimination of a 1 vs. 1. One player would choose the first song, the other player would choose the second song, and the third song was random. The game was DDREX import for PS2, and Max. (period) was the only "banned" song in the tourney, meaning you couldn't choose it. Oout of 15 people in a 16 person match, I got the bye round on the first round (didn't matter much anyways). My friend won his first stage and second stage, and I won my first (second) stage, so we ended up going against each other.

The student who set up the DDR portion of the tournament (there was a SSBM tournament also) was pretty dang good. In the matches I was watching him, he was getting AA on Sakura and Oni V (400+ perfects per).

The grading system was simple enough.
Perfects = 2 points.
Greats = 1 point.
OK (completing a freeze arrow) also = 2 points.
All else = 0 points.

Since my friend and I knew somewhat about the songs that we were better in, I chose Xenon and he chose Paranoia Survivor Max (we were in the heavy bracket). Luckily, I was able to get more points on both songs, even though we both failed PSM. The third song, being random, was Dynamite Rave Heavy. I managed to complete a near full combo to advance to the Final. The one I would be facing: The one who got AA Sakura and Oni V.

Even though I had a metal pad at home, I went with the foam pads. He used a metal pad himself. He chose the first song. Max 300. We were almost even as far as combos went, but he had more perfects while I had many more greats. Both gots high B's, if I recall. Next I chose a song. Wanting to stay away from songs such as Oni V and Sakura, I went for it and chose Maxx Unlimited. Holy hell. The first 5-10 seconds of the song I messed up my timing a bit, but recovered and came out with a strong save for the remainder of the song, scoring a solid B. He had slightly more perfects than I (409 to my 387) but again I had a sizeable amount of greats more.

Needless to say, being about 2 of the 3 people there who were actually playing 9+ songs, and in the Final, we got some claps and cheers from the other students, along with calls for "The Legend of Maxx", which I have beaten before and felt confident that I could go for the "Maxx Trio" since I didn't feel all too tired. We stuck to the rules and went with the random song, landing ourselves Healing Vision: Angelic Mix. I went for 2x on this one, and almost full comboed, save for a good midway through the easy part X_x. Oddly enough, our points were exactly the same for HVAM, he again getting more perfects while I closed the gap with greats and a higher combo.

After the scores were tallied, he came out 190 points ahead. Not bad when the total possible for those three songs combined is in the thousands.

Oddly, I think he failed Unlimited near the very end. X_x He said I picked the song that was his weak point, heh.

So I had fun today. I almost managed to win the Heavy bracket, doing much better than I had expected myself to. Now I should go for the "Maxx Trio" sometime, heheh.

Some nice person bothered to put up the timings for Extreme. It goes like this:

In your StepMania folder, there's a folder called Data. Open it.

In the Data folder should be a file called StepMania.ini. Open it with a text editor.

Search the following term: "JudgeWindow".

You should now be sent to the first match that is identical to the searched term. Input these values:

JudgeWindowAttackSeconds=0.120000
JudgeWindowBooSeconds=0.150000
JudgeWindowGoodSeconds=0.120000
JudgeWindowGreatSeconds=0.090000
JudgeWindowMarvelousSeconds=0.015000
JudgeWindowMineSeconds=0.120000
JudgeWindowOKSeconds=0.250000
JudgeWindowPerfectSeconds=0.030000

These work best if you've never messed with the Judge Difficulty settings.

After I input the new values, the effect was notable. I played Butterfly on Maniac and I got 4 Greats.

Two hilarious occurrances:

1. I finally managed to full combo AM-3P on Standard. Embarassing. -_-;; It's the part at the beginning with the down-right-down and down-left-down arrows got me. I got an A. Boo.

2. Before I even played, I noticed some granny messing around with the machine. It's like she tried to disco freestyle to Graduation. VERY WRONG.
