You could sure try. Don't think it would last long, though. Once banned, always banned.

Won't work well with those that don't have static IP addresses, like dial-up users.

Which is why I'm here, but I see no reason to ban a region of IPs.

Still...it's why I'm here. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif''

That won't work well either, since you can end up blocking other members that use the same ISP as the person that got banned.

I'm pretty sure she was being sarcastic. >.>;

But it's fun to think about what she would do if she was serious. Last time I heard, she said that next X'mas, she's going to let each mod ban 15 random members as a present.

Hah this site has been threatened to be hacked more times then Abdur has posts. It's yet to happen.

I guess they all want to try getting past the crazy cuban! Hah sure yeaaa.

The only takeover that has worked is Lolita's takeover, and that's because she is offering Reese's sticks and booze and strippers.

The last vacation I went on, I was able to play PSO, but I had to wait for the old guy downstairs to go to bed so I could use the tube that was down there. It was quite rough when I could use it.

You know, even with an entire ISP banned someone could still get on, provided they knew what they were doing.

Although..it wouldn't take much at all, so anyone that knows about IP addresses, etc., should know they could just proxy right back on.

You don't get unbanned. If you due actions that result in getting banned, you never get to come back.

As for Pontius, you were most likely banned before, and then there was a time when everyone who was banned was pardoned.

That no longer happens. Once banned, always banned.

And read the posts, thats the point of a message board.

Geez, I remember when this site was too lenient, when it seemed incredibly hard to get banned (or at least few were that deserved it). Now, get banned once and it's over. Is there no middle ground on this site? O_o

LollipopLolita
Oct 18, 2003, 12:34 AM
if people followed rules and used their head a little, then we wouldn't need to do all the things we did. unfortunately, this isn't true and we need to be fair to everyone across the board. and no matter what we do, people will complain. some people say we're being too harsh right now, some even have said to me we're being too lenient, or that we're not harsh enough and let people get away with things. so then what?

ABDUR101
Oct 18, 2003, 12:56 AM
We roll a pair of dice. We select 24 people at random and given them a number. We roll the dice. Whoever's number gets rolled gets banned. =D

Seriously, we can't make everyone happy, so we're going to make the people that matter happy. Gamespy is the first, we're on their servers, and we're going to follow their rules. Then comes parents of children who use this site, since it's a site for people of all ages. That doesn't mean adults can act like adults and talk about everything in an obscene manner, that means everyone has to act, talk and respect each other with civil words and actions. To the extent that a 13 year old can post on the site and not be offended, or shown things which are illegal, offensive, etc.

And even that sways, because different people are offended by different things. You could spout so many swear words to make a sailor cry, and then have one thing set you off. Does anyone realise how difficult it is to find the medium in all of that? To have a site where people have freedom to have fun, but keep it strict enough so people aren't constantly being offended?

PSOW used to be leanient in that we would'nt give official warnings, three strikes you're out and all that. (For a long time, the only people who got banned were off-site spammers and afew idiots who wanted to cause trouble for the forum by mass spamming and flaming.) We practically knew everyone, and there was a trust. If someone was told not to do something, there was a friendship and understanding, and more often than not the person would'nt do it again.

Then lamers came, started being offensive, ignorant and rude to everyone, badgering the staff indirectly and bluntly, making off handed jabs at everyone.

When that happened, the rules gradually got stricter, because we put up with it for so long and had everyone put up with it with us, that it got to the extent that enough was enough and there would be a set "law" system that everyone would follow, or that'd be it.

Thus, the rules you see now, and the verbal warnings(which were usually all we had to give out), and the official warnings(three strikes you're out). It's enforced because we're not having people being ignorant to other site members and getting away with it, you're on the site, you're going to act and behave how the rules say, and if not, you're not needed on the site.

It's simple enough to understand, and the rules aren't hard to remember. It's not like we hide the rules and it's one big guessing game of "Will I get banned for posting this?".

Soukosa
Oct 18, 2003, 01:46 AM
I can understand what you need to do and personally, I feel you've been doing a good job at what you need to do. It is kinda sad that rest of us have to suffer from the results of those that can't follow rules, but that's life.

LollipopLolita
Oct 18, 2003, 06:34 AM
and trust me, we don't feel like doing it either, but we have to be fair and there really isn't a choice when it comes to certain people and problem areas. we're trying hard to have a balance and while we feel like we want to expect more maturity out of people, it's just not possible sometimes.
