Whats your router conected to?
theres a few options availabe to you, the best set up would be

Cable modem, wired to the Router(asuming a multi port router)
router port:
1 downstairs P.C
2 upstairs P.C
3 Gamecube

not possible?

router to upstairs P.C wired into a network interface card
second NIC in upsatirs P.C conected to gamecube with a crossover cable
internet conection sharing enabled on the upstairs p.c with the two NIC cards, upstairs p.c must be on and conected to the internet for this to work
