Yes, actually you can host a PSO server. Baru has one and I'm in the process of getting one up and running (although I don't have the bandwidth to support too many other players so it will just be me and a few friends trying it out just for fun.)

if this is so then why cant there be free servers i.e. with out a hunters license like most pc games
because after all if the server is private thin why should sega get the $$.

How do you access the private servers? I'd like to play online but I can't dish out the cash right now and I was wondering how. Thanks.

Ill preface this by saying, I rarely check this forum and I don't want to get into doing tech support for this, but if you don't have experience running a server and don't have the software for it, an excellent alternative (also cheap lol) is to get Raiden DNS and use that to run a DNS server on your pc. That should set you in the right direction. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Could you recommend any other DNS proggys? Raiden refuses to launch for me.

Hane DNS works well. Not sure if I'm allowed to mention domain and server info for Sega. I wouldn't think it would be a problem but who knows lol.

Yeah, discovered Hane a few mins after I made that post.

Be able to PM me the host name for JP Ver1.1, if possible?

It's only illegal if you get caught.

Hmmm...making your own server means that you can make your own quests too, correct? Or...are the quest already put on the GC disk already and wating to be accessed? But it you could make whatever you want as far as quests are concerned you could just pump commands to your GC the whole time, to keep sending more and more monsters to you..that would be the shiz.

I dled the program before, I found it with google, pretty easy, and really straight foward. meh..

PSO PC does not come with any kind of server capability. It still talks to the public servers exclusive. People have found ways to do some devious things regarding this, but they still need to use the public servers.

It's unfortunate that aside from some half-spoken and questionable rumors there are no signs of any working private servers or more importantly, the code to run one's own. I have unrestricted access to enormous amounts of unfiltered bandwidth and this would be a wonderful thing to play with.

Despite a 10 to 1 vote in favor of releasing code, the post from the general forum has slinked off the first page and into oblivion.
