Anyone know if episode 3 will have any changes in the requirments to play online? For example your internet provider. I'm very exited about EP3 but i'm going to have some serious problems if aol is unable to connect to EP3 online. Any answers please?

There hasn't been any news on Sega or SonicTeam changing the requirments to play PSO Ep. 3 online. Of course AOL is not compatible with AOL. Does anyone else know any different?

Well there is that bit of news that Nintendo named AOL its ISP of choice for online games and stuff, but that's if Nintendo made the game. However, "The company is at pains to point out that they have no intention of making any online games at the moment."

So most likely since Ep.3 is being made by Sonic Team the answer of AOL compatibility is no.

Edit: Hmm maybe there is a possibility of AOL connectivity. After reading the article a bit more carefully, it says, "However, any publishers mad enough to bother going online with the Cube will now be licensed AOL connectivity software which will allow the games to connect to the Internet over AOL. Hmm. Err I don't know then, time will tell.

Oh yes, I visited the Nintendo.com online store, and perhaps AOL connectivity is possible. Here I'll quote some areas of interest...

"Many internet service providers require game developers to use proprietary development tools so that online games will work with that provider. If Nintendo and its third party publishers do not have access to these proprietary development tools, Nintendo GameCube games will not work with these internet service providers. Please check with your local service provider to determine whether your service is compatible with Nintendo GameCube online games."

And then...

"Sega's Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1 & 2 is the only game that is currently compatible with the Modem Adapter. While an arrangement with America Online has been made that will enable Nintendo GameCube games to be compatible with AOL's service, Phantasy Star Online is a finished disc that was published before the arrangement was made, and so there is no way to make Phantasy Star Online compatible with AOL."

So does this suggest that since Nintendo has access to proprietary development tools due to the recent merger with AOL that Ep.3 will be compatible? Ho hum, who knows. This is all speculation, and it doesn't affect me anyways, I use MSN. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I doubt AOL will be compatible, and if it is, it'll be laggy as all hell.

Good luck getting online http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
