GC: Online question

If you don't know already, I actually don't own PSO. Instead, I use my own memory card and just play when someone has PSO. However, the person i play PSO with the most is getting the online version soon. I want to know if the sign-up goes by character or by GC, or copy of PSO, etc, so that I can play it at their house without paying for it myself for only a one-time-use per month

It's done by serial number for PSO...so you could use your friend's game file, but you cant be on at the same time.
