Does anyone know why Gollum or Smeagol always refers to himself as "we" or "us"?

He has split personality disorder.

One is his nice side(Smeagol) who hates the Ring. The other is his bad side(Gollum) who loves the ring.

At least, that is how I took it.

Ugh. I hate that man and his leery eyes. Eowyn is so much better than that...

Besides, Gollum is far older than Grima, so I don't think it works.

I've always seen his "we's" and "us's" as being a side-effect of being alone for so very long. All he ever talked to was the ring, so he began treating it like another living thing that had the same thoughts and feelings as he did. However, the dual personality between Gollum and Smeagol is a good theory, too. I just don't know that Gollum and Smeagol were necessarily aware of one another, though.

in the movie, they talk to each other, and i the book, he has conversations with himself. Gollum was created after Smeagol killed his best friend, Deagol.

Granted, but I don't remember Smeagol and Gollum holding conversations until after Frodo comes along and befriends the lunatic. My memory could just be shit, though. I've not read the books in years.

In the Hobbit, though, Gollum never makes mention of Smeagol, so it always came off to me that he'd locked that part of himself away and wouldn't even acknowledge it. Therefore his "we's" and such were in response to talking to the ring for so very, very long.

Nah...it's actually pretty hilarious.

Though...where the hell did you get that picture of Gollum...I mean that has to be by far the ugliest version of him I have ever seen. Then again I suppose he was meant to be ugly. He kinda reminds me of a crazed wizard in that pic.

It's good though...I beat he loves his spam...ekkkk

I had to 'Google' Search it. They didn't have any of the pics from the movie (Which was the gollum I wanted to work with) but they only had sketches. That was the most detailed, and his hand was already grasping something. I just re-sized my spam can and put it in his hand.
