View Full Version : Is PSO still fun?

I'm thinking of playing PSO online again. The main reason is because a good friend of mine has decided to play again. So, I'm just wondering if it's worth bothering to go online again.

Are there any decent quests put up?
Anything ridiculous like the console still crashing at random?
It'll probably be me and her playing, so is it good for 2 people still?
I haven't played online for around a year now(just a few days before the last 3 C mode stages were put on the servers), so bear that in mind.

I would ask her how PSO is, but she's switched her cell phone off, and her land line is occupied by the GameCube modem.

P.S. Any places you'd recommend to buy a keyboard or adaptor?

P.P.S I live in the UK.

yes it is still very fun... quite a few new quest have been made since then including the new rappy's holiday http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

for two people it is still fun but i find it better with more...

as for the question about the keyboard adaptor, the controller keyboard cost a crazy amount ( 89.95 american...51.49 pounds...)

well, i have been wihtout a modem for a while and got bored shitless. and i need my money.
theres many quests up, check the quests section

if you mean FSOD, then ST have removed the doubel save patch, which caused most corruptions.

for keyboard, i think a good site ie www.datel.co.uk, but i could be wrong-that url is only from my dodgey memory. either way, the datel powerboard is the best keyboard. they go for around 20 quid. i got mien in two days with very little if any shipping charges (im in UK)although i hardly used the thing. do you wanna buy it off me?

You're kidding, right?

Thanks for the reply, deathreaper. Is the rappy holiday the same as the one that was around when JP v1.0 was around? Or was you not on PSO then?

Wasn't there a 3rd-party keyboard released a while ago? I refused to spend that much money on the pathetic hybrid keyboard in the first place, and I still refuse to spend that much on a keyboard now.

Maybe. I'll give you a PM tomorrow sometime to talk to you about it.

Another thing, is C mode still quite popular among PSO players? I played C mode for hundreds of hours on the Dreamcast. Loved it. Hated the GameCube version because it was ridiculously easy.I'll need to pick up everything a RAmarl can use :l

Oh right. Sorry about that. I think it was sometime after the quest with the lanterns, and the other one where you bash your buttons as fast as you can, while on top of this rock on the beach level. I can't remember the names, but I hope that's a good enough description. It was definitely November 2002, though.

Datel.co.uk is the best place to get a Keyboard, the keyboard is kinda crappy, but i would sacrafice a few punctuation marks rather than 50 pound upwards.

A few places like HMV/Virgin Megastore might have em in stock and if you ask em nicely they will order on in for you.

I am offline and still enjoy PSO. I have been playing it forever and it helps to pass time and vent some anger whenever venting is needed.

I would say that PSO is indeed still fun.
As compared with the beginning of GCPSO vs. now (because you seemed to be around only at the start):

It does have a much wider variety of things to do, as was mentioned each by name above. And, of course, it's going to get MUCH better when E2C comes out, and everyone can go tearing around in the temple, spaceship, and Gal Da Val C-mode style.
**A whole lot of the people who said they made GC Challenge "Too Easy" are very much looking foreward to that.

Battle...well...it ain't what it used to be. The whole 'tech imbalance' nonsense is still in full effect, which made a whole lot of the old pro battlers quit, and has turned FOs into a too powerful fun-killing sort of thing. I still battle, but only with androids. They still didn't release rules 7 and 8 (the space ship trap-fest and the spaceship race) and may never do it because they weren't that popular of rules.

Cheating:
It's gettin' a bit worse, a bit more like DCPSO. Only now, they have mega-power mags instead of those permenent invinc. Sonitis. Super-weapons are makeing a comeback to hassle people when not used properly. (300% and all that) EXTREMELY fortunatly, there's no PK/CK whatever, now that dbl. save is gone, people can't FSOD you at a critical point to kill you. It's safer, for now.

Socializing:
You'll NEED a KB. Nearly everyone has one, quite unlike the start of GC. Although, there aren't that many EUs at all online, that I've seen. Not at all like DC...their ships are nearly always empty. But of course, they all just might have moved someplace else.

I'd reccommend a return, plus, who knows who you'll run into. A whole lot of it was always about the people anyway.

i'd say PSO is still fun, it seems to release more dopamine in my brain then most other games do for me as well as other people

Well, it's still fun to an extent for me, but look at my join date =P I've been playing this game for about 2.5 years now, and I'd have to say the same basic gameplay gets a little stale after a while.

To answer the original question.

No. PSO is not fun. The community however, is. That's what keeps a game like this alive. The people, not the game. Make sure you get a KB before you go back online though. And the datel keyboard sucks giant balls. I have one, beleive me.

Hi! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

For me PSO will be always fun. Is true many times I take breaks and Imlike 1 month without playing it but it will never fully bore me forever.

They put updates in a monthly basis so there's much more stuff since november 2002. But most were in DC already, anyays is still fun to play sometimes. And The endless nightmares, retrieve weapon and mop ups are always useful.

About cmode you should play it more. I find it hella more fun than in DC. Traps, useful materials, crazy percents in weapons, force specialities add variety and fun. Easier??? When has been cmode any hard? lol
And now there is not an ultimate class like HUcast in Ver2. HUcaseal lacks ATP and HUcast lacks ATA. And TA is funnier than in ver2.

About Kn I recommend you those ps/2 and playstation adaptors. They cost around 20$ in import stores. And you can put any PC keyboard. And it works better than the datel powerboard adaptor+keyboard.

I hope to see you online. But advise you. I play like 1/3 of what I played in DC.

Long time no see. Or should I say talk? Anyway, nice to hear from you. Do you ever speak to Rab?

You've got a point about C mode, it never was hard. But still, it got too easy, especially as I was getting through C1-7 with 2 people that didn't know maps, kept dying, and I didn't have keyboard. I still remember when C2 was released and my FOnewearl killing sharks in 1 Foie..

I hate battle mode on the GameCube. The slow pace of it just got boring. The thousands of battles I had on the Dreamcast didn't help me find any fun in it either. mmm... reminds me of the time I played 20 B6 games in a row, non-stop...

Cheating is still as funny as ever then. Funny thing is, I know quite a lot about what's been going on in the cheating side of PSO, since some people on my buddy list talk to me about it. Strangest thing was a dupe technique using a glitch in the item bank, and only needing a controller. Not even reset/power button.

As for socialising, I don't think I'll be doing a lot of it. Not that I'm secluded and anti-social, just I've had to deal with enough drama and other crap from PSO before. I'm not fussed about the lack of EU players either. Most of the people I speak to online are American anyway. As long as they speak English I'm fine.

PSO is always fun. It may sound crazy, but I dont think I'll ever stop playing PSO. I mean.. I'll take breaks from it once and a while (like Im currently taking a bit of a rest right now), but I don't think I'll ever STOP playing it PERMINANTLY. There's just no reason to.

whether or not pso is still fun cant really be answered that well. its always a persons opinion as to if its boring or not. i always see these people who use the same weapon all the time and always use the same char while playing with the same people all the time and say pso is getting old... well duh. or people who do something like this- "i'll never get tired of pso... (1month later)... man i dont find crap im gonna stop being legit... (1week later)... man, pso is getting freaking boring." wow, i wonder why...
anywho, thousands upon thousands of people log onto the pso servers every day so apparently people in general still find it enjoyable.

PSO will always be fun. It's just that some things are more fun than PSO... =/ Somewhere along the road I finally decided to take a break from it, but PSO has changed my life forever. I still name my characters in other games after my PSO characters, so in that sense they live on. I also like to wonder what happened to them after their fan fic played itself out.

BA mode... it still calls to me... why?

Archilles_ and Xenakis_ still live!

I assume you're referring to this entire website as 'here', which is a load of crap. A significant portion of these forums are dedicated non-PSO discussion boards. That said, I can understand if you think that people who are bored of PSO should no longer come to the Version 1, 2 and Episode 1 & 2 - General board.

Besides, isn't the topic clear enough? The name of the topic is a question for crying out loud.

I'm trying to find what kind of state the game is in, because I am interested in playing again.
