My connection is broadband through comcast.

The error basically states: You could not be connected to the server. Please check that your provider settings are correct before connecting.

Now the weird part. When I go to website and try to buy a hunters license(already bought by going on my pc), it says url cannot be located(not in exact words) however when i press Y it says im on online. My only guess is that i dont have the right ethernet cable, i saw that theres something called a cross over RJ45 cable, i dont know how to distingush between the two.

That message pops up sometimes for me 2. Sometimes what I end up doing is ne-newing my hunter's license by cancelling my HL and then starting it back up again.

Or if that doesn't work then just wait a day and try it tommorow...

Holy crap after i read that. I looked on my cable super closely and i noticed some tape with the label crossover written on it. I feel slow. Anyway thats obviously not the problem.

Also did anybody hook up their cube through comcast cable?? Is it compatible?

edit- I just had the wildest idea. When trying to online, is it necessary to create an entirely new character? Because ive been playing offline for quite sometime. Plus ive played my characters on other cubes. Would this make a difference? Do i need to create a new character to go online?

same character can be used online and offline, as long as you havent given your character a different serail number/acces key to that of your own.

I use Comcast cable (actually Bresnan now) and it is compatible. You may need to call in (like I did) and register your BBA mac address with them. I got the EXACT same errors before I called in so I have a suspicion that is the problem. The DCHP server is not recognizing your BBA therefore it is not able to resolve an IP. I would be willing to bet that after you call them and have them add the mac, you'll be good to go.

Now i definitely feel slow. BBA mac address what is it? And after that im going have dig around for their number. However i thank you from the bottom of my heart, my problem is finally getting resolved!! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

BTW before i get too excited, you used a direct connection right? no routers. cause thats what im doing. And you selected (during the time that you had it) manual put in IP address or were allowed to do a auto DHCP after you called in?

You will need to remove the BBA from the GC and on the bottom of it will be a small white sticker with a 12 digit alphanumeric MAC address. it should start with 000. After that call tech support at 1-888-909-4357. Tell them that they need to add a Mac address for your GC so that you can play online.

Ok, you'll probably need to go to http://www.comcast.net and go locate their support number. Actually go here and enter your zip code.
https://www.comcast.com/Localization/default.asp?referer=/Support/ContactSupport.asp
That should give you the appropriate number to call.
