I myself played a collection series, but only 3 and 4 of it. it's fun, but I always come back to...PSO!

You forgot an "I haven't played any" option.

Personally, number four was the best.

Played all except Adventure, Gaiden and Text Adventures.
Beat PSIV 3 times.
In my opinion, PSIV = Best, PSIII = Worst.

A lot of people dislike PSIII... I think it has to do with which PS game you played first, really. I rather liked PSIII; I played it around the same time I played PSII.

And indeed, I've played, and beaten, all of the main series, as well as Phantasy Star Adventure, and I've also gotten a good deal of the way through Phantasy Star Gaiden, and I've also played and beaten translated versions of a couple of the PSII Text Adventure remakes. Heck, I even own two copies of PSII, along with one copy of each of the rest of the games, as well as Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA.

So yes, I am very much a Phanatic.

It's a little hard to compare an MORPG to an RPG. That and the Phantasy Star Collection remake on the GBA doesn't even have PSIV, which, in my opinion, was the best of all.

I'm about 2/3's of the way through PS1 for the master system. I am in awe of how great a game it is every time I play it. I would like to play the rest once I have finished the first one.

I've played PSI, PSII, PSIII, PSIV, PS Gaiden, PS Adventure, and am working my way through the PSI Remake for the Playstation2. I haven't been able to track down translated versions of the Phantasy Star II telemodem games, but I'll play those as soon as I can get my hands on them.

I played all of the PS games.

The best PS games I enjoyed the most are PSIII & IV.

To those who haven't played them, I recommend getting a Genesis/Mega Drive emulator for your PC and the PS ROMS. If you want to play them the legal way, get the collection on the GBA - which I'm hoping to get soon. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Sinue: You're playing the remake of PS1 on the Playstation 2!!?? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif Cool. I didn't know that Sega was remaking their first PS game. Is the remake really good?

Sega has plans to remake PS1, 2 and 4 for the PlayStation 2. So far, PS1 has been released in Japan, and it is scheduled to be released here in Q1 2004.

Concerning the PS2 Text Adventure translations... Those are available whenever Naflign's Ego is up. Naflign did the programming to port the games, and Rebecca Capowski did the translation (for Nei's Text Adventure at least... I think someone else translated Anna's Text Adventure). Not all of them are translated yet, but when he's finished, Naflign intends to release them for Windows, Dreamcast, Linux, and Mac.

Thanks for the info there, Meira.

But why isn't Sega remaking the 3rd one? Strange...

I played Phantasy Star III on the Sega Genesis way back in the day, though my brother got far more into it than I did. Mostly I watched him play. (I didn't especially care for the battle system.) More recently I started a game of Phantasy Star II on emulator. Still have to beat it though. =

Yeah, you'd think that the game that most desperately needs the makeover would get more attention, but they decided to leave it out. Oddly enough, PS3 is the game with the most detailed and intricate plot line, but it was especially unpopular. It's odd, because the game has the best and worst of a few categories.
The enemies, for example, were more detailed than any previous game. However, the animations for those enemies are minimal. A terrifying Giant would hurt you by waving finger at you. "You should be ashamed!" One creature went so far as to flex its pecs at you.
This game also had a few of the most beautiful songs in the entire series. The main theme, for example, was so beautiful, that it's not uncommon for it to be used at the weddings of people who've played the game-- it was played at my own wedding for the bride's march down the isle. Unfortunately, for every beautiful song, it had two or three ugly songs. The battle themes were tremendously repetitive, and not very long to boot.
This game was also incredibly long. The game spans 3 generations. At the end of each, you choose which woman the main character will marry. As a result, there are 4 possible endings. Few have managed to sit still long enough to see all 4 for themselves. I've only seen 3 of them, myself-- although I've played through the game 6 or 7 times... It's just really messed up to choose Lena over Maia...

So, anyway, yeah, they choose to leave out PS3, likely because it was fairly unpopular.

You really should... It's the hardest of the series, but it also has the absolute best ending.

PSII-IV are all very good games. PSIV had the worst story, but the best game play (too easy though) while PSIII had a good story but the game play was slow as hell. PSII was the best, and it had the original Nei, too bad she had to die.

Oh, I remember those!

The funniest enemy animation in PSIII has to be Rulklair giving you the finger. "Up yours!"

Been there, played those... All of them. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif 1-OL. Love 'em. Especially III. Anyone who knows me knows full well why.

But really. When's Sega/Sony/Nintendo/THQ/whoever-the-hell going to remove their collective thumbs from their anuses and give us the GBA version of PSIV, the PS2 version of PS1 (hurr-de-hurr!), or even PSO Ep. 1&2 PLUS? >_<

Has anyone thought of petitioning Atlus? They did give us Shining Soul (which was ass, IMO, BTW)... and that was a Sega property...

Well, barring those ever showing, there's always the Shining GBA collection to look forward to in spring... -_-;

Well, shut my mouth... that was prompt! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

But then again, I'm not up to the very latest in all things PS since my exile three years ago... *points to profile* ...I only have hearsay and release dates from my trusty, rusty, GS upcomings list to rely on (and that's not always very accurate, either). >_<

But I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. Oh, that, and Wild ARMs: Alter Code F. Rudy Roughnight. Yeahhhhhh. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Yeah... In my experience, GameStop and its relatives have rather crappy information sources. A guy at a Funcoland once tried to tell me that PSO was coming to the PS2... I promptly corrected him.

*chortle* It's why I'm considered an anomaly amongst GS employees. I tend to fact-check rather than rely solely on hearsay...

But for all GS's shortcomings, my experience working at EB was ten times worse... but that's a rant for another thread. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

PSO for PS2... shyeah, right. Maybe if it wouldn't immediately wind up deep-sixing EverCrack Adventures? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

You're right.. Sony wouldn't allow PSO to come to the PS2 because of the threat it would be to EQ and it's expansions. Look how they screwed over Square with FFXI for the PS2...

Hey Sony - here's an idea.. how bout actually putting out a decent game that can stand on it's own instead of just indefinately delaying the competition.. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif Jus a thought.

I actually got EQoA for the PS2.. it serves as a good reminder every few months when I get bored and frustrated of PSO, of just how good we've actually got it.

Look how they screwed over Square with FFXI for the PS2...

Forget how Sony screwed Squenix; look at how WE get screwed by FFXI for the PS2... 1)We need a Network adaptor- $40. 2)We need a Hard Drive- $99 if sold separately, else $180 for a new PS2 (FFXI is pre-installed on the HD, no word if the game will be sold seperately- signs point to "no"). 3)We need internet access- $9.99/mo to $49.99/mo depending on whether it's dial-up or broadband. If the game is BB only, raise estimate to $40-$50/mo. 4)We pay Squenix a monthly fee for the privelege of playing their fair(?) game; last I heard, they might be charging extra for each character a subscriber creates beyond the first if the character is saved server-side to reduce game tampering. I don't know if I have that much meseta on me- how's about y'all? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I don't know about you, but while Sony has no real heavy-hitters in its MMORPG lineup for the PS2, I'm really looking forward to True Fantasy Online for the XBox... I don't care! I want a dragon-steed! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I've got Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4 on the Genesis. Not number 1 though... I lack a Master System and it's hard to find anyways... but at this point, I'm just waiting for the PS2 port. I played the original on emulation for a bit, but I had trouble with the emulator between computers, so I never finished it.

Phantasy Star 3 was my first game, and I still think it's decent... but yeah, pretty much the worst of the series.

I've never beaten 2... I finally took down Dark Force over a year after I got the game (I just picked it up every so often) but I'm stuck on Mother Brain.

And 4... I played a rental, loved it, didn't get to finish it. One day I lucked out, and my local game store had a used copy in with the box and instructions, and in good condition no less. I'm a bit of a fanatic in regards to my game collection, you see. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif Naturally, I snatched it up.

...and they need to make a Phantasy Star 5. There are many who will agree with me, regardless of the fact that 4 was intended to be the last of the series.

I was planning on picking that up, then I heard about the PS2 port and figured I'd hold off for the time. I buy too many games twice as it is... Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid 2, PSO, Lunar... I could make an amusing little list. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I'm sorta hopeful they'll add more dialogue to the PS2 Phantasy Star ports... especially for number 2. There wasn't much story for any given character beyond when you picked them up.

It's not even Yuji Naka anymore, unless the game is to be made by AM2. Yuji Naka no longer works at Sonic Team.

From issue #235 July 15, 2003 of Sega World Weekly (http://www.webmasterswebworkshop.com/sww/) (THE most reliable source on Sega news I've seen thus far)--

Joining AM2, Yuji Naka from Sonic Team, and Toshihiro Nagoshi from Amusement Vision have become the non executive board of directors for AM2, effective immediately.

AM2 is known for more action-oriented games. I believe that Virtua Fighter is an example of their handywork, though the blacksheep of their flock would be Shenmue.

Taking that my last snippet on such was months ago in a Q-column in EGM... *sigh*

Yes, Onna's been branded as a retarded Wren-type yet again. *hangs head*

I guess, what with all the restructuring going on around the house, there's not a lot of room left for sentiment, is there (eg, Conspiracy, THQ and the like handling publishing chores for Sega in cases where they don't choose to do so themselves)?

I'm depressed. I think I'll go back to the ruins of the Fort and drown myself in 40-weight oil now...

I played though most of the first one, but I got stuck. Note to anyone playing that game, always have a transfer. If not, you will get stuck on a big floating palace with no way down. At all. I faught the second to last boss of the game (forgot his name) and Alis was the only one to live past that boss fight. And she LOST ALL HER MP!!! 0 left. NO WAY DOWN!!! Man I need gameshark codes.

Well Onna, the only thing FFXI is really charging you for above and beyond the normal price of online gaming, is the hard-drive.. which yes, will be sold seperately as well as in a bundle. You can use the same argument for PSO on the NGC...

Modem/BBA: $40
Internet Service: $20/40
Game: $50
HL Fee: $9.00
Keyboard on Import (offical) $80

So really.. it'll probably end up costing roughly the same amount as PSO with all the trimmings. And yeah, I know PSO can be played offline - but that's something you can't do with MMORPGs so it's only fair to judge them by their online costs. Expecially since PSO is meant to be played - ONLINE. And speaking of which.. when are YOU getting online? You, Me, and Meria should really get a PS/PSO disscussion going on sometime. At this rate.. I'll have to wait for TFLO to come out to get a game goin on with ya.

Yeah, I'm gettin it too. Sattelite uplink is my only choice for Broadband out here.. so it's going to cost like 1,000 for installation and another $70 a month for service after that. I got two more roomies moving in, and we all want BB - so that should knock it down to a reasonable $350 for instillation and about $23 a month for service. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
