OK, time to get a KB I think.

One problem - I'm in the UK.

AFAIK, I've got to options:

1) The official Ascii KB from Lik-Sang or similar. Could someone let me know what the layout of the keys is, please?

2) The Datel Powerboard. Again, could someone please let me know the layout and also any differences in size, functionality etc. between the two?

Thanks

I dunno about the official ASCII keyboard, but the Datel keyboard is a UK keyboard, seeing that Datel is based in the UK.

The Powerboard is UK style layout, although because it was designed off Ascii layout, some keys are misplaced. Like apostrophe is now F+7...

Other than that, it is all labelled like a normal keyboard, but not all of the keys match up. And from what I hear there is some lagginess in the time from when you press a key, to when the game recognises that you've pressed the key and the letter or symbol comes up.

Check ebay for USB -> GCN, IBM PS/2 -> GCN, or Sony PS2 -> GCN keyboard adapters, I've seen several different models over the months.

The best was the Happy Funy Box designed by someone here, it supports correct KB mapping for NA, JPN, UK France, & Germany, plus even allows four recorded macros :D

However, I don't think they're auctioning any more ... if you've got a steady hand & a local electronics shop, you could probably build one yourself from parts, I believe the design "recipe" is freely available.

Thanks all - I've seen the HFB, but I don't want an adaptor for my PC KB since I don't want to have to keep swapping it around, and if I'm going to buy another KB it may as well be a GC one.

Does the official one have the same 'lag' mentioned, or is this only a problem with the Datel one?

Also, do all the keys on the Ascii one match up as they should?

Finally, what order are the keys on the Ascii borad in - could anybody post a pic?

Cheers

Do you realise that the powerboard is basically just an adaptor that comes with the crappiest, cheapest, mass produced and nastiest Keyboard they could find.

I have a powerboard, go for the ascii.

Really they've went down in a price alot. The discomfort of having a powerboard is a lot worse than the extra money you would pay for an ascii, trust me. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

clik this text
for a large image that may take a while to load with the keys clear to see. (http://mysite.freeserve.com/mybasicuploadsite/ascii_keyboard.jpg)

(yes i know its a bit grubby, its only a blood stain above the f5 key, i might give it a clean someday)

I use the improved Happy Fun Box. It's sextacular. My only gripe is the replacement of the £ sign with #. # is not a pound.

Thanks all - especially those who posted pictures. Since the Ascii one has a normal layout (I was worried it might be alphabetical) I'll be off to order one now http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Edit: Er, are they available in any colour other than cream? Black would be nice, even if other colours are much harder to get hold of http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Whatever you do don't get the powerboard option.

This adapter: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=76&products_id=3208& is absolutely fantastic, no lag and most keys in the right place. The ASCii is nice, I have one too, but I can't use it for more than a few hours without it giving me cramps.

I would really recommend the apapter above for extended play.
