Don't quote me on this, but apparently Cube Europe have received word from Sonic Team that the servers would be upgraded once V1.0 is completely shut down. This could just be them getting mixed messages, but still....

Yesterday, Segas "Sonic Team" made the announcement that the current generation of servers for Phantasy Star Online for the GameCube will be shut down. Sega will fully replace the old system with new servers that will possibly be powered by Guinea pig instead of the old hamster-driven model.

For Phantasy Star Online fans in Japan, this means that they will need to change their old V.1 discs for the new V.1.1 model. Thankfully, Sega have given players the chance to swap their old discs for the new ones, as from the 26th of March 2004, the old version will no longer be recognised. And, to commemorate the transition from old to new, Sega will run the old servers at no cost for the week preceding the change.

All thats happening is the old Ver 1.0 servers are being shut down and all users still on Ver 1.0 will have to upgrade to Ver 1.1 unless they already did.

No new upgraded servers...just the servers we already have.

Read "Darkflame"'s comments underneath the article about X-Box live. He needs to shut his trap because he has NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL HE IS TALKING ABOUT. "The money for X-Box live goes right into Bill's wallet" my ass.

This is idiotic... this site has no idea what it's talking about. They heard that the version 1.0 servers were going down, but they don't know that basically every version released after that is already on the 1.1 servers--

The following is what Cube-Europe reports that Gamespot reports:

No news as to whether this change will affect the UK yet.

If they're anything like my guinea pigs, the servers will be down all the time because they'll just sit there looking confused. n_n

It'd be nice if the servers *were* upgraded, though...
