View Full Version : Stupid People

Read th following post and state yourr opinion on it.

In many of my posts I state how much I hate stupid people. Stupid people really piss me off. Now, most importantly, what makes a person stupid? There are many things that make someone stupid. For example, if someone has complete access to the information they want, and still asks other people to tell them the answers, they are stupid. If someone blatently states an opinion that contradicts a fact, they are stupid. If someone responds to a topic without knowing what has already been said/ or does not read the entire post and thus ends up spamming, they are stupid. People who completely ignore rules and statements made by moderators (such as the no pointless polls in general sticky), they are stupid.

Second, do not confuse stupidity with ignorance. Ignorance comes from the lack of knowlege on a subject, of which the ignorant person has not had the oppurtunity to learn about. I do not hate ignorant people because it is not their fault. However, it is within the power of everyone on this board to not be stupid. You can check other sections of the website to gather information instead of spamming a worthless question.

Unfortunately, most of the intended audience for this post (stupid people), probably didn't read the whole thing. Thus defeating part of the purpose of this topic. However, after venting some anger here, maybe I can go easy on those "special" people.

I disagree. In my opinion, stupidity is not controlled by one's self, while ignorance is completely of one's own volition. I loathe ignorant people. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Nobody can be perfect... If someone is "not stupid" in your opinion, they are bound to be stupid to someone else. It is impossible to not be stupid at all. WE ARE ALL STUPID!!!!

Now, there is a difference between ignorant and stupid.

If you're stupid, and don't know about something but you're trying to learn with effort... more power to ya for learning. If you're stupid and you don't attempt to improve yourself, then you're a moron who deserves no sympathy.

If you're ignorant on something, but intelligently say "I don't know enough to make a judgement about it", then I congratulate you. If you're ignorant on something but think you aren't because you use what the media shows you (stereotypes and media biases) to come to a decision about something, then you're a moron. The perfect example I can honestly think of (sorry for bringing sexuality in the mix) all those people who don't want gay people to marry or adopt children because it will ruin society and corrupt/gayify the kids.. Do they even KNOW anybody who is gay who is raising a child? Probably not. They're ignorant of what actually is happening, they refuse to learn what is happening but still mouth off about the subject at hand. Those are the people I hate the most.

EDIT: Boldfaced some of the text.

ignorance is not knowing something..

stupidity is not taking the time to learn something..

Everyone is ignorant of something...

If asking a question to something you should already know the answer too makes you stupid.. Then..
I dont hate stupid people, Because I am guilty and capable of being stupid...

I really dont mind answering questions people should already know the answer too..

In my opionion by them asking a question like that lets everyone in the room know how stupid they look for asking it, which really is punishment enough without me comming down on them.. By answering the question it helps strengthin and develop my own patience in my own attitude for "stupid people"..
Granted asking stupid questions may just be a result of a temporary moment of absentmindedness which i think we are all capable of...

Now if you'll excuse me.. I have to get of my horse..

Ensuing English Smartass comment:
Ignorance is simply not being aware of something, knowing little or nothing, wheras stupidity is unintelligent or foolish. Its just the way they are used in modern society that is different
End of English Smartass comment
Well yeah, other than that, I would agree with above posts on the difference between stupidity and ignorance...

PaleKid15

So, responding to a weak insult with another weak insult and a fact means I took it personally... right...

Intelligence has nothing to do with personality or ideals. I hate stupid people because they are annoying. People constantly asking stupid questions, making comments on a topic which they know nothing about, and well, beng stupid, bothers me. Especially because it is that persons fault that they are an idiot, yet everyone else suffers the consequences.

You are either an idiot, or another intelligent person with different ideas and a higher tolerance level for stupidity. Based on the reasonably intelligent conversation you have provided, you probably are not an idiot. Big givaway: you did not resort to the ever so predictable and half-witted response of "I know you are but what am I." or something similar. I suppose we can agree to disagree. I hate stupid people now and probably always will. I wish I had a higher tolerance for insolence, but I don't. The purpose for the rant section is to vent your ideas in a constructive manner. I have done so. I'm done.

Your IQ is not a measure of intelligence, but how fast you learn. I know several people with IQ's slightly higher than mine, but they are alot less intelligent. Likewise, I know several people with lower iQ than me, but they are more intelligent. Now I will be able to pick up on things faster than they will, but that doesn't change the fact that they are still smarter.

PaleKid15
Dec 23, 2003, 02:01 PM
Well, that would make it a matter of dedication. If you wanted to be very intelligent and had a high IQ, it would be easier for you because you learn faster. The reason they are smarter is that you just don't spend as much time learning as they do. I realize that doing well on an IQ test does not make you smart, but it doesn't hurt.

Intelligence tests for adults are are stupid, especially internet ones. When you are a child they test you purely on how logically your brain works without outside influence. All the tests given relate not to what you have learned, in fact you will never have had a test like it before, and could not 'win' from practice. This is the most accurate test IMO. I was tested like this as a child, and came up in the top 1% of the nation. There was a reason why I was tested. I was so far ahead of my classes it wasn't even funny, had read the school library clean of books and even voluteered in the helpers class who used to forego their lunch breaks to help out struggling students. I was the only one in this class in the first grade of junior school, the rest were in top grade. They even tried to move me up a year once, but they screwed up by putting me in a class with a very cruel teacher, and I thought it was a punishment. I was asked if I wanted to stay, and I said 'no'.

I eventually passed the 11 plus - a test we have in england to stream out intelligent children, but it's being phased out due to PC assholes who don't think people with higher capacity to learn deserve a better education. I went to grammar school, but my life is wrecked because my intelligence is coupled with the worst, most debilitating emotional conditions. I am still way above my peers in capacity to learn (this is what IQ is) and I have a savant-like ability for foreign language, my brain seems permanently set at the point that our language IQ is the highest, that of a child. But when I was being diagnosed with autism, they first of all gave me an IQ test to stream me into the brackets that define degrees of autism. Before being tested by a specialist, I was tested by quacks who have no idea of autism, and were going purely off the diagnosis records in the books that are issued to GPs. Now if you have Aspergers Syndrome, your IQ has to be average or above. But that's not the same IQ as a normal person, it's pure logic, problem solving IQ. Pure intelligence as opposed to what you have learned from non consequential matters - and autistics do not learn well in areas trhat are not interesting to them.

The trouble is, the new tests for adults test learning capacity by how much knowledge of world events you have absorbed in a lifetime. The logic tests are still there, but they also test you on general knowledge and capacity for spoken language (I stammer badly. I talk like Rainman in the company of ANY stranger). They also have those tests where you have to arrange pictures into the order they occurred. I'm crap at all this, because I'm autistic. I remember some of the questions, they were utterly retarded, like:

"Who is Martin Luther King?"

My answer - "He is uh, a civil rights leader." (he's dead. But if you say 'is' to me, my logic prosessing says 'present'.)

"List some words beginning with B" (I hated this, because I suffer from extreme self conciousness, and had the feeling any word I said would be judged. Eventually I said 'Bee'. Then I said "I don't really want to do this, I don't see the point.")

As for the putting the cartoons into order, I have very poor spacial processing, and focus on objects that are not relevant in the picture. It's like real life, when I am looking for something, I could stare right at it and not see it. Visual clues like this are nothing, I know the order of time thanks, and don;t need to place pictures in order to do it. All the cartoons were also pictures of neurotypicals doing things that are baffling and seem pointless to me, and I couldn't do it.

I ended up with an IQ in the high average. Which is the same as my sister scored in her teens. And my sister is the idiot of our family, knows she is, and doesn't care. Her capacity for learning is extremely poor, she got Ds in most her GCSEs, doesn't read, cannot formulate a story, cannot concentrate, cannot learn new things well. She doesn't even have a computer, because she is overwhelmed by them.

Why did she get a fairly high IQ then? She was tested on the adult scale with the general knowledge. My sister is hyper social. She was one of the popular, dumb cheerleader types at school. She was friendly and kind to people with it, though. But she got high marks on the general knowledge part of those tests, and flunked the logic. For me, it was other way round.

When I test myself on internet IQ tests, depending on the test, I will score anything between average to genius. They are all a crock of shit and not one single one can agree. But IMO intelligence is NOT our knowledge of world events. Most autistics are reclusive and don't give a damn about things that don't concern them, or at least are not interesting to them. I'll admit that those of us on the worst end of the scale ARE retarded, but I'll bet money that a lot who AREN'T end up being labelled as such.
See that woman who wrote Nobody Nowhere. (what's her name again? See I forgot. I must be dumb.)
I know the name of that uber successful autistic who wrote books on how to socialise, had high honours at university, had his life made and seemed happy, yet purposefully drove himself into a tree at 100 miles an hour, though. That's because at my current position (and I won't brag, but I'm successful), I can relate. I'm a sociable autistic just like him, but I'll never be happy because people make zero sense to me.

As far as stupid people are concerned, they are just bumps on your path to sucess. If you are smarter than them, then you will advance further in life. So don't pay them any mind and do the best you can yourself. Really, any of the people you listed are not worth the time or effort it takes to worry about them.

And don't rely on the IQ card too heavily. It's a big world and there's always someone better than you or someone will become better than you. This is the nature of competition, you can't be the best forever.
