Heres the forth part of the Do Hucast saga. Originally i wasnt going to add the Do Hucast part to the title, but ive decided that story ties in enough to have it in the title. I hope everyone enjoys.

(erk, stupid Microsoft Word isnt working, so im only posting the prologue now)

----------

Prologue
Thirty years have passed since 'The Crash', the term given to the destruction of Pioneer 2. The people of the Pioneer project had colonised Ragol and life was starting to return to normal for the people. Pioneer 3 had arrived six months after 'The Crash' and had helped get the people of Pioneer 2 back on their feet, but with the loss of so much technology from Pioneer 2, great rifts had started to appear in the society. Different social classes were starting to appear and the people of Pioneer 2 were being left behind. They also had to deal with the disbelief from the people of Pioneer 3 about Dark Falz, the Children of Dark Falz and the Dark Falz Cultist's existence.

Now Ragol had two different types of area covering its surface, the rural area mostly populated by the people of Pioneer 2, and the Cities that Pioneer 3 had established.

No one from the cities had complained about any incidents involving Dark Falz Cultist's or the Children of Dark Falz...

Hey, new story by Deathscythe. That is good to hear. The epoligue is obviously kinda short but still. I can't wait.

The epilogue comes AFTER the story. The one that comes before is the prologue - unless this is the epilogue from an earlier story?

Chapter 1: 'Why...?'

"Why me?"

The Racast strolled alone through the field, the sun slowly setting behind him.

"What did i do?"

His long red scarf flittered lazily behind him, brushing softly against his black and white body. It covered his mouth and ran close to the bottom of his eyes.

"I didnt ask anyone for this"

He came to the edge of the field and entered the village. A quaint little place, very low tech compared to the other towns he had visited. There was only slight traces of photon tools and equipment being used here. The Racast paid no attention to any of this.

"I didnt beg, plea or bargain with anyone"

He found the local tavern and walked on in. There was a couple of gazes from the locals, but they soon went back to their beer and friends. The Racast walked up to the counter, placed fifty meseta down and got a chip from the barmen. He then headed over to the corner of the room and sat inside the large charger, specially designed for androids of his type. He inserted the chip then seemed to shut down as the machine hummed into life.

"Ive been cursed"

If anyone had been carefully looking, they would have noticed that he hadnt plugged himself into the machine.

Three hours passed, and then there was a scream. The Racast shot back online and started to clamber out of the machine. The scream had come from outside, and was being escorted by other yells and moans. He grabbed the large pole he had been carrying and headed outside.

Boomas, lots of them. They were swarming in from the forest on the other side of the village and attacking anything that moved. There was a couple of men trying to hold them back, but they were using tools, not proper weapons, to attack the beasts. The Racast gripped the pole tightly, and with a vicious snap a blade emerged from the top to finish of the scythe. He ran forward towards the Boomas, and his first swing cut one clean in two. He swung the handle around to smash another Booma in the mouth, and reached out with his giant hand to crush a third. He fought back the swarm with the help of the village men, but they were mostly killing off wounded stragglers.

He finished off two more with one clean swipe, then spotted something out of the corner of his eye. A Booma different to the rest. It was more bulky and impressive looking, and was definitely leading the pack.

"A Giga Booma eh?" and he launched himself towards it. It anticipated his attack, and brought its claws up to block the scythe. There was a horrible grating noise as metal met claw, then the Racast broke off. He spun the scythe around in an impressive display, the brought it down under his arm, posing and taunting. He then charged the Giga Booma once more, using both blade and fist to fight it. It slashed frantically back, catching his face and tearing his scarf at one point, but he fought on. He finally smashed the end of the scythe into the Giga Boomas gut, then as it choked, brought the scythes blade down on its neck. The other Boomas then fled.

"Thank you, you saved us" said one of the men, extending his hand out to shake the Racast's. The Racast kept its back turned, trying to keep his scarf over his face.

"It was nothing. I think i should leave now"

"Dont be so modest, you saved us. Those Boomas having been attacking travellers for months now, we didnt expect an attack like that, and if a hunter like you hadnt been here...At least let me shake your hand" the man reached out again.

"No, i cant" and the Racast started to walk off. The man followed him and grabbed his shoulder to turn the Racast to face him. As he pulled, he caught the scarf and pulled it away from the androids face.

"Oh my gods! Its a Child! A Child of Dark Falz!" he yelled, stumbling back wards to get away from the Racast. His jaw was similar to that of the old Nano Dragons from the caves, with pointed teeth protruding along his lips.

"Im not..." he began to plead, but the cries and yells of the people drowned him out.

"He probably planned that attack, to get us on his good side so he could kill us!"

"Its horrific, we should kill it now!"

"Watch out, he may go into a rage at any second"

The android clenched his fists, turned and ran.

"That makes three villages ive had to leave now. Why dont they believe me, im not a Child of Dark Falz. I dont know what i am...but cursed"

[i]Chapter 2: The Wanderer[i/]

His name is D-Alpha, or at least thats what he thinks it is. It was the words printed on his armour when he awoke, and he's gone by that name ever since. He hasnt tried to find his real name, he hasnt really cared what it is, he's just tried to live his life the way he wanted to. But he wouldnt be able to. Four months ago, he started to notice changes.

It was only slight things at first, a loose plate here, some sticky substance leaking there, nothing that some maintenance couldnt change. Then there was the mouth. He had never had one before, being a MK3 styled Racast unit, and now one was starting to grow. First he could hide it, but soon it grew and became more obvious. He had to leave the farm community where he worked when one of his workmates saw him trying to hide it. The only things he took with him was his handgun and the scythe he had used in the fields.

He didnt like the changes, change was wrong for him. He was starting to become someone else, something else. Something that was no longer D-Alpha the android. And this scared him, and everyone who met him, because he could see himself becoming something everyone had learnt to fear. A Child of Dark Falz.

And now he had become a wanderer, going from place to place, only staying for a couple of days at the most. He tried to avoid the people of the towns, but if something bad was happening, he couldnt do anything but help. He couldnt let bad things happen to other people.

And now he found himself on the edge of another town...

D-Alpha passed through the main gate of the town and scanned the immediate area. A sign to his left read 'Welcome to Neerja'. He mulled this quote over in is head and figured that if they knew what he was he wouldnt be so welcome. The town was like most in this area and didnt rely on photon energy as much. A single generator pumped and groaned away in its penned off area and that was it. D-Alpha hoped that the lack of photon energy meant there was little communication between towns and people werent waiting for him...

Then something pulled at his scarf.

"Wow, an Android, Racast class. Your so cool, do you have a gun? I hear most Racasts carry big guns" said a small boy who was staring at him with awe and tugging on his scarf. He pulled the scarf out of the boys grip, stopping the kid from pulling right off and tried to answer the questions.

"Well im..." but the boy started talking again.

"Are you a Hunter then? We havent had hunters around here for awhile. You killed many monsters? Theres loads of..." then it was the boys turn to be cut off by his mother.

"Stop bothering people James, its rude" the woman then turned to D-Alpha. "Im sorry about my son, we havent had any Hunter, let alone Androids, in these parts for many months now"

"Thats ok, he wasnt bothering me too much" and with that he turned to leave, he didnt want to try and get to involved with the people here.

"So why are you here in Neerja?" the woman said before he could get too far away.

"Im...just trying to find somewhere where i can rest"

"Do you need board then? We have a spare room back at our home. 200 Meseta a night. Your free to rent it from us"

D-Alpha thought about this. He hadnt a place to stay tonight and he needed to rest his system for a bit. It was also cheap compared to what he had seen of late.

"I think i can afford the room Mrs?"

"Saara, just call me Saara. And what is your name?"

"D-Alpha"

"Come on then D-Alpha, we will show you to our home"

Saara's home was basic to say the least. One floor, five rooms in total and a strong rustic feel. But then again, this area of Ragol had once been right in the middle of the forest, so not many settlers had come here in the first place, let alone any of the Tech Engineers from Pioneer 3.

"Heres your room D-Alpha. Its a bit basic, but hopefully it will do you"

"It will be fine, i just need a place where i can recharge for a couple of days"

"Theres a small charger socket over in the corner for recharging, but it hasnt been used much, so i would be careful"

"I should be okay"

Saara turned and went back to the main living room, leaving D-Alpha on his own. He looked around the room, a bed and a sideboard being the only furnishings. He lent his scythe in the corner of the room and went over to the mirror on the sideboard, and just stared at himself. Or at least what he thought was himself. Everyday he noticed more, subtle changes on his body. He took his fingers up to his face and rubbed, noticing that the once hard metal was now become more soft and rubber like. It was in small patches at the minute, but he knew that soon it would spread across his whole face. He moved his hand down to remove his scarf, but stopped when he picked up movement from behind him. He turned quickly to see James standing at the door, watching him.

"What ya doing?" the boy said in a sing song fashion.

"Im just checking for damage, i had a run in with some Boomas before i came here"

"Did you?! I bet you killed loads of them, thats so cool!" The boy started to get excited, jumping up and down on the spot and mimicking attacks with an imaginary weapon. "Have you killed lots of monsters before?"

"Ive killed some, but only in self defence"

"I want to be a hunter when i grow up, going around the planet by yourself, killing monsters, finding treasure, it all sound so cool"

"Being by yourself isnt as exciting as you would think it is" said D-Alpha quietly.

"What?" said James, stopping his excited movements and now looking puzzled, but before he could find out his answer he was called by his mother.

"Leave D-Alpha alone James, im sure he would like to rest up and recharge a minute"

"Ok mum" he yelled back and left the room. D-Alpha left the sideboard and sat down on the bed. He pulled out a cord from his side and plug it into the charger on the wall. There was a sharp tingling sensation and D-Alpha cursed. It was hurting more and more to charge himself, and he didnt know why. He left the socket plug in and switch into standby mode to try and ignore the pain. This was one of the first time's D-Alpha ever had a dream.

Colour. Lots of it. It surrounded and engulfed him. Everything inside him told him that this couldnt happen, but other things told him it was happening to him and how ever much he tried to ignore it, it would still be there. The colour wrapped itself around him then imploded. Then the colour turned to liquid. Purple in colour, and he was floating in it. He reached out shakily with a hand, but something stopped him moving. Glass. He was in a tube. He put his face right next to the container and looked out. There were several other tubes, all in a row, all with occupants. Then someone approached the tube, and he felt pain. Then he was in another place. It was very dark, and hard to make things out. He took a couple of steps forward, then all of a sudden a large column of light struck him. Another one appeared about ten metres in front of him, and he could make out the silhouettes of two characters. Both bore wings, but both were totally different. Then something made him turn and he saw another figure bearing down on him. It raised its weapon then struck.

D-Alpha shot up from his bed and roared, both in pain and in fear. He grabbed his face and tried to get himself under control, then realised his scarf was gone. He turned and looked down, and saw James there, holding onto the red scarf, a look of fear on his face.

"James, dont panic. Im not what you think i am, im just a Racast" he said, trying to make sure the boy didnt do anything. James just looke dup at him, his face trembling.

"Its ok, im not going to hurt you, i just had some sort of..." he ran through his database to try and find a word that would make sense to a human. "Some sort of dream. As i said, im not going to hurt you"

He reached forward towards the boy, which was a mistake. The boy yelled and ran away, dropping the scarf as he fled.

"No wait!" D-Alpha yelled after him, but it was a wasted effort, the kid was gone. D-Alpha tugged his charging socket out of the wall, and picked up his scarf. As he finished wrapping it around his face, Saara entered the door way.

"What happened, i heard yells"

"Im not sure, James was here, then..."

"What happened to James?!" Saara said, rushing forward and grasping onto D-Alpha's arm. He tried to make sense of what happened, wondering why the boy was there in the first place.

"Im guessing James just got curious about how i worked, and decided to have a look. I got an electrical surge from the socket at the same time and he must have thought he had damaged me. He's probably scared that he will get into trouble, nothing big"

"Were did he run off too? Did you see?"

"He just ran off through the door, i was still plugged in, so i couldnt follow"

"Oh no, hes probably run off outside, he has some favourite hiding places around the town"

"Shouldnt be hard to find him then, we will just check those places and..."

"No, you dont understand. It starts to get very cold at this time at night. If hes run off in just his pyjamas he could make himself ill. And if we dont find him in time...He's all ive got!" At this point Saara looked like she was going to cry. D-Alpha was now starting to feel extremely guilty, he knew he shouldnt have got mixed up with another town.

"Ill find him, if you get dressed and wrap up warm you can follow me in a minute" he headed for the door way. "We will find him".

As soon as he stepped outside the door he noticed the temperature drop. Heating systems inside his body kicked in with a whirr and tried to heat up all his major components. A readout indicated that his heating systems were only working at 78% of their normal rate, which was odd. He would have to check out what that was, but he kinda already knew that it was because of his changes.

He started to search around the village, scanning different areas, hoping to get a trace of body heat. Nothing. His vision modes were picking up nothing in the main hub of the village, just background heat and people in their homes. He started to get a sinking feeling when he spotted something on the edge of the village, a warehouse of sorts.

"Have you found him?" asked Saara, who had only just managed to find D-Alpha.

"I may have. Whats that building over there?"

"Its the Village store. We keep supplies and other items there"

"Has James been known to hide there?"

"He was caught in there once, and he got a severe telling off. I doubt he would go in there again"

"Well its the only place i havent checked"

D-Alpha broke into a jog and headed towards the building, Saara following closely behind. As he started to get closer he ran another scan across the building. There was a small heat source, but it was dwindling.

"I think ive found him, how do i get into this place?"

"You cant at night, its all locked up. Theres probably a broken vent that James got in through, but i dont think either you or me would fit through that. We would have to go get someone with a key"

D-Alpha looked at the double doors on the front of the building, carefully looking them up and down. Then with one heavy movement he kicked them, easily breaking the locking mechanism and pushing the doors apart.

"We dont have time to find someone" D-Alpha's systems were indicating that the temperatures were starting to drop even more. He didnt have a clue why, and he would probably never find out, but all he cared about know was getting to James before he froze to death.

Columns of moonlight shone in through the Stores windows, giving the building a dull grey appearance inside. Rows of food, supplies and varying materials were stacked up in rows along the walls and in several isles. It was very confusing and was like walking through some sort of maze.

"James" shouted out D-Alpha in a vein hope of getting a reply. He got none. He tried it again, but it was useless. He surveyed the area and tried to find a place where a small boy could hide. There was a quiet whirr as he switched into heat vision mode and he continued his search. Something rustled above him and his attention was suddenly brought to the rafters that stretched along the roof of the building. A small plume of dust fell to the ground and D-Alpha could make out the faint heat signatures of a human.

"James, come down here. Your mothers worried about you, and your going to catch your death of cold"

Then there was fizzle of air as a photon bullet shot past D-Alpha's head.

"Keep away from me"

"Where did you get that gun? Put it down and come here before you hurt yourself"

"No, and you better stay where you are"

"James, im not going to hurt you"

"Your lying, your a monster, and all monster's hurt people"

Part of D-Alpha fell away with those words, but he persisted in his line of conversation, trying to get James down.

"Im not a monster James, i dont know what i am. But i do know im not going to hurt you"

There was another shot.

"I dont believe you, you want to get me down there so you can kill me. I told you i was going to be a great hunter and kill monsters, so i may as well start with you!"

He fired a third shot and it pinged off a canister. D-Alpha followed the noise with his eyes and watched in horror as the fuel cell the bullet just hit exploded, detonating the rest on the shelf along with it. The force lifted D-Alpha of his feet and threw him out of the building. He slammed into a wall outside and sat still for awhile. That had hurt alot more then he thought it would have and he could feel under his scarf a liquid escaping from his mouth.

"D-Alpha. D-Alpha! Are you ok. Answer me, wheres James?" D-Alpha's eyes slowly came back on to see a fuzzy looking Saara, her face full of worry. He tried to sit forward, but it hurt alot. He didnt understand that, he had pain receptors, but they were only supposed to indicate damage, not stop him from moving.

"He's inside. He tried shooting me an hit a load of fuel cells. Man that hurt" he said rubbing his neck.

"He's still inside! Quick, weve got to get him out" Saara dashed off towards the building. D-Alpha tried focusing on the building, and when his vision did finally come back online he could see that the building was ablaze. Saara was at the door, trying to get in, but the flames were holding her back.

"I cant let that boy die"

Fighting all the pain in his body he got to his feet and ran towards the building. On his way he unstrapped his scarf, he didnt want that getting burnt. As he arrived at the door he pushed Saara out of the way and pushed the scarf into her hands. She took one look at his face and stood back in shock.

"I told you James ran away because he thought he had hurt me, that was a lie. He ran away because he saw my true face. He also shot at me because of this face and the fact that he thought i was a monster. You probably think im a monster too now. But im going to prove im no monster and save him" and then he dashed into the flaming building.

The fire was spreading quickly. Flammable goods were stored en-masse here, and were now fuelling the fire quite successfully.

D-Alpha darted in, trying to remember where he had seen James. Thick smoke block his view of most of the Store, but he could just about make out the fact that two of the support beams had fallen and were now being eaten by the flames.

"James, if your ok call back to me"

There was a whimpering and a very low cry. D-Alpha followed the noise to where James was laying, his legs and body trapped under some of the fallen shelves. As the boy saw D-Alpha he covered his head and whimpered more.

"I told you i wasnt going to hurt you James, im going to get you out of here" the Android then placed his hands under the fallen shelves and started to lift them away from James legs. He could lift the shelves a bit, but fallen timbers were forcing them down.

"Pull your legs out now James, i dont think i can lift this all the way up" the boy did as he was told, and just as he pulled his feet out D-Alpha was forced to drop the shelves. D-Alpha turned to check if the boy was all right, but again he found James cowering from him.

"Dont worry, how many times am i going to have to tell you that im not going to hurt you"

"But your a monster"

"I may look horrific to you James, but i am no monster. You should never judge people by there physical appearance. Would a monster have risked his life to come back in here and save you?"

The boy thought about this and tried not to meet D-Alpha's gaze.

"Come on, were going to get out of here"

Outside a large group of people had began to build up. Some were panicking, worrying over the loss of all the stuff in the store, while others were trying work out a plan to put the flames out. Saara was just worrying about the safety of her child.

There was a loud creaking sound, and the final timbers in the roof gave in, and the ceiling collapsed. The entire crowd turned and gasped.

"No!" screamed Saara and she burst into tears. Then, just as she started to fear the worse, a large silhouette appeared at the door frame. D-Alpha walked out of the inferno, slightly steaming, carrying a soot covered James in his arms. Saara ran forward and grabbed her boy, cradling him in her arms and stroking his head.

"Im ok Mum, im not a little kid anymore, and D-Alpha saved me"

The crowd, who were initially glad that James was ok, turned there attentions towards D-Alpha.

D-Alpha already knew what the reaction of the people would be to him and tried to leave, but the crowd was already starting to circle him. Some of them looked like retired Hunters who were still willing to put up a fight.

"Your a Child of Dark Falz arent you. I remember hearing about your kind when i was a child, how it was your lots fault that Pioneer 2 crashed. And now you come to our village and burn our store down? I think we should kill you now" said a burly man at the front of the crowd. D-Alpha just stared at him, and then started to push by him.

"Dont think your going to get away, beast!" The man drew a saber and prepared to strike D-Alpha down. There was a flurry of movement and then the man was laying on the ground, D-Alpha's left hand holding the mans saber hand, the right hand clutching the mans throat.

"I dont want to kill you, but i can" growled D-Alpha as he was perched over the man. "I did not burn that building down, i went in to save that child, but are you all to blind and ignorant to see that?! I am not a beast, i am not a Child of Dark Falz! I hold no allegiance to anyone. I will leave your village now, but if anyone follows and attacks me, i will kill them" He got off of the man, giving him a bit of an extra push, and stormed off through the crowd. The people of the village did nothing but part to let him through.

D-Alpha turned a corner, out of the view of the people, then punched the wall with his fist. Again his good intentions had been overlooked and he was forced to flee another place. He rubbed his face and brought his hands away from his mouth. There was a purple substance covering his hands and further probing indicated that the source was his mouth. D-Alpha had never seen his own blood before, maybe because he never had it before.

He quickly got himself back to Saara and James' home and retrieved his stuff. He dropped the meseta he owed Saara on the table and hefted his scythe over his shoulder. As he was beginning to leave, the door slowly swung open to reveal Saara.

"Ive left your home as it is and paid my board. I will leave and not bother you people anymore" He tried to leave, but Saara blocked the doorway.

"Are you a Child of Dark Falz, D-Alpha?"

"No"

"Then what are you? Why do you look like that?"

D-Alpha clenched his fist's tightly.

"I dont know. I dont know what i am, i dont know why i am like this. All i know is that i am me, nothing can change that. Now please may i leave before i cause anymore trouble"

Saara nodded and stood out of his way. As he slowly fled into the night, Saara's voice stopped him once more.

"You dont want to leave this behind" she had to stand on her tip toes to do it, but she still put D-Alpha's scarf around his face.

"Thank you for saving my boy D-Alpha, i greatly appreciate it. I can see that you are not a beast"

D-Alpha smiled under his scarf, then resumed walking into the night. He never did return to that village, and Saara and James never saw him again. But two weeks after he left, a cowled man knocked a Saara's door...

*sigh* Check for updates next week. Just kinda had a thing happen to me and my girlfriend, so im not exactly up in the writing mood at the moment. I have been editing the previous chapters though, but mostly for spelling errors and slight changes in context (kept messing up town and village, but that will soon be sorted).

Alos, im going to try and fit the other characters into the story at some point, its just how im going to do it thats bothering me. Some ideas ive had i may use, but sometimes they feel a bit forced. Ill just have to see what turns up.

Later.

hmm, my thoughts on the story: D-alpha is really kireek (yes i know hes a racast, but im sure theres some way to explain it) that would kinda explain it cause d-alpha kinda sounds like a project name and theres the D-cells thing. another thing is that he uses a scythe. anyway, im guessing that he memory was wiped when montague transported him down to ragol. just my 2 cents

D-alpha stands for Deathscythe Alpha doesn't it? Oh well...

I really like this, maybe because i'm into stories of misunderstanding and inequality.

D-Alpha was originally my shorter name when playing on PSO all those years ago (when i realised anime names were way to populer for names and got you looked down upon, i was so niave) but in the fan fic it stands for...mwahaha, like im going to tell you yet http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif All will be revealed though.

Oh, and as a small side note, i know the black and white racast using a scythe thing can so look like im ripping off Deathscythe thats is un funny, but it became totally un-intentional in the end. After playing as a humar for nearly a year, my Racast character kinda swerved into the area of still using melee weapons, and scythes are just so damn cool.

Chapter 2: Someone Like Me

"Hyaaaaa!"

Two months had passed since the incident at Neerja. D-Alpha had spent most of this time on his own, giving any towns or villages a wide birth. At one point he had found an abandoned house on his travels. It looked like it had belonged to a Hunter, and a Hunter who hadnt come back from a mission several years ago. He had stopped there for awhile, sorting out his equipment and his personal belongings. He had added some leather latches to his scarf, to stop it being pulled off so easily, and had also found a leather bandelier, which he was now wearing strapped around his torso. He figured it was easier to carry his scythe with this, and he could also carry other useful things he came across.

"Graaaaaaa!"

He had left the house in relatively the same way as he had found it. He knew that sooner or later another Hunter would come across it and probably use it for the same reason as he had done.

"Nngh!"

He had been travelling for a couple of weeks now, with practically no problems. Until now.

"Just die you barstards!"

He had suddenly been attacked by Gibbons, and was know having a hard time fighting them off. No one knows how the creatures managed to migrate from Gal De Val Island to the mainland of Ragol, but the Gibbons hadnt taken long to adapt to the new climate. It was an un-common sight to see Gibbons and Boomas fighting over territory, and many a Hunter had fallen foul to the ambushes these creatures set up.

There was a squelching noise as D-Alpha brought his scythe up and severed a Gibbons arm, but as that one fell back, another one attacked. It swung its large arms back and forth, pummelling D-Alpha's armour, leaving several dents. It leapt up to deliver a high blow, but found itself landing on the pointed tip of D-Alpha's scythe.

He grinned to himself and shook the body off of the scythe and turned to finish off the last Gibbon. Bit it was already upon him. He didnt remember the blow actually happening, but he remembered lying on the ground, only his left eyes working. The gibbon danced around him, shrieking and hooting. It leapt up into the air and landed on him with a cracking sound. It started to slap its arms up and down on his chest plate and D-Alpha started to gag with pain. He had noticed his torso and upper body becoming more sensitive over the past couple of weeks, and now he was feeling a new type of pain he had never felt before. He yelled in pain and anger, and with one move he thrust his arm forward and caught the Gibbons head in his hand. There was a crunch, and the Gibbons body fell lifeless to the ground.

D-Alpha slowly got to his feet while using his scythe as a make shift rest. He was in absolute agony and kept having to clutch at his chest. The Gibbon had damaged something, and he wasnt sure if he knew how to sort it out. He lent on his scythe and slowly started to move through the forest area. He walked for about two hours, each minute a minute of pain, and found himself coming to an opening. He stumbled into the field that was on the other side and slowly looked around. The people working in the fields stopped their work and stared at him, surprised at seeing an Android in such a bad shape. D-Alpha tried to take a few more steps forward, but found that he had used most of his energy trying to get here. He slipped slowly down the shaft of his scythe and just sat there on his knees. Then he fell forward and lay face first in the mud. A couple of large men approached his prone body, and then he felt himself being picked up.

The sunset shone through the window and the yellow light glinted off the shinier parts of D-Alpha's armour. He came out of a sudden daze and realised he was laying on a large metal table. First thing he did was make sure his scarf was still secured around his face, then he checked his right eye. He prodded the new lens that had been put in place, then took a quick look around the room to make sure it was calibrated correctly. The place looked like a garage, with tools and cans of oil strew all over the place. But D-Alpha also got the feeling that this place hadnt been used for awhile, as massive pools of dusts had built up on the sides and on most of the tools themselves. He looked down at the metal table to see his own silhouette being made out in the dust. He smiled at the thought of making a dust angel of himself, but discarded that thought when the door to the room opened.

"Your lucky i still had my old repair shop set up. None of the other mechanics would fix a broken android who didnt have any money to pay up front. Rather stingy of them i think myself" the man was quite old, probably about sixty. He had a large white moustache that blended into his white lab coat. The only way you differentiate between the two was through the fact that the lab coat had been stained by many years use and several different chemical explosions.

"Where am i?" asked D-Alpha as he dropped down off the table. He was a bit wobbly to start off with, but he soon got his footing back.

"Dr Lloyds Surgery" said Dr Lloyd with a big grin, quite happy to boast that he owned his own surgery.

"A surgery? Isnt that where Humans and Newmans get treated? Why on earth have you got a mechanics room here?"

"Ah, i was a Doctor back on Pioneer 2 before it crashed, and we would always have parties of hunters come in for treatment all at once. It didnt matter if they were a Human, a Newman or an Android, we always treated them. When i set up this place down here, i thought i would carry on the tradition. Not many people do the same of course, and it seems that many of the mechanics in this town rip the Androids off when it comes to the bill. But im happy to charge you the same as my Human and Newman patients" with that he handed a bill over to D-Alpha.

"100 Meseta for a new eye lens, 200 Meseta for cracks to be repaired in chest plate. 300 Meseta for Doctors fee's" read D-Alpha out aloud.

"Yep, that is a total of 600 Meseta please"

D-Alpha handed over the money straight away, and started to leave. He had to get away from this place as soon as possible. Trouble followed him, and he was willing to pay 600 Meseta to try and avoid anymore misery.

"Hey, where you going? You cant leave in the shape your in, some of the filler i used on your cracks arent fully set yet and the Gibbons that live in the forests around here seem to double in number at night. I dont think you would be wanting to fork out another 600 Meseta so quickly"

"I cant stay here though"

"Dont worry, theres a shelter in the centre of town where you can rest tonight, ill get one of my assistants to take you down there"

One of Dr Lloyds assistants did take D-Alpha down to the shelter, but as soon as she left, so did D-Alpha. There had been other people in the shelter, and he just knew something would have happened if he had stayed.

He wandered about the town for awhile, seeing what was about and if there was any quiet places where he could have stayed. It was a very busy town and everywhere was bustling. He started to feel quite low, and for some reason wandered into a bar. No one paid him any attention as he quietly slipped to the back of the building and sat at a solitary chair. He reached into one of the pockets on the bandilier and produced a photo. It was very old, and featured an D-Alpha and a young boy of about seven. They were standing in a field and the boy was grinning a massive grin. D-Alpha was just standing there, his hand resting on the boys head. D-Alpha had looked at this photo many a time, his system's memory remembered it perfectly, but he still looked at it. He just sat there, staring at it for hours.

D-Alpha didnt notice the time pass as he sat there, but eventually the barman came up to him and rested his hands on the table.

"Hey, were closed now, can you leave"

D-Alpha sighed and shoved the photo back into his bandilier. He stood up, towering over the bar keep and left the bar.

He returned to wandering the streets by himself, going from street to street, not particularly doing anything. He eventually found himself in a rather small square, a decorative statue in the middle. He strolled over to the statue and sat on its base, his chin in his hands. He calculated that he had about four more hours before sunrise, and pondered just sitting here until the sun rose. That was until he heard the noise.

To start off with it was quite muffled, but after awhile it got alot louder. It was sobbing. He followed the noise to a set of steps that sunk below one of the buildings, and then to a door. It was large and had been made to stay locked. He leant closer to the door, and the sobbing got louder. There was someone in there, but D-Alpha couldnt think of away to get in there with out making to much noise. Against every good thing in his body, he decided not to follow this up. Not for today anyway. He went back to the square and returned to sitting at the base of the statue, and quietly went into sleep mode, trying his hardest to ignore the noise.

D-Alpha came back online the next morning, still sitting at the base of the statue. He looked up at the cold stone that stared back at him and recognised it as Deuce Deckard, the hero of 'The Crash'. The statue showed him heroically fighting back an unseen enemy. D-Alpha wondered if Deuce had really done all what he was supposed to have done, or as what usually happens with tales of great heroes everything had been over hyped. He turned away from the gaze of the cold stone and walked over to the steps where he had heard the crying the night before.

Nothing. Not a sound. He stared at the door from the top of the steps but didnt dare go down there and check it. He left the square slightly bemused and curious. He knew he had heard crying, but why would someone be locked away in a town like this? What had they done to be hidden away from the world?

He strolled around the town once more, taking in the sights and sounds during the day. They werent much better then the sights he had seen at night.

The town was very crowded. The houses were packed tightly together with a horrible feeling of claustrophobia and a dingy feeling surrounded everything. They may have been relying on photon energy here more then they had in any other town, but the overall feeling of the place made it feel alot less sophisticated then any where else he had been. The people also didnt seem to welcoming. Those men may have helped him in the fields, but he wasnt shown any courtesy from anyone in the streets. The barged by him and gave him foul looks. They seemed to be as dark and dingy as the town itself.

D-Alpha found his way back to Dr Lloyds Surgery and let himself in. The waiting room was empty and the hunewearl secretary looked bored to tears.

"Wheres Dr Lloyd" said D-Alpha in a gruff voice, the town was even starting to get to him.

"Out back, but hes doing some..." D-Alpha didnt bother to let the secretary finish and just walked into the back room. It was full of bottles and vials, all containing weird liquids. Dr Lloyd himself was sitting in front of a microscope, talking to himself under his breath and making notes.

"Dr Lloyd, i need to ask you something"

D-Alpha's voice made the Doctor jump. He quickly slid the microscope back across the desk and shut his book of notes.

"Ah, D-Alpha. Back again so soon? Least you came here on your own this time. What can i help you with?"

"Do you know the square with the statue of Deuce? I want to know whats going on there. I was ended p there last night and all i could here was sobbing"

Dr Lloyd slid nervously in his chair.

"Um, i know the square, its a very popular place for people to go, that statues a work of art. But ive never heard crying there before. You sure you werent hearing an injured animal or anything?"

"Dr, an animal doesnt cry like that. Are you going to tell me whats really going on or am i going to have to make you?" D-Alpha started to advance on the Doctor, but if he was to be honest to himself he didnt have a clue what he was going to do. He was just hoping that his bluff would pay off and the Doctor would spill the beans.

"No, dont hurt me!" the Doctor squealed and held his arms up in front of his face. "I really dont know whats going on in that area, i just know some of the more unsavoury characters in this town own some property in that area. If i was you i would leave that area well alone"

D-Alpha stood down and Dr Lloyd calmed himself.

"I cant leave it alone Doctor, i have to know whats going on there. If theres someone being mistreated there i would never forgive myself if i just let it carry on" He leant on the side as he told the Doctor this, but suddenly pulled away and held his hand. He looked down at the work top and saw that he had leant on a test tube and smashed it. The palm of his hand was now bleeding from the several cuts he had received from the glass, and he saw that he had left some of it on the side. With a swift move his brushed the pieces onto the floor in a rather poor attempt at hiding it from Dr Lloyd.

"Sorry about that, i will pay for the damages" he handed over 10 meseta and left.

"Good luck D-Alpha, just dont do anything stupid" called Dr Lloyd from behind him, but the android was gone. The doctor slid of his stool and picked up a piece of test tube from the floor and inspected it under his light. A grin passed across his face.

"They have the same blood"

Jan 22, 2004, 11:39 AM
The sun was setting behind D-Alpha and giving him and the rest of the area a red tint. It was sinister in its own little way.

Once again D-Alpha was sitting at the base of the statue. This time he had positioned himself to be staring directly at the stair way that led to the door. He sat there for several hours, not moving an inch, just staring at the stair well. Eventually he heard footsteps, but didnt bother to look for where they were coming from, he just kept staring at the stair well. A man walked into his line of sight, took a quick look at him, then went down the stairs.

About half an hour passed. The man eventually came back, carrying a case that made quiet tinkling noises as he moved. As he got to the top of the stairs he stopped, seeing D-Alpha still staring at the stairs.

"Hey, who are you? What you doing just sitting there? If you know whats good for you..." the man flashed a handgun that was holstered to his belt to finish of his sentence, but he didnt get a reply from D-Alpha. The android just remained there, sitting and staring.

"Hey, im not joking. If you dont leave now and forget what you saw you will find yourself in several pieces all across this planet" D-Alpha still just sat there. The man looked around nervously, then pulled the gun and slowly crept up to D-Alpha. He placed the gun to the androids temple, but there was still no reaction. He lowered the gun, then knelt down to be at eye height with D-Alpha.

"Ah, i see now. Your in standby mode. Pff, some of you androids are so weird, just sitting about anywhere to do your charging. If i had my way, all of you lot would have been culled after 'The Crash'. Heh, its not like you lot really care whats going anyway" as the man chortled to himself, D-Alphas eyes flared into life. The man didnt even have chance to react as D-Alpha brought his heavy head forward. There was a metallic clang and the man fell to the ground unconscious.

"Some of you humans are just to ignorant"

He rummaged trough the mans pockets and located a key, then rested the man next to the statue in a sitting position. He went to go down the stairs, but a careless movement knocked over the mans case, spilling its contents across the ground. It was purple and sticky.

"Blood? Why would crooks want blood, and blood like this...?" Something felt very wrong inside D-Alpha, and he quickly ran down the stairs to the door. He fumbled about with the key in the lock and eventually got it open. The door swung open with a cliched creek to reveal a small, badly lit room. Huddled in the corner was a woman.

At least thats what D-Alpha thought at first. It was humanoid in shape, and seemed to have the same skin colour and texture as the humans and newmans, albeit a little paler in colour. But her hair was wrong. It was like one large clump of mass, with a few engravings in it to give it shape. Closer inspection revealed that it was made of a metal.

"Are you a Racaseal?" D-Alpha asked in a bewildered fashion and taking a few steps closer towards the huddled figure. But him coming closer made the figure hold her legs tighter and whimper. D-Alpha could now see that it was also wearing the same sort of armour that Racaseal's normally wore and, more disturbingly, the marks and bruises all over her body.

"You are a Racaseal, but your different, your changing. You seem to be like me"

He walked up to the Racaseal very slowly, trying to be as un threatening in his movement as possible. He crouched down next to the Racaseal and slowly reached out with his arm in an effort to comfort her. At first she winced, but as he lay his hand down on her arm, she calmed down a bit.

"Im D-Alpha, whats your name?" he said in a kind tone. The Racaseal looked up over her shoulder at him, her eyes full of tears. An Androids tears, something very rare he thought to himself.

"...Amy" she said in a weak and broken voice.

"Whats going on here Amy? Why are you locked away down here?" it was a stupid question and D-Alpha knew it. They were scared of her, how she was changing. I was the same thing that happened to him, but least they hadnt caged him up like an animal.

"I dont know. I was always helpful, i always did my jobs ok. But then i started to change like this, and then they started to treat me bad. Then they put me down here" at this pint she started to cry harder. "I dont even know why im changing, or how i can even cry like this! Why is this happening?!"

"Dont worry, your not the only one" D-Alpha tried to calm her down once again, rubbing his hand comfortably on her shoulder, he had seen humans do it to children alot when they were crying. Then he noticed something on her arm. A series of little marks, some fresh and still bleeding.

"Whats this?" he said, pointing at the marks.

"Men will come and take blood samples every so often. I dont know why, but they dont care about my feelings when they do it. They treat me bad as well, beating me for whatever small problem their having with there lives, and i cant do anything to stop them"

This made D-Alpha mad. Why would the Humans and Newmans do this? They could see she was harmless, why turn on someone when they show signs of change? Maybe they feared the fact that she was starting to look like them...

There was a clatter of feet at the door and a group of men burst in. D-Alpha stayed where he was and looked over his shoulder at them.

"What do you think your doing here? Leave android or we will take you out of here in pieces" said one of the men at the front of the group.

"I would like to see you try" said D-Alpha in a deep growl. The anger was starting to build up in him, and he could feel himself loosing it.

The man at the front of the group spat, then charged at D-Alpha. It was all over in a couple of seconds as D-Alpha got out of his crouch straight into an upper cut. One of the other men came to help his friend, but D-Alpha just knocked him aside with the back of his hand. Another one of the men went to make a move, but a voice stopped him.

"Leave it, you wont be able to stop something like that with just your fists"

D-Alpha knew the voice, and that made him even angrier.

"Dr Lloyd. So your behind this, you sick bastard. How could you do this and be so callous to someone's feelings?"

"Someone? Someone? All i see is a Child of Dark Falz, something that should have died out years ago, and something that nearly destroyed all the race's we know. It was quite lucky that i discovered this one working in my own surgery, if i had let it continue to live amongst the people of this town no one knows what could have happened. Now i have found another one"

D-Alpha clenched his fist tight. He could feel the anger spilling out of him, and he was now ready to explode.

"She worked for you and you still do this to her? How? Are you totally heartless? And what gave you the idea that she would do anything to harm anyone? From speaking to her now i dont think she could harm anything at all!"

"I can be totally heartless because i saw first hand what happened on Pioneer 2 thirty years ago! Do you think they cared when they killed all those people when they were fighting in the streets? No, i dont think so, and i didnt want to give that thing a chance to learn how to hurt things"

D-Alpha looked at the Doctor. In some ways, his words made sense. In another, they were totally wrong and biased.

"We are not the same as those creatures from thirty years ago"

"Yes you are. Once a Child of Dark Falz, always a Child of Dark Falz" There was a series of clicks from behind the Doctor, and several guns were produced. "I think ive got enough samples from the subject to continue my research, kill them both"

D-Alpha roared, the anger in him finally breaking out. He ripped the scarf away from his face, bearing all of his teeth, and charged at Dr Lloyd and his men. They managed to get off several shots, but D-Alpha ignored them as they clattered of his armour. The Doctor tried to push his way to the back of the group, but he had no chance of getting away. The men began to flee as D-Alpha got into there midst, and the Doctor was picked up by the scruff of his collar and slammed against the wall. Before he had chance to say anything a handgun was thrust between his teeth.

"What is there to stop me from killing you Doctor? Tell me! If we are all heartless killers i could pull this trigger now without a second thought!" the Doctor whimpered with fear and tried to yell, but the barrel of the gun was in the way.

"Ah, your scared now arent you. Now you know how Amy felt, terrified as she didnt know what was going to happen to her each day, being mistreated by your men" he slammed the fist that was holding Dr Lloyd against the wall, producing a plum eof dust "I dont think were the monsters, you lot are. At least we can perform acts of humanity"

He dropped Dr Lloyd to the floor, then went over to where Amy was still cowering.

"Come on, ill take you away from here" he said with his hand outreached. The Racaseal slowly reached out with one of her slender hands and touched the Racasts. He pulled her up from the ground and held her close to him, pointing the handgun at the men who were still brave enough to be hanging around.

"Dont you dare try anything, or i will put a photon bullet in you" D-Alpha growled. He picked up his scarf and, with Amy under one arm, he left the room, and disappeared into the night. Dr Lloyd remained sat on the floor of the room, visibly shaken.

A couple of weeks later, all of Dr Lloyds research was lost in a fire at his surgery. People reported seeing an unknown man around the town that day, but he had disappeared by the time the fire had finished. No one was successful at tracking him down.

Wow, another long post from me. Maybe i should start srinking them down in size? Ill start chapter 3 next week once ive managed to work out which order i want some things in.

Also, go see Lost in Translation. I dont think this film is going to make much money, whihc is a shame cause its a good movie, albeit a bit different in the way its done. Also some great shots of tokyo and a very bad rendition of the Sex Pistols 'God Save the Queen' by a japanese guy.

Chapter 3: Similar, Yet Different

D-Alpha and Amy had been walking for just over a day, and little had been said between the two. D-Alpha thought he should strike up a conversation many a time, but he always felt awkward about it. He just didnt know what to say other then the completely stupid 'So your changing too' line. Even now, as they were walking without purpose, he was trying to figure out what to say, but was beaten to the punch by Amy.

"Im tired, i need to sleep" she said weakly.

"Huh? Tired? You batteries should only be on half charge by my calculations"

"My batteries dont work properly anymore, i need to sleep like the Humans and Newmans"

She was definitely further on in the evolution then D-Alpha was. He was still relying on his batteries for his weekly charge. He bega to wonder what else was different between the two of them.

They made their way to a clearing and started to set up a camp. Because Amy was feeling cold D-Alpha built a fire. 'She can feel the cold by herself' D-Alpha noted to himself.

There was the awkward silence again as they both sat about the fire. D-Alpha knew the topic was going to come up sooner or later, so he took a wild stab in the dark and asked the question.

"How long have you been...changing for then?"

"About eleven months, but im not sure if thats accurate. I had really noticed the innitial changes, they were all so subtle"

"She started changing two months before me, perhaps that would explain the advanced changes in her' D-Alpha thought, compiling the differences in his mind.

"And you hadnt done anything to start off this changes? You never met with any Cultists or anyone like that?"

Amy looked shocked and hurt that D-Alpha had said something like that, but answered him anyway.

"No, never. It just happened. I would work in the surgery by day and rest in my home at night, i had very little life outside of that to go socialise with anyone like that"

"Its the same thing with me, the changes just turned up out of the blue, right? We're very similar, yet different at the same time" D-Alpha paused for a second, lost in a thought of his own, then continued. "How much of your original android systems and abilities are left?"

"Very few" she admitted, "I seem to have become very biological, relying on gas exchange to live and the intake of substance to keep me going. Sometimes i find some of my original functions still work, but they soon go"

"Ok. I was just wondering. Maybe you should get that sleep now"

She nodded politely, then lay on the ground and closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. D-Alpha just sat there, watching the crackling embers of the fire.

"Ill probably start going through more of the changes shes gone through in the next few months. Ill start to become less and less like myself, more monstrous each time. But if im becoming like a monster, why is she turning into something that looks like a human? Why?" D-Alpha dug his fingers into the ground, turfing up the mud. He could feel a little bit of the anger he felt back in the town, and it hurt him. He was feeling angry because of himself this time, not because of someone else. He dug his fingers deeper, then relaxed as the anger seemed to drift away. He stared over at Amy, and for some reason just doing that made the anger dwindle away.

But as he stared at her, he spotted something. On her armour that she was now wearing was a series of letters, a name. A very familiar name. D-Alpha concentrated long and hard on that name, pondering its meaning and how it tied in with him.

Chapter 4: A Third

The sun rose, the birds let out their morning calls and D-Alpha just sat still. He had been like that for about two hours, and only the sudden turning and yawning of Amy snapped him out of it.

"Is it morning already?" Amy said, rubbing her eyes. D-Alpha wasnt fully with it and just stared at her for a couple of seconds. His systems finally came back into full effect and he realised he must look really stupid.

"Yeah. Yeah it is. You ready to start moving yet?"

"Yeah, i should be. Where are we going today?"

'Good question' he thought to himself. He had never really planned his routes, he had just walked. He didnt have to explain anything to himself, he just did it. But now that he had a companion to walk with him, he figured he would have to start working things out before hand.

"Um, im not sure yet, we will probably see when we get there"

"Hmm, if your sure thats the way you want to do things"

D-Alpha stood up and stamped the remaining embers of the fire out under one of his large feet. He helped Amy to her feet, then randomly chose a direction to walk in. He didnt tell Amy that it was random.

About fifteen minutes later, someone stalked their way out of the bushes. He knelt down and ran the ash from the fire through his fingers. Still slightly warm. There was a rush of air and he was gone.

The plants in the forest whipped against their legs, rustling as they passed by them. The two talked some more, not as deep as the night before, but just trying to learn what each other had been doing during their lives.

"So what did you do before you became a wanderer?" asked Amy.

"I was a Farm Hand. Wasnt as big a farm as the one in your town, but it was still a local resource. Most of the time i just worked in the fields by myself"

"Wasnt it boring?"

"No, i liked being alone at times. It gave me time to think"

"But why didnt they get anyone else to help you?"

"I didnt want anyone. Mr Cuits offered several times, but i liked what i was doing. I also promised someone that i would teach them to work in the fields when they were old enough" As he finished his sentence he clutched at his bandelier.

"Oh" said Amy, feeling that maybe she may have said the wrong thing.

"What did you then, other then work in the surgery?" D-Alpha then said, forgetting the fleeting memory that had passed through his head.

"Um, before working in the surgery i had been teaching at a local school, but after awhile they didnt think it was right for an android to be teaching human's and newman's. They felt that we didnt have the same emotional capacity to bond with the kids and really teach them"

"Im sorry"

"Its ok, the kids would still come visit me from time to time, until they grew up of course. Heh"

"Emm?" D-Alpha remarked about the small laugh.

"I forgot how many years ago that was now, i still think that i was only doing that job up till recently, but really it was about twenty two years ago"

"We dont age like Human's do, and we dont have the strange lifespans of the newman's. We get refitted from time to time, but really we stay the same for our entire life's, at that could be infinite. Im guessing that after awhile, time just stops having a meaning to us"

Just as D-Alpha finished his sentence he felt something. In a blur of movement he spun on his heel and knocked Amy out of the way and then brought his scythes handle up to block the incoming attack. Two blades clanged on the handle and the user of the weapons bounced back in a flurry of spins. He then stopped and raised his weapons in an attack position.

At first glance the attacker appeared to be a Hucast. But if you look closer, he appeared awkward. His armoured plates didnt seem to fit him right and chains and decorated rope were used to hold them in place and as decoration. He also had several new additions added to the Hucast design model, like large wooden shoulder pads and leg guards.

"Good reactions, but whats your fighting style like?" he hissed, then launched into a second attack. D-Alpha spun his scythe in his hands, blocking each attack that was rained down in him. A quick flick of the scythe brought the butt up and it flashed passed his opponents face, the sharpen point just about touching his helmet. The two of them stood there for what felt like an eternity. The stranger broke out of this first and dropped into a crouch and rolled backwards, kicking off the ground at the end of his roll and landing on his feet, again with his swords held out in an attack position.

"Interesting. I didnt realise how well a scythe could be utilised as a weapon. But it is still a clumsy instrument"

"Who are you, why attack us?!"

The stranger rolled one of his swords in his hand, then sheathed it. He then reached up with his free and and pulled the Hucast helmet away from his face. Underneath lay a mockery of flesh and teeth, a fearsome face, an evil face.

"I am like you, a Child of Dark Falz. They call me Eta, and im here to kill you"

If D-Alpha had known how to spit at this point, he would have.

"I am not a Child of Dark Falz!" he yelled, scythe outstretched in a threatening manner.

"Then what are you? You look like one of us, you have the same traits as one of us, except it, you are one us"

The urge to spit welled up in him again.

"I am not one of you!"

"Why is it so hard to except what you are?"

"Because I know that the Children of Dark Falz are evil, murderous fiends. I am not"

"Not yet anyway"

D-Alpha inhaled heavily and his fists tightened around the hilt of his scythe. Not yet? What did he mean by not yet? He couldn?t become one of them, his morals would never allow it. But then he remembered the anger he had felt back at the town, the anger that always seemed to boil up inside him. Was this yet another part of his curse?

"Why do you want to kill me then?" he said, trying to redirect the conversation.

"Im not trying to kill you as such, just trying to persuade you. You can fall behind me and act as a subordinate, or you can die"

"I would never work for something like you, and I don?t plan to die today either"

Eta sighed. With a swift movement he placed his helmet back onto his head and unsheathed his sword once more.

"That's a shame, you showed potential. Now die quickly so I can find the rest"

Eta suddenly burst into a charge, catching D-Alpha by surprise. He caught the Racast on the shoulder with the first swing of one of his blades, the second was reflected by D-Alpha's scythe. He swore and kicked out, sending Eta backwards and pulling the blade out of his shoulder. A thick stream of purple blood started the roll down his arm.

"First blood to me" said Eta in a sneer.

D-Alpha wasnt going to give him chance to get him again. This time it was his turn to charge. With his scythe held up high he brought it down in a large arc towards Eta's head. The Hucast rolled out fo the way, then had to fall to the ground as the second swing came towards him. D-Alphas final blow came as he tried to pin the Hucast to the ground with the point on the bottom of his scythe. Eta only had a fraction of a second to roll over as the sharpened end dug into the ground where his torso had once been. He expected another attack, but it didnt come.

D-Alpha was finding it hard. The wound on his shoulder was deeper then he expected, and even though he had been able to ignore it for the first two attacks, it was slowing him down. He was now resting on his scythe, clutching the wound with his left hand, the blood trickling out from between his fingers.

"Hmm, your wound to much for you D-Alpha? Maybe i over estimated you when i thought you had potential. If a wound like that can slow you down when your not even fully a Child of Dark Falz then i wouldnt like to see what meagre wounds would stop you when you fully change"

D-Alpha didnt reply to the taunts, he just stared at Eta. Then with a quick burst of strength he launched into another attack. He went for a swing, but stupidly put himself off balance. Eta could easily manoeuvre around the attack and spun behind his back. There was a large crunch as he brought the hilt of one of his blades down on D-Alpha's back. He then stood above him, ready for the kill.

"No!"

Eta turned to the source of the scream and saw Amy peering out from behind a tree. He hadnt really paid much attention to her, D-Alpha being his main target.

"Ah, now you are truly a worthless Child of Dark Falz. You havent even tried to attack me while ive been fighting your friend. Maybe i should kill you now as an example to D-Alpha here" he looked down at the fallen Racast "Watch as your friend dies!"

He broke into another charge, blades ready and heading straight for Amy. D-Alpha felt the anger welling up in him again, and he grabbed his scythe, pulled his arm back then through it like a spear. It whistle through the air and the point made contact with Eta's side, tearing a large hole in it, before driving itself into a tree. Eta stumbled mid charge, but as he began to fall D-Alpha was upon him, grabbing him by his head. There was a sick crack as he rammed the Hucasts head into the tree. He pulled back, then did it again. He then flung the Hucast to the floor, this time it was his turn to move in for the kill.

"Go on, let the hatred flow through you" Eta said as the blood trickled out form under his helmet.

This made D-Alpha stop. He could still feel the hatred within him, that anger that made him act like an animal. He had let it out to protect Amy, and with it he had ignored his wounds and nearly beaten Eta to death. But this was not him, why was he doing it, where was this anger coming from. He turned back to the tree and watched as Amy peered out from behind it once more, a looked of fear on her face. And again, from looking at Amy, the anger started to dwindle away.

With D-Alpha's hesitation, Eta began to make his retreat. He gathered his blades and grasped at his side, trying to stem the blood flow.

"We will finish this D-Alpha, and when we do your anger will be fully flowing. Work on it" and with that he disappeared into the undergrowth of the forest.

D-Alpha stared at the spot where the Hucast had been, then fell to his knees, clutching his shoulder. He heard Amy run up to him, but he didnt look at her. The anger was turning him into something he wasnt, and he didnt know how to stop it.

Chapter 5: 'Do You Hate Them?'

D-Alpha stumbled through the forest, Amy helping him to stand. The wound to his shoulder was still open and purple blood dribbled down his black armour. Not a word was said between the two.

They just walked. Still no direction, no mission, they just kept going. Hours passed and the sun crawled across the sky until it left a pastel pink colour smeared across the horizon. The sun was setting, and D-Alpha was worn out.

"I...i need to rest" he said, pulling away from Amy's grip and falling to his knees. He placed his hand over the wound and stared at the ground.

"I thought you still ran on internal power?" Amy asked. D-Alpha didnt reply to this. Yes he was worn out, but not physically. He had enough power to keep walking through the night, but his mind was strained and the silence just let him think to much.

As he knelt there, Amy went and collected some wood and started to build a fire.

"Im sorry" D-Alpha eventually said. But this confused Amy.

"What for? You havent done anything wrong"

"For back there, during the fight"

"What do you mean? You protected me"

"Yes, but by protecting you i lost a little bit of myself"

"How?"

"By becoming that angry beast. Everytime that happens, part of what made me an android drops away and i become more like one of those...things. Those Children of Dark Falz. Thats not me, im not one of those heartless beasts, but i may be becoming one, and Eta knew that"

There was a brief silence, neither android knowing what to say.

"What made you stop?" Amy eventually asked. This question taxed D-Alpha, he didnt know how to reply. He knew it was something about Amy that made him stop, something that gave him restraint, but he didnt know what. In the end he gave the only answer he could think of.

"You"

"What do you mean?"

"I dont know, theres something about you that makes me calm down, makes me able to control the beast, but i dont know what it is"

Amy's cheeks became slightly rosey and she turned her head slightly with embarrassment.

D-Alpha eventually got around to treating his wound. He tore a piece from his scarf and wrapped it tightly around his shoulder, pulling the wound together. He wasnt sure if this would work, he was running of human anatomy, the closest thing he could find to his. He was of humanoid shape after all.

The two then sat quiet again for awhile, watching the embers of the fire. They spat and hissed on the grass then slowly died. There was something about this sad act that kept the two androids fixed on this scene. Then D-Alpha asked Amy something out of the blue.

"Do you hate them?"

"Hate who?" Amy asked, puzzled by the question.

"The Humans, the newmans, everyone. Do you hate them for what theyve done to you, for the way they hate and fear you, for the way they treat you?"

Amy blinked. D-Alpha had never seen that action performed by an android before, but other androids hadnt evolved real eyes. She kept her eyes closed for a while, then opened them to answer.

"No, i dont hate them. They do what they do because of fear, the fear of not knowing and fear of the past. They dont know what we are, we dont even know what we are, and their scared of the history behind evolved androids like us, that fact that some of us caused so much death and destruction at one time. I hate what thy did to me, and how they react to me, but i dont hate them"

D-Alpha was quiet. He hugged his legs and continued to stare at the embers.

"Sometimes...i hate them. Sometimes i hate them all, then i hate myself for hating them"

Before Amy had time to say anything D-Alpha switched himself into sleep mode. She watched him for awhile, trying to figure out and understand him. He had been kind to her, he was nice, but he wasnt kind to himself, something was torturing him inside. She stood up and walked over to him. She wrapped and arm around him, hugging him, then fell asleep.

D-Alpha dreamt again that night. A dream of the past, a dream from a photo...

Chapter 6: A Man of White

The sun once again slowly pulled itself into the sky to start a new day. The long shafts of light rained down onto the land below and forced the darkness to scurry away. Shining through the branches, one shaft of light hit D-Alpha, giving his black armour a shine. Slowly his systems kicked into action and he came out of standby mode. He looked down and saw Amy, her arms still wrapped around his body. With one of his large hands he stroked her head. She murmered and looked up at the Racast.

"Is it morning already?" she asked wearily.

"Yeah, we should get moving soon"

"Can i have five more minutes?"

D-Alpha didnt know what she needed five more minutes for. He didnt think there would be enough time to recharge anything in five minutes, but he still didnt know much about sleeping patterns. He just nodded to her and let her rest her head once again against his torso. Anyway, his systems had been acting a bit jumpy because of his wound, he seemed to be at half charge already.

Five minutes passed and D-Alpha woke Amy again. This time she was more awake and realised where she was. he quickly made her apologies to D-Alpha and got herself together ready for the days trekking. D-Alpha tried to get up, but found himself stumbling. He knelt on the ground for a second, then pushed himself up again. This time he got to his feet, took a few steps and had to rest against a tree.

"D-Alpha? Are you ok?"

His vision glitched out or a second, throwing random code and binary into his vision, then with a static 'pop' it came back.

"Im...im not sure. My systems are going on and off all the time, and vision is a bit strange"

Amy stood beside him, then pulled the makeshift bandage away from his wound on his shoulder.

"Your wound doesnt look to good, i wonder if its starting to affect your systems? I wonder if its having problems keeping up with these new wounds?"

"Im not sure. I dont think ill be moving to far though"

"I think we should get you some help, if i remember rightly there should be a town about six miles to the north"

"No! I cant go into a town" D-Alpha quickly snapped. He knew what happened when he came to towns, everything went to hell.

"Well i cant leave you like this, what happens if you malfunction? Im going to have to take you somewhere"

D-Alpha just grunted. He knew she was right, but he didnt want to risk going into another town. He didnt even want to think about how they would react to Amy, who even though she looked partially human, still couldnt pass fully because of her metal hair.

"Im going to need a hand again if were going to a town, my vision is constantly going on the fritz"

The walk to the town was slow and full of stops. Several times D-Alpha just switched off and fell to the ground, leaving Amy hanging around for five minutes while he rebooted and switched back on. It took them about ten hours to get to the town, and the sun had already set by the time they got there.

The two stumbled into the streets of a town called Glets. It was one of the few towns in this area that still fully embraced machinery and photon powered devices, but it still kept the same rustic, down trodden feel of the rest of this area. It had nothing on any of the small towns that Pioneer 3 settlers had established.

As they moved through the streets they tried to keep out of the street light, staying close to the walls and in the shadows. But this was proving to be hard with D-Alpha in the state he was in as he was swaying and stumbling all over the place. He had already fallen over a large pile of rubbish that had been discarded in the street.

"The guy should be around here somewhere" Amy said, still brushing bits of food off her shoulder. She had explained to D-Alpha that she knew of a man who lived in Glet who had a great knowledge of fixings Androids, but she had never been herself.

"Do you think we should trust this guy?" D-alpha said as he fumbled along a wall. His vision had gone down to fifty percent quality and the darkness wasnt helping it.

"Im not sure, hes meant to be a nice guy, i dont think he would do anything to us"

He's meant to be a nice guy. Yeah, how many times had D-Alpha heard of a 'nice guy' who would still turn on you at first given opportunity to save his own skin. He doubted that there was any real nice guiys left in this world, everyone was too paranoid.

Just then a door swung open and three men emerged, all slightly intoxicated from a night of drinking. As they swaggered into the street they caught a glimpse of Amy and started to whistle.

"Hey good looking, what ya doin' out in the dark by yerself?" slurred one of them. The other two sniggered as the draped themselves over each other to try and keep balance. Amy cowered slightly. She knew of men like this back at her town, and they had never been kidn to her. She took a few foot steps backwards and grabbed hold of one of D-Alpha's arms.

"Im not alone, my friend here is with me" D-Alpha treid to stand up straight and be imposing, but all he could do was get halfway up and stumble again.

"Yer hangin' out with a stinkin' droid? Pfft, all to their own missy, but i would never be seen with one of them machines. They only cause problems" It was obvious from this that they had mistaken Amy for a human, too drunk and in too poor a light to spot her clump of metalic hair.

"Come on, hang out with us" they pressed on"

"Leave us alone" D-Alpha growled. He really didnt have time for this.

"Screw you Android, im not going to take orders from your type. Come on missy, you know you want to come with us"

He stepped forward and grabbed Amy's wrist, trying to drag her along with him. Amy screamed, and D-ALpha reache dout and grabbed the man by his shoulder, squezzing as he did it.

"Let her go!" he said, his voice an even deeper growl this time. The man let go and stared at the android, an expression of terror and pain on his face. He followed the arm up to D-Alphas shoulder, then noticed the bloody bandage wrapped around it.

"What are you?" he said, bewildered. D-ALpha realised what the man was looking at and let him go. He turned and took Amy, ready to leave. But as soon as he had turned, the man pulled a knife and was ready to place it in the androids back.

"I would think again about doing that Bryant" came a voice from behind him. He then felt another blade prodding his own back. He risked a glimpse out the side of his eye and recognised the face that was behind him.

"Im sorry, so sorry. I didnt realise you were friends with them. I leave you alone. Sorry" Its surprising how quickly someone can sober up it the face of fear, as Bryant did. The weapon prodding him the back was then removed and he fled down the street with his two drunken companions in tow.

"Im sorry about that" said the new comer, sheathing his katana "Some people just dont take no as an answer sometimes"

"Thats ok" said D-Alpha, and he attempted to step forward, but fell to the ground mid movement. The new comer came to his side and inspected him.

"Hmm, your motor skills seem to corrupted. Looks like you ran into the right guy"

"Your the android mechanic?" said Amy, who had also moved to help D-Alpha.

"Thats me, Edward Blanc. You can call me Blanc though"

Blanc and Amy walked D-Alpha back to Blanc's home. It was a strange house, it had been built after The Crash but had an ancient feel to it. Books were piled up everywhere and trinkets and tools were just left lying around. There was a potted plant somewhere in one of the corners, but it had long been covered with junk.

They helped the android over to a table, Blanc brushing its contents off quickly, and got him to lay down. Blanc then disappeared briefly and returned carrying a box of tools and other instruments.

"So your having problems seeing and moving? Maybe something to do with your optics" he said as he put a pair of gloves on.

"Can you fix it?" asked D-Alpha.

"Hopefully, but this will be the first time ive worked on a Child of Dark Falz"

There was silence. Neither of the androids said anything and Blanc just fiddled around in his toolbox. He gathered a pile of different tools in his hands and lay them down on the table.

"What? You didnt think i would notice? Amy over there has metal hair and you bled on me on the way here. And if i hadnt noticed i would have while trying to work on you"

"So your ok with working on me? Your not going to try kill me or anything"

"Why would i bother? Your no threat to me, if you had been i would have already been dead. I work on androids to earn money to live, and your close enough to an android for my liking. Now your vision is definitely going to mess up when i do this"

There was a crack and Blanc wedge the tool under the left socket of D-Alpha's eye. He rocked the tool back and forth a bit and the glass covering of the optic started to come loose. He wedged it up a bit more, then pulled it out with his fingers. After a couple of seconds he reached back to his tools and took a scalpel. He made a few quick cuts in to the optic, then took the bloodied piece of equipment from the socket.

"Well that might be why your vision had gone, you no longer needed your optics"

D-Alpha reached to his face and fumbled the socket. There was a little blood there from where his optics had once sat, but there was also something soft and squishy there. He poked it and felt his pain receptors go wild, and decided not to do that again. Sitting up he looked around the room, trying to find a mirror or somehting that would cast a reflection. He spotted one through the piles of junk, and as he stared at it, a purple eye with a single slit for a pupil looked back at him. He didnt know what to think of this. An eye, an actual eye. Then he accidentally blinked. It was an experience he had never had before and it was strange to him. He did it a couple more times, just trying to get used to it.

"Ive changed again" he muttered to himself, then, not waiting for Blanc to go to work, grabbed the other optic that sat in his face and yanked it out. This time there was more blood, and it dripped down his armour as he sat up. But through the purple liquid another eye looked out, then blinked.

"Um, yeah. I could have done that in a way safer then that, but im guessing it's all to their own" said Blanc as he tossed his now redundant tools back into their box. This was the first time D-Alpha had got a clear look at Blanc. He was about fifty years old and was greying. He had a stubbly beard and a small pair of spectacles sat on the rim of his nose. He seemed to be well built, but his Fomar robes covered most of his body. But most importantly to D-Alpha he looked like someone most people remember form the history books, someone he had seen in stone a couple of days ago and someone his databanks could still look up.

"Deuce Deckard?"

Blanc turned to D-Alpha, a stern look on his face. Then this suddenly dissolved into a grin and he started laughing.

"Heh, good one, thats a good one. Im not Deuce Deckard. Theres no way i could have ever been the legendary Deuce Deckard"

"But you look just like him"

"If you found a potato that looked just like Deuce would you automatically claim it was him?"

D-Alpha was sure the man that stood in front of him was Deuce Deckard, but maybe his new eyes were playing tricks on him. He wasnt able to explain the force's uniform either.

He then tried to get up off the table, but as he swung his legs to the ground he crumpled over in a pile. He sat up on the floor, a little bewildered.

"Well, i solved the problem with your eyes, but it doesnt look like it fixed your balance and motor skills. Maybe you just have to wait till you get used to your new eyes before your balance gets sorted out. You two are welcome to stay here until that happens"

"Thank you Blanc" said Amy, who had made herself comfortable in an armchair while Blanc had gone to work. D-Alpha just grunted, feeling a bit of a fool for still being on the floor. But that was strange also, he didnt remember any part of his programming acknowledging embarrassment.

The night past very slowly with nothing eventful happening at all. Most of the night Blanc just tinkered with D-Alpha, opening panels, probing components, scratching his head when he found parts missing or changing into something new. This left D-Alpha feeling like a specimen for most of the night, but it let him get back to thinking. He couldnt get the resembalence between Blanc and Deuce out of his head, there was juts something about it...

A clock in the corner of the room chimed three, but Blanc continued his tinkering without a sign of tiring. D-Alpha had glanced over to where Amy had been sitting several times, and she had long ago fallen asleep. She looked so peaceful sleeping he thought. It made her look even more human.

"So what did you do before this Blanc? Before The Crash?"

"I was a hunter, a force if the robes hadnt given it away. Just living out my days making money for easy missions. Simple stuff. I stayed a hunter for a bit after The Crash, but then i settled down here, this place was in need of someone who knew how to fix machinery, and i was able to do that"

"A Force mechanic?"

"I learnt other things while being a hunter other then how to cast techniques"

The conversation died at that point, and all that was heard for the rest of the night was the clinking of tools against metal.

Chapter 7: Addition

The sunlight shone lazily through the windows and gave the room an orange tint. In the middle of the room was D-Alpha, still in the sitting position he had been in when Blanc had been tinkering with his insides. Tools were still strewn around him.

He made a low humming noise as he came back online. His system did its usual diagnostic check, making note that a few more files had corrupted or had simply vanished, and then he was ready to go. He went to get up, then realised that his vision was all black.

He stayed calm for most of it, checking his systems for whatever the problem could be. Nothing turned up. He tried switching into standby, then coming back online, but it was still the same. He began to give up and was ready to call for help, when there was a brief flash of light and vision. He sat there and tried to work out what this was, when it happened again. Slowly he brought his fingers up to his new eyes, and felt the layer of skin that was covering the orbs. He pulled one up and realised that they were eyelids. He cursed his stupidity and spent the next ten minutes working out how to keep them open and blink properly. When he had got some sort of success with this (he seemed to have a bit of a squint, but he would work it), he went to track down Amy and Blanc.

He found the two of them sitting in what could be called the kitchen area of the house. Again the room was packed full of junk. A couple of mugs on one of the sides seemed to suddenly have made a handy tool holder, and sitting next to that was a frying pan that was full of small motor parts. The cooker had been cleared off so Blanc could get to it, and at the moment he was frying eggs. Amy sat daintily on a stool next to one of the clearer sides and was eating toast.

"Your a late riser today, De" she said to him.

"De?" he said back in a quizzical tone.

"Yeah, De. Its short for D-Alpha, quicker then saying your name fully each time"

D-Alpha, or De, shrugged to himself. It made sense, and his full name was a bit of a mouthful to say.

Blanc finished of the eggs and slid them onto a plate. He leant backwards and past the plate to De. De just looked at the contents of the plate.

"Dont you eat solids yet De?" asked Blanc, who saw how confused he looked.

"Ive never eaten anything, androids dont eat food"

"Well it looks like you will be soon. According to Amy it was about this time that she started needing to eat, and you not eating anything at the moment may explain some of your weakness"

D-Alpha looked at the plate again, and poked one of the eggs. He then pulled down his scarf from his mouth, grabbed an egg between his thumb and fore finger and shovelled it into his mouth. It stayed there for a couple of seconds, then he remembered that he should be chewing, he had seen humans do it many a time. To Amy and Blanc it was like watching a dog with a toffee as De made some over the top jaw movements and noises. He finally got to the point where everything was all mashed up, then tried to master the swallowing movement. It took a couple of goes, but he eventually swallowed it and felt good about himself.

"Good?" asked Blanc, the frying pan still in one of his hands.

"Was it meant to be?"

"Heh, guess your taste buds still havent kicked in yet. You better eat the rest, were all going to need alot of energy if were going to be on the move alot"

De analysed Blanc's sentence again in his head several times, then said "Were all?"

"Yeah, Blanc's coming along with us now" said Amy with a smile.

"But why would you want to come with us?" he said to Blanc.

"Well, my skills are going to waste in this town, its just full of idiots who are still biased against androids. If i come with you two i can be of some help and study whats going on in your changing bodies. It will be a very interesting trip for me"

"You know we have no real destination. Ive just been moving from place to place randomly for the past several months. I dont even know if i will ever find a destination"

"And? Ive longed for the days when i could go out adventuring again, and this seems like the perfect chance to. Im not getting any younger"

It seemed to D-Alpha that Blanc had made up his mind and that he was coming with them. What harm would it do anyway? A knew addition to the team might be helpful, and they did need someone who could help with their repairs anyway.

He picked up the toast on the plate and proceeded to eat it in the same way he had done with the egg. He would need the energy if he was going to be on the move.

----------
Theres my typical 'dont post for awhile, then post two in two days' thing going again. And i really felt i needed to shorten D-Alpha's name down to make some sentences sound alot better. So does everyone like the abbriviated 'De'? Or does it get wierd chopping and changing between the two?

Mar 31, 2004, 12:50 PM
Blanc packed light. He threw a few personal items and toiletries into a satchel, picked up some specialised tools and attached them to his belt and was pretty much ready to go. When Amy suggested to him about a change of clothes he just laughed, remarking "A true adventurer wears his fatigues day in, day out. Your clothes should become part of your body to define you as an adventurer".

He did pick up one last item as he left the house though. As he walked through the door he reached into an umbrella stand and pulled on a strap. Attached to the strap was a pair of sword sheaths, both painted black with highly decorative images on them painted in gold. He wrapped the strap around his waist and pulled it tight at the front, revealing it to be a sword belt. After that he pulled the door closed and left.

D-Alpha was hard at work trying to think of ulterior motives for Blanc to be travelling with them. The only reason he could truly justify though was that he simply yearned for one last adventure before he was retired to a boring life in a slow town. 'This yearning for adventure may also tie in with the fact that he could be Deuce Deckard' thought De, still not dropping his stern belief in Blanc's real identity.

The three of them left the town of Glets that day, and to everyone's memory, none of them ever came back.

Chapter 8: 'Finally a Cause' or 'Scourge'

Two weeks had passed since the trio had left Glets. It had been a good trip so far, albeit a trip with no destination. The sun was out and bright in the sky, the air was clear and there was a general good vibe to everything. Blanc was busy jotting down notes as they walked, mostly on the advancement of De. In the last week alot of his armoured body had began to flake away into something that was similar to a skin, but not quite. It was black and shiny and even though it would give some when pressed on like skin, it was hard to pierce it. Blanc had made no ground on working out what it was and had began pondering if this was just a new evolutionary step that the Children of Dark Falz had taken.

Blanc had also noted down a small advancement in Amy. The large shell that used to be her hair had separated into their own strands strands. It was still trying to get its colour, but by the looks of it Amy would have a head full of mousy brown hair. To anyone looking at her now, she was a human being.

D-Alpha and Blanc were walking side to side while Amy walked on ahead. Blanc finished off his scribblings and shoved the pen behind his ear, then turned to D-Alpha.

"De, i have to ask you something"

"Nothing new has happened to me since you checked this morning Blanc. Sheesh, sometimes i think your only with me for my body" D-Alpha said with a grin. Blanc had been trying to lighten De up somewhat over the past two weeks, and now he had picked up some weird sense of humour.

"No, its not about you. Its about Amy"

"What about her?"

"Did you spot the writing on her arm? Have you read what it says?"

D-Alpha paused for a bit before he gave his reply.

"Yeah, i noticed it during the first couple of nights i was with her"

"So do you know what it means?"

"I can only guess, but i think it would explain something about me and these 'dreams' ive been having"

"So, she's..." Blanc stopped mid sentence and step at the sight that was in front of them. A large pillar of smoke billowed up into the air to the north, and to his memory there had been a town that way. He went to turn back to De, but he was already sprinting in the direction of the smoke.

De was moving at full speed, the trees and bushes a blur as he passed them, his scarf fluttering dramatically behind him. He could sense something down there at the town, something dark. He reached behind himself as he ran and grabbed his scythe. Still not breaking from his sprint he flicked the blade out and was ready to attack. As he reached the bottom of the hill and broke the cover of the forest a horrible sight lay in front of him.

There had been a town there once, but now it was a burning wreck. No building was left standing, and out of some limbs could be seen laying lifeless.

There was a crunch and a smash and D-Alpha's attention was drawn to a distinct pile of wreckage, the wreckage of a town hall. Its roof had fallen and was left at a slant. Standing on it were two figures, both fighting each other with great vigour, but one finally fell and a katana was placed in his chest. The victor the twisted the blade several times, producing a hideous grating sound, then yanked it from the corpse with a splatter of purple blood. Then with a jerk he looked up and directly at D-Alpha.

"I must draw the weak to me like flies! What a disgusting trait i have"

"Eta!"

The Hucast slid down the slanted roof and stirred up some dust as he landed on the ground. He stood up and began to approach D-Alpha, but not in a threatening manner. But this didnt mean anything, Eta was fast and could probably flick into a fighting stance at the blink of an eye.

"I see youve changed more since are last encounter, you're starting to look quite impressive. But i find it strange how the supposed first of our kind is taking alot more time to evolve then the rest"

"What do you mean by that?"

"Think about it, Alpha, the first. Its from a long dead language, but it starts with Alpha and ends with Omega. I am the seventh, D-Eta. I thought you would have clicked onto whats going on seeing as you have the seventeenth with you"

D-Alpha remembered backed to that night, to what he read on Amy's arm. D-Rho, the seventeenth. He had suspicions, but now everything was starting to become truth.

"So Amy's really D-Rho, your D-Eta and im D-Alpha. Im guessing theres others then"

"Well, there was"

"What do you mean?!"

"Well you see that still warm corpse over there, that was D-Zeta. He put up a good fight, but it was obvious from the beginning that i was stronger. Still, i didnt think i would have to level a whole town to take him out. And then there was D-Delta, Tau, Phi, Mu and Kappa. They were all easy pray. Im sure the others have taken on the same task as me and there's probably few left now. We are the coming to the last of our brothers and sisters"

"Brothers and Sisters?!"

"Heh, not like in the bio-logical way. We are from the same pack, we were all reborn into this world at the same time, so doesnt that make us like brothers"

"How could you kill them? How can you live with yourself?!"

"Because i know that at the end of this, the last one standing will hold a seat of great power next to our master. I want that seat, and no one will stand in my way!"

And with that Eta launched into a viscous attack, spinning and dragging his swords across De's face. The Racast stumbled backwards, clutching his face. Blood ran across his features, and he snarled as it ran into his mouth. Lifting the scythe into the air he charged at Eta. He brought it hard but Eta dodged out of the way. The Hucast spun around him and made a move to slash his back. But as he moved forward to strike he was met by D-Alpha's heal slamming into his face. He slid across the floor and did a quick flip to right himself and ran back into the fray. D-Alpha turned to face him, bringing his arm round to strike the Hucast. This was ducked and met with a knee to the chest, D-Alpha crumpling forward from the blow but being quick enough to devise a counter attack on the way down, bringing his head into contact with Eta's. The Hucast again hit the ground, but swiped D-Alpha's feet from underneath him, making the Racast fall aswell.

"Ergh, you've become alot more stronger too D-Alpha. This should be a better challenge then the rest of those weaklings"

"This challenge will only result in your own death Eta!"

"We shall see"

The two got back to their feet and readied themselves. Only one of them was coming out of this fight alive.

Again, Eta made the first move. He drew his second katana and the two became a blur of action as he criss-crossed them in front of himself. D-Alpha rammed his scythes hilt out in front of himself and the two swords caught it in the middle with a clunk. De pushed back slightly and grinned at Eta, then ducked down and whipped the scythe up, slamming its base into his chin. Eta reeled from the hit but swung out an arm at the same time, cracking De in the side of the head with the back of his hand. The both stumbled for a brief second, but leapt at each other as soon as they were recovered. They both ducked and weaved each other's blades, getting in quick kicks and punches here and there, but both were pretty equal. Eta had the upper hand though as D-Alpha had to pay close attention to which way both of his swords were going.

A jumping kick pushed De back towards a wall, and in retaliation he whipped the bottom of his scythe out at Eta's legs. More ash and dust was kicked up from this move, but Eta had easily jumped it and struck out with one of his katana's. D-Alpha tried to move but was to slow. There was a thunk as metal met concrete as D-Alpha just missed the blade, but had his scarf pinned to the fallen masonry. Eta was in quick to follow up an attack with his free katana, but De managed to grab him by the wrist before the metal could pierce him anywhere. He held him at arms length and stared the Hucast in the eye.

"Nice try, but your going to have to do better" he taunted. Eta growled from under his helmet and made a quick snapping action with his wrist, slapping the blade against D-Alpha's arm and making him let got. He quickly slashed horizontally, but he ducked as far as his scarf would let him. He cursed the reinforcements to the garment as they stopped it coming of to easily, whether he wanted it to or not. He brought up his scythe in defence of Eta's next blow, then reached up and tried to remove the katana from the wall. He jerked it a couple of times,, but it was stuck fast and Eta was getting ready for another attack. This time it was diagonal and De had to roll out of the way, half choking himself as he came to the end of his scarf. He looked up and saw Eta stand over him. He pointed his sword at his head and got ready to slam it down hard.

A photon bullet pinged off the wall in front of Eta's face. He turned to see Amy aiming a handgun at him, behind her was Blanc, his hands clutching onto his sword belt.

"Ah, more weak fools who want a quick death, i will happily oblige once ive finished him off"

There was another shot. This one just scraped the left hand side of Eta's helmet.

"Ill hit you next, i promise" said Amy, a slight wobble in her voice.

"I dont think so my dear Rho. You havent been well trained in the use of firearms, i can tell. Im almost positive that you were meant to hit me with those last two shots. Now let me get this over with" He replied, then slammed the sword down. He was expecting a soft, squishy thunk, but instead was met by a dry crack of cement. As he turned back to where D-Alpha was supposed to be laying he was met by a huge fist slamming into his face.

"You barstard's, you tricked me!" he said, holding his helmet. There was a large dent smashed into the left hand side of it. He stared back at D-Alpha, and realised that even though he was standing, he was still stuck to the wall.

"Well for that i am going to have to kill your friends first!"

He turned with finesse, bringing his sword down towards Blanc, but again he was met with the wrong sound. Blanc was starring at him, the blade of his own katana running down his arm in a blocking action.

"Killing me will be alot harder then you would expect"

Blanc forced Eta's blade back, then moved into an offensive stance. Eta met this with his own and they made his attack, the two metal blades clashing. While those two fought, Amy ran over to De, who was still trying to get the blade out of the wall.

"He may be a great fighter" he said as Amy approached, "But he seems to have a short attention span when somebody else attacks him"

"Are you ok?" she said, gently running her fingers across the wounds on his face, And why did he call me Rho?"

"The wounds are fine, only scratches. But it seems Rho is your real name, havent you ever seen the markings on your arm?"

She bashfully rubbed her shoulder and the small imprinted markings that sat on it.

"I was never sure what it meant. So my names Rho?"

"Its more complicated then that, but i dont have time to explain. For now, i have to kill ETA"

D-Alpha gave up on dislodging the katana and just brought his elbow down on the weapon. It snapped with a crack and De's scarf was freed. He held onto his scythe, but grabbed the hilt of the broken katana. He ran towards Eta and Blanc and yelled.

"Eta, leave him alone and fight me!"

Blanc back down at this, and Eta turned a re-focused his attention on D-Alpha.

"Come on then, i want to finish this now!" And then he broke into a run, katana held backwards ready to be swung. D-Alpha didnt move from where he was standing.

"If you want death so quickly, then so be it" and then he pulled his arm back and flung the broken piece of sword. It struck Eta in the chest, but this barely slowed him down. D-Alpha had no time to prepare himself for this now, he thought the sword would have slowed him down. As Eta got close to him he swung his katana an struck De in the side. D-Alpha grunted with the pain, and stared down at Eta, who was still holding the katana in place. The Hucast looked up at him, choked, then fell backwards, a stream of blood pouring out from under his helmet. He hit the ground with a thud, then lay still. D-Alpha stood there over his body for a couple of seconds, then fell to his knee, holding onto the blade that was stuck in his side.

De stared down at the prone form of Eta and watched as purple blood bubbled up from under his helmet. He reached out and pulled it off of his face. He was still breathing, but just barely, the blood that was currently flooding his lungs was seeing to that. Eta opened one eye slightly and rolled it to look at De.

"Erg, that...that was cowards trick. If i had fought you...fought you properly you would be the one lying here"

"Yeah, but if i had fought you properly you would have killed me, my friends and everyone else in this world. It may not have been an honourable fight, but it did the job it was supposed to"

Eta grinned through the blood, his strange assortment of teeth twisting into weird angles.

"Heh, maybe your right. But i would have still...I would have won!"

"Your right about that"

Eta closed his eye and his breathing became even more strained.

"Well now you will have to find the rest. Kill the rest of them. Find our...our master, our father! And sit... sit as his...his sid..." and with that he was gone. D-Alpha slowly pulled the blade out of his side and yelled as the last part of it whipped out. He slowly stood up and turned to his friends who had been watching on from afar.

"Collect up the bodies of the dead, we will bury them on the outskirts then burn the rest o this town"

"What about Eta?" asked Amy.

D-Alpha looked over his shoulder at the body.

"He can burn with the town"

"Then what?" asked Blanc, who was sheathing his weapons.

"We track down the rest of them, all the Children of Dark Falz, find out what they are like and put an end to them if we have to. Then we find their Master"

Chapter 9: A Short Trip Into Depression

It took them the rest of the day to bury all the corpses of the people of the town, but it only took a minute to start the fire to destroy it. D-Alpha watched on for awhile as it burnt, taking the twisted body of Eta with it. He was feeling in utter turmoil inside, but he had no way to express his feelings at that minute. He had explained everything to Amy, well, everything he knew anyway. He still could only guess what the D stood for in their code names and who had initialised all of this. She seemed to understand quite well, but De wasnt sure she was taking it all in. And in a way he didnt want to drag her into this hunt for the rest of the Children. If Eta had a feeling for blood lust that made him become so intent on killing off the rest of them maybe the others did too. He wouldnt be able to live with himself if Amy was killed by one of those things, but she deserved to know what her past was as well.

"How's your side?" asked Blanc, who had managed to sneak up on D-Alpha.

"Stings a bit"

"Not surprised, i had to put alot of stitches in there"

The two stood quietly for some time, just watching the flames lick at the sky.

"So you will try and track down the rest of your kind and kill them?" Blanc said, finally breaking the silence.

"If necessary. Look at what Eta has done here. There may be more out there who are doing exactly this, how can i let them get away with it?!"

"But dont you worry that it will make you just like him?"

D-Alpha hung his head and closed his eyes.

"Yes. Yes i do. I can see the similarities all ready. But i have no intent on joining this Master he spoke of, i just want this world to be safe for everyone to live in, even if it means loosing more of what was me in the process"

Blanc reached up and patted De on the shoulder. He then took out a pack of cigarettes and flipped one up.

"Smoke?" he offered.

"No thanks, i dont even think i can"

"Thats good, horrible habit. I only moved onto it to stop me drinking" he said as he lit one up.

"Where's Amy to?"

"She's asleep over there. Digging graves is an exhausting task physically and mentally, she just needed to get her head down and forget about it"

"We should get our heads down at some point, were going to have a long trek ahead of us tomorrow"

"Where will we be going first?"

"We will head north, theres several towns that way leading up to one of the Pioneer 3 cities. I dont know if any of the Children will be there, but you never know"

Blanc flicked away his cigarette.

"Sounds like a better plan then the one we?ve been following for the past two weeks. Ill get some shut eye now, and you better switch to standby mode at some point and save your energy" and with that Blanc left, heading in the direction of where he said Amy was. D-Alpha just sat down on the floor and continued to watch the fire burn. After awhile he switched into standby mode and all that was left was the crackle of the flames.

Mwah, i got fed up doing coursework and went into fanfic mode and did this. Everything is getting a bit low in the story at the minute, but dont worry, it wont be so depressing all the way through.

To say the trio's search was a failure was an understatement. They travelled from town to town, gathering information and following leads. These leads normally took them to dead ends. This search fruitless search lasted for two month's.

Eta had killed many of the Children already, and a couple of the others had killed each other, but they hadn't been the only killers.

The eve of the end of the second month.

Nroth. Small village in the North-East of the main continent. A place D-Alpha wished he had never come to.

The main road. All along it. Nailed to the wooden beams formed in the shapes of crosses.

D-Alpha twirled around, everywhere he looked the same horrible sight. He held his hands in front of his eyes, hoping that if he covered them up what he had seen would vanish. It didnt.

Pinned to the crosses were the bloody and beaten corpses of Children of Dark Falz and of other Androids. They all looked like they had been in pain as they had been pinned up there, but no one had shown them any remorse. A sign placed at the sign of the road left a warning; 'Androids Aren't Welcome in Nroth'.

"De, weve got to go, they dont want us here, and im scared" said Amy, trying to take his arm. D-Alpha felt her gentle touch, something he had been able to experience a lot lately as his new nervous system rooted itself into his body. But touch wasnt the only thing he had been able to feel of late as his evolution hurtled towards its end. He was now beginning to understand emotional pain.

"The Humans, they're as bad as Eta was" he said clenching his fist's.

"But you dont know what these Children of Dark Falz were like De. They could have been killers, they could have terrorised these people and forced them to take this action"

"I doubt it. It looks like the culled every Android in this village because of their pathetic fear of us. One begins to change and instead of letting the Androids action speak for them they let the action of those from the past cast a shadow over their judgement. And by the way they've left the bodies it looked like they enjoyed what they were doing"

"D-Alpha!" yelled Blanc, who had been showing some patience up to this point. "You are doing exactly the same thing by pigeon holing every single Human and Newman into bracket. Would i do a thing like this?!"

D-Alpha clenched his fist's tight. He could hear Blancs words and understood them, but couldnt argue back. He knew what he wanted to say, but there was no way to say them. Instead he fell to his knees in the middle of the road.

"De!" yelled Amy, crouching down and trying to help the Racast to stand. He didnt, he just went limp. He was defeated at this point.

"Please get up De, i dont like it here and i want to leave"

D-Alpha said nothing, he just rolled everything over in his mind trying to find something that would help him.

"Come on De, Amy is right, we need to get out of here before anyone catches you two here"

"A little late for that" called out another voice.

From the town came a group of old hunters, their cracked and dusty armour gave this away. They all had weapons, but their photon blades hadn't been turned on.

"I'm guessing you couldn't read the signs, we don't want androids here!" said the lead Hunter, a man with a bulging belly and a light dusting of grey throughout his hair.

"Were sorry, we didn't mean to trespass. Me and my friends will leave now and..." began Blanc, but was cut off by the Hunter.

"I don't think so. You and the girl can go, but that Racast must be punished, we don't want more of his kind thinking they can just waltz on into are town and after a quick apology leave"

Blanc was glad that Amy was able to blend in so well as not to be noticed as an android, but he didn't know what to do about D-Alpha.

"Why do you want to hurt him? He hasn't done anything!" yelled Amy, stretching her arms out to bar the Hunters way.

"He may not have done anything yet, but what happens if he flips out and decides to hurt people later on? Or even worse he turns into one of those Child of Dark Falz freaks!" he said, his arm outstretched and pointing at the two corpses that had been nailed up together.

With a firm hand the lead Hunter pushed Amy aside and advanced on De. Blanc stood in and moved to draw his katanas, but a fist straight to his stomach dropped him almost immediately. As he curled up spluttering on the ground, two of the hunters grabbed his arms and held him still.

The lead Hunter activated his saber and stood over D-Alpha.

"If you don't fight back we will make this quick"

D-Alpha looked up into the Hunters eyes.

"I doubt that. Your seem to be the kind who enjoys inflicting pain while hiding behind the idea that your performing some justice"

The hunter began to go red in the face and lashed out, catching D-Alpha across the face with the back of his hand.

"Shut it! You Androids have no right to tell us what we can and cant do and what we perceive as justice"

D-Alpha pushed up from the ground, leaning on his hands and regaining eye contact with the Hunter.

"Because were cold, heartless machines who have no feelings? So that's why you torture them, beat them then kill them in a slow manner? Because you think that were not human so we have no feelings"

"What i saw on Pioneer 2 thirty years ago showed that your kind have no feelings. The random slaughter, the death, the destruction. Your kind didn't care"

"So the acts of one group of Androids has damned the whole of us. You think it was only Androids who did the killing that day, but there were many Humans and Numans in that group too. And don't forget the Androids that helped fight back, like Hououza, Scion and Silhouette and even BOC who helped lead the fateful charge that allowed the Resistance to break through and stop many more being killed. You seem to forget that Androids were probably the reason you're still alive"

The Hunter lashed out again, this time kicking D-Alpha in the stomach. He hit the ground hard, springing up pools of dust.

"Don't give me your bullshit! I don't care who helped us then, all i know is that now you Androids are a possible threat and that you must be dealt with before anything bad happens now!"

Then there was a click. The Hunter turned his head ever so slightly to see the end of a gun barrel being pointed at his head.

"Leave him alone!" yelled Amy, her arm holding the gun shakily. She had a serious look on her face, but her body gave away the fat that she was terrified at what she was doing.

"Come on lady, i think your life is more important then that of this Android. Put that gun down before i have to hurt you"

Amy stood there defiantly. Her finger flexed on the trigger several times, and she was ready to shoot this Hunter. But the Hunter was also ready to stop her. He brought up his arm and pushed Amy's gun up and away, her finger shooting off several rounds in surprise. The saber was then brought up under her chin and the Hunter's face was shoved right in front of hers.

"That was very foolish of you" he hissed with a manic grin. "Now were going to have to do something about you too"

That was the Hunters mistake. Before he knew what was happening D-Alpha had already pounced. He grabbed the mans head in one of his hands and picked him up off the ground. The two hunters who weren't holding Blanc began an attack, but De lashed out with his free hand, knocking them to the ground and leaving one unconscious. The two holding Blanc just looked at each other and took a couple of steps back, still holding onto there captives.

"Dont you ever, EVER, hurt my friends!"

The hunter peered down at De's face through the gaps between the Androids fingers. He was frantically kicking out at the De, but it was all in vein.

"Why...why do you care Android?!" he said, his voiced strained.

"Because maybe im not an Android at all. Im a Child of Dark Falz" and with his free hand he slowly pulled his scarf away from his face.

The Hunter screamed and D-Alpha let him drop to the ground. He lay in the dirt and frantically tried to make some distance between him and De. He briefly turned back to his companions for help, but they had already fled at De's announcement. He then turned back to see De standing above him.

"Take those androids down from there and give them a decent burial. Otherwise i will be back and i will get my kind of justice on you!"

The three companions then left the village quietly, no words said between any of them. Behind them the single hunter frantically dug graves in a field. Several hours later a cloaked figure stood and watched him begin to put the first bodies into the ground.

Chapter 10: Dark Release

It had taken them awhile, but after all the towns they had travelled to the group finally ended up at one of the Cities of Ragol, and the biggest city at that. Pioneer City.

It had been a great achievement of the survivors to turn what was left of the original Pioneer City from rubble to something habitable, and when Pioneer 3 finally did arrive they helped finish off the renovation's. The city was mostly populated with the people of Pioneer 3 now though, with pockets of Pioneer 2 survivors living on the lower levels of the multi teared city.

The three of them snuck into the city with some ease, but moral in the group was low. After the last town D-Alpha had been acting very weird, muttering to himself from time to time and ignoring Amy and Blanc for long periods. This wasn't helped by the fact that he was going through the last stages of his evolution as the changes were constantly throwing him into fits of pain. Blanc had noted two large lumps that had grown on D-Alpha's that seem very abnormal, he was sure that even in Children of Dark Falz random lumps didnt move by themselves.

They ran down the small side streets, splashing through puddles as they went and trying as hard as they could to stick to the shadows.

"Ok, were going to have to find somewhere to crash for the night, somewhere out of the way. Then tomorrow we can try and dig up some information on any Children sightings in the city" said Blanc as he peered around a wall, making sure the coast was clear.

"Its a big City though, do you reckon we have any chance of finding any Children here?" said Amy.

"Well its always worth..." started Blanc, but he trailed off as his eyes began to follow D-Alpha's movements.

The hulking Android was walking around in a slight daze, his head held high in the air. He then suddenly tensed up and began to run in the other direction form where they had come.

"De!" yelled Amy, but her words were lost.

"Come on, we better keep up with him before he gets himself into any trouble"

Blanc grabbed Amy's arm and almost dragged her along with him as he sprinted off after De.

But D-Alpha was onto something, he could sense it. He couldn't explain the feeling but he felt drawn to it, to someone. He ran without paying any attention to the hazards about. He even ran past a patrolling Officer at on point, but just barged past the guy, not even bothering to look back encase he was being followed.

He skidded around a corner then headed down an alley. He slowed down his run into a light jog, then even stopped that and just walked. The end of the alley opened up into a courtyard and in the middle stood an Android who was just staring up. As D-Alpha approached he craned his neck to see what the Android was looking at.

"I never see them here, but every night i try" said the Android. She was a Hucaseal, but a very fleshy Hucaseal.

"What are you trying to see? Its just blackness up there" said D-Alpha, standing next to her now and staring up at the sky.

"The stars. I used to like staring at them when i was in the countryside, but now in the city i never see them, and i cant go to any of the higher levels to try or they will find me"

"You're a Child of Dark Falz as well. I could sense you somehow, i was drawn to finding you"

The Hucaseal looked down from the sky and at D-Alpha. So many of her changes reminded D-Alpha of Amy, but he could still spot parts of this Hucaseal that hadn't changed, like her eyes which were just white glass disc's.

"My name is Omikron, D-Omikron"

As the two Children of Dark Falz introduced themselves, a cloaked figure hiding above watched on. He was intrigued by the action of these two, they hadn't succumbed to hunting down and killing their brethren, they had just tried to exist. But one of their wills was weak and soon he would break. When that happened the figure was ready to make his move.

"Omikron? It's a nice name. I'm D-Alpha" said D-Alpha as he introduced himself.

"So your the first?"

"I guess so, i cant remember, i've just been told"

"Don't worry, none of us remember the whole experience, we just know of the pain of having to live as ourselves" said Omikron, trying to comfort D-Alpha, yet sombering the mood while she was at it.

"Well i'm guessing your not one of the Children of Dark Falz who wants to kill all the others then?" said D-Alpha, already knowing the answer seeing as he hadn't had any type of weapons thrust at him yet.

"That's sort of yes and no. I don't want to kill anyone, yet none of us are really Children of Dark Falz"

"Pardon?"

"Dark Falz is more like our Grandmother, our father is a totally different entity"

"I don't get..." but D-Alpha was cut off by Blanc and Amy finally arriving at the courtyard.

"We finally caught up with you. De, that was dangerous, we don't know who's around here and...um, hello?" said Amy, spotting Omikron after starting her sentence.

"Im Omikron, so you're another one like us"

"How could you tell? I've changed so much"

"Its a feeling i have, i can sense my brothers and sisters presence, and your radiating a large one"

Omikron quickly looked to the sky again, then closed her eyes and gave a weak smile.

"Oh well, and i had so wished to see them tonight. Come on, we will have to get back to my place before anyone catches us here" She walked past the group, then gestured to them to follow.

Omikron's home was really a covered over archway that lay at the base of one of the buildings, a piece of corrugated iron acted as a door. Inside there was a couple of boxes to be used as seats and some personal item's the former Hucaseal had brought with her.

"You have to live here?" said Blanc with some distaste "I thought people in the cities didn't believe in the Children of Dark Falz"

"Most of them don't" answered Omikron "But there are still some people from Pioneer 2 who live on the lower levels of the cities, and they believe in them a lot. This is the third place I've had to run to in three months"

"If you're trying to hide, why stand out in the open in that courtyard? It seems like you were wanting to be found" said D-Alpha.

"In a way i did, by my brothers and sisters. I thought if i could sense them, maybe they could sense me, and being in a more open place like that may have helped. There was also a longing to see the stars again"

"And you would risk your life for that?"

"Im sure there are things that you would risk your life for to experience again, D-Alpha"

As to answer, D-Alpha reached to his bandelier and felt the pocket which contained his photograph.

"So what were you planning to do once you met up with us? You're not wanting to kill us" asked Amy.

"I'm not sure. Maybe i should leave with you? What were your plans?"

"We were trying to track down the other Children, but there doesn't seem to be many left alive now"

"So maybe i could help you find the survivors? I do seem to be able to sense them better then the two of you"

Amy gave Omikron an evil eye. She wouldn't admit it, but she was a little jealous of her.

"That sounds good, maybe we should head off tomorrow morning" This was D-Alpha, and it surprised Amy to here him say it, he hadn't sounded so positive in awhile. It only helped to add more fuel to Amy's jealousy of Omikron.

"Thanks D-Alpha. We all better get our rest then, i think there's enough room for us all to sleep here" said Omikron, but then noticed that Blanc was already asleep in the corner.

The three Children cleared the little space what was left in the archway an attempted to get some rest.

Somewhere else in the city the cloaked figure approached a group of men.

"I understand that you fellows are interested in hunting down Children of Dark Falz. I just happen to know where three our" he said with an evil grin.

A cold wind blew through the night's air and whipped around the piece of paper in D-Alpha's hand. He stared solemnly at it.

"Couldn't sleep?" Omikron said as she emerged from the archway.

"No, not for awhile. Things just keep...happening" D-Alpha was sitting on a barrel that had been turned on its side, and despite his huge girth Omikron managed to find a space for herself to sit next to him.

"What do you mean?"

"You know, when i first left my home, i guess my family, i didn't want to blame the Humans and Newmans. I believed it wasn't their fault, that it was mine. I thought that if i left them alone maybe i could survive. I was just scared of becoming something i wasn't, i didn't want to be something evil. But now im starting to think that it is their fault, that it is their cruel nature. I never wished them any harm and i wasnt willing to cause any to them, but now..." he turned his head to look Omikron in the eyes. "I could kill them all"

"No, D-Alpha, don't think that. If you start letting these dark thoughts into your head you will start to become something evil. You will start to become that thing you didn't want to be!" Omikron protested.

"But the thing i don't want to be seems to be the thing they want me to be and they will force me to become it!"

"No one can force you to become something you don't want to be!" Omikron had stood up now and was breathing heavily. D-Alpha just sat in the same place, staring at his photo once again.

"What is that?" she asked as she calmed down a bit.

"A photo of my family" a faint smile appeared on his face as he said it, but drifted away soon after.

Before either of them could say anything else there was a sudden gun shot that drew their attention to the end of the street. A large group of men had gathered, about ten or twelve.

"He was right, there's two of the barstards here"

D-Alpha snarled and bared his teeth at the men. He stuffed the photograph back into his bandelier then drew his scythe.

"See what i mean? Everywhere i go, people like this seem to get a whiff of me and are automatically out for my blood. They want me to turn! I will grant their wish"

"No D-Alpha, not like this. We can get away"

"And if we escape they will still try and track us down. And when they find us we will have to flee again and this will just repeat. They won't leave us alone"

"No, we can work something out. Amy! Blanc! We've got a problem"

Amy and Blanc emerged from the archway, slightly blurry eyed. The sight of the large group waiting for them was quite an eye opener.

"De, trouble really does follow you" joked Blanc, but it was the wrong time to make one.

"Not now Blanc, we got to get out of here before D-Alpha does something serious" said Omikron, a panicked look on her face.

The group of men had been gauging what to do ever since D-Alpha had drawn his scythe. They were sure they could take the two female Children of Dark Falz (the cloaked man had told them that there was three here, one male and two female) and the old Cultist that was with them, but the one that had once been a Racast was starting to worry them. He definitely looked like he was up for a fight. When running away was seeming like a good idea, one man who had drunk to much Ragolian Vodka stood forward, the alcohol drumming up enough foolish courage in him.

"Come on, we out number him twelve men to one! We can pick off the female's afterwards" and with a hearty roar he broke into a charge. The rest of the group stuttered for a second, then joined in.

As the men charged, D-Alpha readied himself. He brought his scythe back behind him, and when he thought they were getting in range he began the swing...

But his arm jerked and he found himself stumbling backwards. Amy had wrapped her arm around his and was pulling on him.

"No De, leave them, just run!"

He felt the usual feelings he kept getting when he looked at Amy, but this time they were a lot duller, more subdued. He knew it was all drifting away from him, but he would try to cling on to as much as he could for the moment. He picked up Amy and ran, letting Omikron lead the way. She dodged and weaved in front of them and seemed to know where she was going.

"Had this escape route planned?" yelled Blanc as he breathed heavily. A manic chase through a series of streets was something no one expected just minutes after waking.

"I needed an escape route planned as i knew this would happen eventually. It has always happened before"

"So where are we heading?"

"There is an exposed sewer network in this area. If we head into them we can easily hide and wait out the night until the mob looses interest"

They made a couple more turns, blocking the route they were taking with a dumpster at one point, then arrived at the sewer entrance.

"No!" yelled Omikron and fell to her knees, staring at the large steal grating that was now covering the entrance.

"This wasn't here when I planned out this route, they must have done some work here recently" she rubbed her hands across her face and through her hair, panic starting to set in.

"What's that up there? " asked Amy, pointing at two large boxes that sat on each side of the grating.

"They look like motors to raise the grating. Probably for letting maintenance crews through. But I don't think we can manually control them from here" explained Blanc.

"But it means the grating will move? " said D-Alpha.

"Yeah, but..." D-Alpha didn't need to hear the rest. He placed Amy down, then headed over to the grating. He dug his fingers underneath it and with great effort he managed to lift it. The motors at the top of it moaned as the metal was pushed through it, but there was little it could do to withstand D-Alpha. He got it up so far and slid underneath it. Still holding on he called out to the others.

"Come on, this isn't as easy as it looks"

First Blanc slid underneath the grating. He offered to help the struggling D-Alpha, but his help was turned down. Then Amy slid under and flashed De a smile, but this was ignored. Then, as Omikron went to make her move, a photon bullet sailed through the air. It struck D-Alpha's right hand and as he roared in pain he let go of the grating, and with a whirr of gears the motors forced it down again. Omikron ran over to the grating, pushing one of her arms through in a pleading fashion, but it was too late.

The mob amassed around her, then grabbing her by the shoulders pulled her away. As she tried to fight back somebody hit her and she slid into unconsciousness.

"Omikron!" yelled out D-Alpha. He ignored the pain in his hand and grabbed at the grating, but the speed of it coming down again had driven it into the ground and jammed it up. He rattled the bars, but it was futile.

"Don't worry, you will be joining her soon" gloated one of the mob, and then rejoined the group. Then one after the other the group beat Omikron with their weapons and hands.

"No" whimpered D-Alpha, a sensation of disbelief washing over him. He watched the mob go about their sickening business. He watched the blood splash on the ground. Behind him he could just about make out the crying from Amy and the cursing from Blanc, but to him it seemed muffled. This incident justified everything he thought about the Humans and Newmans now, and the anger inside him exploded. With a great roar he threw back his head and tensed every muscle in his body. He continued to roar and the mob slowly stopped what they were doing and watched in horror as, with a sickening sound of ripping flesh, a pair of large bat like wings erupted from the lumps on D-Alpha?s back. He turned his eyes to the mob, pointed with one hand and tore off his scarf with the other.

"I will kill you all!" he yelled, and with another sick splat claws extended from his fingers.

"D-Alpha! No!" screamed Amy, but it was useless calling him now.

"Don't follow me" he said in a low tone, then reaching out with his clawed hands he ripped the grating in two.

The mob panicked and the ones at the back fled. A cocky few charged at D-Alpha, weapons raised, but as they got near him he just batted them away with his large arms, breaking bones and destroying internal organs as he did. Another man swung a halberd around his head in a dramatic fashion, then launched an attack on D-Alpha. D-Alpha side stepped the attack and punched his fist through the man. The drunken leader began to panic now and tried to run, but as he turned he felt a clawed hand land on his head.

"Help me!" he called out, but no one came. D-Alpha squeezed and his body fell limp to the ground.

D-Alpha felt a sudden sharp stabbing pain from his lower back, and turned to see one of the mob holding a saber. He turned with enough momentum to rip the hilt of the weapon out of the young mans hand, then with one powerful strike crushed the man. The rest of the mob had fled at this point and the ground was littered with bloody corpses. He walked over to where Omikron had been left, but he could see that she was definitely dead, no one living could look like that. He roared again, and with a flap of his wings he took to the sky.

As he ascended into the sky he caught sight of the cloaked figure standing on a roof. He could sense something familiar emanating from the man and gently hovered, staring at him. The figure threw off his cloak and revealed a pair of wings similar to D-Alpha's, then with great ease took to the sky to join him.

"Your true self finally revealed, my son. Come with me" the figure said. He then flew off, D-Alpha in tow.

Down on the ground, Amy watched on. She reached out her hand as D-Alpha flew off, then let it drop as he disappeared from sight.

"Come on Amy, we have to get out of here before anyone turns up" pleaded Blanc, and Amy began to follow him. But she stopped for a second and reached down for De's stuff. She picked up his scarf and held it close to her body like a comfort blanket. She then picked up his bandelier that had been ripped from his body when his wings erupted. The scythe was still slotted into its holder on its back, but as she picked it up a piece of paper fell out of one of the pockets. She picked it up and stared at the image of D-Alpha and the boy. Her eyes began to water, so she quickly stuck the photo back into its pocket and ran after Blanc. 'Will I see De again?' was the thought that kept running through her mind.

On the outskirts of the city another figure passed through a security post. But as he began to make his way through the city streets he caught sight of D-Alpha and the other winged figure flying out of it.

"Shit! I was too late"

----------

Um, yes.

*hides just encase anything is thrown at him*

Dont panic yet, that wont be the last we see of D-Alpha. Was kinda worried about posting this as i wasnt sure how everyone would react, and having Omikron beaten to death was kind of a bad thing to do. But D-Alpha did need somehting to finally send him over the edge, and i thought that was a strong enough reason. Dont expect anything as evil as that to happen again though, i dont think i could think of any as nasty.

Btw, 'Komm Susser Tod', a song from the End of Evangelion OST, was what i was listening to while writing this part of the fic, and seeing as it is the most depressing song ever it probably explains a bit more why the post ended up like it did.

Chapter 11: Returning to His Beginnings

Amy's head tapped gently against the glass of the window as the vehicle made its way across the muddy track. Blanc had liberated the small car during their escape from Pioneer City, sometimes being a mechanic had some other benefits.

The two of them hadn't been to sure on what to do after leaving the city. They had lost sight of D-Alpha as he had flown off, so there was little chance of them being able to follow him from there. Somehow they had come to the decision of retracing their steps, maybe D-Alpha would do the same. Or maybe that was just hopeless optimism.

They gave the town of Nroth a wide birth, but if they had driven through it they would have noticed that the crosses had been torn down and that a field of gravestones had sprung up like flowers. They would also have seen a nervous wreck of a man now keeping watch over these graves.

They did make a brief stop over at the burnt remains of the town where they thought Eta. Rain had helped some of the ash soak into the ground, but that was about the only thing that had graced it. It was quite sad that no one had come to find out what had happened to this town, and also sad that they didn’t even no the name of it. All what was left was a graveyard to mark its existence. Graveyards, why were they a sign of the Children of Dark Falz' passing?

They moved on again to Glets and spent a few days at Blancs home. Whilst there Amy decided to give herself a fashion make over. Gone was the totally unsuitable Racast armour and now she wore a tight blue top with sleeves that reached her elbows and matching shorts. They were most likely an old Hunewearl uniform, but Blanc hadn't enough money to splash out expensive stuff. To make the outfit her own however, she added D-Alpha's scarf. It sat piled up on her shoulders and was definitly too big, but she didn't care. The bandelier had also been added and with a few adjustments it snugly fitted around her torso. She now wore D-Alphas scythe with pride, waiting for the day that she could return it to him.

They then left Glets, fully stocked and ready to travel. With what little money he did have left, Blanc had bought food that should at least last the two of them a month, along with some medical supplies. He had also spent some time to adjust their 'liberated' car, just encase someone decided they wanted it back.

Then next stop over was a weird one for Amy. She had arrived at her hometown. D-Alpha had never known its name, but Amy had known it was Minta. She had known these streets well, but now felt like a stranger. She strolled through the rows of buildings, made a brief stop at the square with the statue of Deuce to contemplate what had once gone on here. She then made her way to the surgery of Doctor Lloyd, but all she found was burnt out ruins. A dishevlled man in rags had been sitting outside, and it wasn't until she saw the mans face that she realised it was Doctor Lloyd. He seemed quite scared to see her, but became absolutely terrified when he saw Blanc standing behind her. They would get nothing from him in this state, not even the satisfaction of beating him for all the beatings he had dished out on her.

One thing that had gone through her mind when she first saw the surgery's ruins was that D-ALpha had done this as a revenge attack, and that maybe he had flown back this way and they might be able to find him. But then she realised that this damage had been done months ago, and with D-Alpha in the state he was he would never have left Lloyd alive.

The next stop helped to lift Amy's spirits, as seeing the destruction that had been left in the wake of D-Alpha's passing in every other town had put quite a damper on them. She feared that, in a way, she loved someone who only seemed to bring pain and misery, even if it wasn't their intention to cause it.

After D-Alpha's visit, the occupants of Neerja had grown stronger. There was more of a community spirit, a willing sense to help each other. It had been a big community effort to rebuild the storehouse that had burnt down, and this had brought everyone in the town closer to each other.

But this wasn't what cheered Amy up.

When they first arrived in the town and started asking their questions, all Amy and Blanc got was indecisive minds, some cursing the day that a Child of Dark Falz graced their village, some praising D-Alpha for saving the life of a child (even if they wouldn't want to be near him personally). In the end, it wasn't their questions that yielded results, but the questions of someone else.

"That scarf...Do you know D-Alpha?"

The woman who asked this question ended up being Saara, a woman Amy remembered D-Alpha mentioning, a woman who saw what he was inside rather then what he was on the outside. At first she was worried that Amy and Blanc had been bounty hunters and had claimed D-Alpha's possessions as trophies. Amy explained to her that they were friends, and then went on to tell her what had happened to De. In a way that was much worse then D-Alpha having been killed.

Saara took them back to her home, and they talked over a small lunch. Amy explained to her everything that had happened since De first rescued her and ending with his final transformation. Saara didn't blame him, she knew all he wanted to do was live and try not to bother other people, she could see that he was pushed over the edge.

As Amy's story ended, a muddied young boy barged into the kitchen. He was wearing training armour and a large grin on his face. He began to tell his mother how he had earned another Level on his Hunter's Training Licence, but stopped when he realised there was guests present. Saara told James that everything was ok and told him to go practise outside.

"It was D-Alpha that inspired him to enter for the Hunter's Training. James had thought about it, but i think meeting D-Alpha really convinced him" explained Saara, and as she told them in a proud mother way about how well James was doing, Amy smiled. D-Alpha had inspired a boy to go after greater things. Life here may have been pretty plain for James, but now he had a chance to see the world, maybe make a name for himself.

They left Neerja soon after that, and this was about the point that Amy started to doze in the passenger seat. Her head continued to bump against the glass and she started to become very irritated. She tried to lean on the seat belt in the opposite direction of the window, but let out a large curse as she head butted the dash board instead of the window. Blanc chuckled to himself.

"You ok?" he asked, a grin on his face and his eyes on the road.

"I guess. I miss being made of metal when things like that happen" she said, rubbing her forehead. She gave up on the sleeping plan and turned to look out the window. Something caught her eye and she called out.

"Blanc, stop!"

Blanc slammed his foot down on the break and the car came to a sudden stop. Amy reached into her bandlier and pulled out the photo and compared it to the scene she was now seeing.

Whoops, um, sorry about the really serious lack of updates. I have been busy moving into and settling into my new house at Uni, but was also having a big period of writers block and lack of confidence with my work. I really knew how i wanted to get the next part going, but when i sat down to it i kept having second thoughts, deleating stuff, writing it back in, deleating it again. Luckily, after a chat with one of my housemates who is also into writing, i think ive nailed the next scene. Most of it is written up, it just needs tweaking before i push it out the door for general viewing. Hoping for early this week.

Real sorry about the lack of updates. I once read somewhere that you shouldnt leave big gaps in between posts on a fan fic, as its rude to all the people who are reading your work. Thats why im really apologetic about this, as a month is a stupidly long time.

Sorry again.

D-Alpha and the young boy were the main focus of the picture, but at the moment Amy's main focus was what was in the background. There was a large field, outlined by fencing. In the distance a row of tree's could be seen, and just leaning into the corner of the picture was a barn. Amy had been holding the image in front of her, and as she took it away she could still see the same scene.

"This is his home. This is where D-Alpha came from"

Blanc took a gander at the picture and compared it to their currant surroundings, and he had to agree that it was the same place. But before he could voice this opinion, someone else spoke.

"Hey, can i help you two?"

The man was in his late twenties and well built, most likely due to performing manual labour on this farm for most of his life. He had a cheerful demeanour and a pleasant smile rested on his lips.

"Yeah, were looking for someone, we think he once lived and worked here and may have come back" said Blanc.

"We had a Steve who was a farm hand here once, but he left about six months ago and we haven't seen him since" answered the man.

"No, were looking for a Racast, D-Alpha" said Amy, stepping forward and taking the photo from Blanc's hand to show the man.

The smile that had once rested peacefully on his lips soon fled and was replaced with a bitter scowl.

"No, he hasn't been here, and if he had I would have killed him anyway. Now get off my property, I don't want anything to do with anyone who's been near that thing lately" and then he stormed off, only once, briefly, looking over his shoulder, his face still contorted into a scowl.

"Why? Why did he act like that? " Said Amy, slightly hurt by the mans words.

"D-Alpha had to leave this place once, Amy. It was probably because of people acting like that"

"But there was something different in the way that man acted. He seemed to take it personally"

Amy followed the man with her eyes, watching as he entered one of the farm buildings.

"I'm not leaving this, I want to know what happened between him and D-Alpha"

Blanc could have tried to stop her, but he knew it would have been a wasted effort, the determined look in her eyes told him that much. He just folded his arms and lent in the shade of a tree.

Amy snuck around the side of the building and slowly approached one of the windows. She glanced through it quickly and spotted the man leaning against a wall, obviously still angered by their brief confrontation. She watched as he pounded a fist against the wall, but she then had to quickly duck down as he turned in her direction. She then moved back along the building and made her way to the front door. There was no point angering him more by breaking in, if she just walked in maybe she could get the answers she wanted.

She didn't.

As soon as she had entered the house a bowel was flung at her and shattered into a thousand pieces as it hit the doorframe.

"I told you to go, I don?t want to speak to anyone who has been with that?that thing! "

"You mean D-Alpha? Why do you call him a thing? "

"If he's not a thing, then what is he? Why did he change? Why did he start to become an evil Child of Dark Falz? "

"Who said he had become evil? What did he do that made him evil? "

"He's a Child of Dark Falz, they?re all evil! "

"I'm a Child of Dark Falz, do I look evil! "

The man looked at her, tilting his head from side to side, examining every part of her.

"You can't be a Child of Dark Falz, you look human"

"We all don't change into monsters, the same way that not all of us are evil"

He sat down at a table and cradled his head in one hand.

"I was afraid that D-Alpha would harm my family. I had heard so much about how the Children of Dark Falz were the ones who hurt and killed people on Pioneer 2, and when I saw D-Alpha looking the way he did I panicked. I also felt angry at him for betraying our trust. My trust"

"Betraying your trust? "

"Thirty years ago, just after 'The Crash', my father was scouting out land to build a farm on. He found this site, but he also found D-Alpha. He was badly damaged and inoperative at the time, but my father helped to fix him up and took him into his family. I was born seven years later and D-Alpha always looked after me a lot. I remember how he would take me out into the surrounding areas, playing games with me and making sure I came to no harm. He was always there to protect me, even as I got older he still hung around me, making sure no harm came to me. It was a little infuriating, but at the same time it was nice to know that I would always have some sort of protection for my family and me. Then when I saw him changed like that I felt like he had tricked me and in the end the one who I thought would always protect me would be the one to cause me harm. I just couldn?t believe it and forced him out"

"So you were the boy in this picture"

"Took you this long to work that out? I didn't think that picture still existed, let alone that D-Alpha had it in his possession"

"It was his prize possession. I sometimes caught him looking at it during the night. He would just stare at it for hours"

"He still cared about us?"

You could see the mans regret falling across him like a shadow. He had turned a good friend, someone who was more like family, away because of a brash decision and bias misconceptions. D-Alpha had show him no evil intent or made no move to cause him any harm, but the fact that so many others like him had done so before scared the man. But were his actions wrong? If all those who had been a Child of Dark Falz were evil, how was the man supposed to know that D-Alpha wasn't? This question could be passed back and forth forever, but there would never be a straight or fair answer. And even if there was one, it would never changed what had happened.

The man slouched down at a table and cradled his head with his hands. Amy didn't know if it would help, but she tried to comfort him by rubbing his shoulder.

"So what happened to D-Alpha? Why are you searching for him if you were travelling companions? "

"D-Alpha vanished in a fit of despair. Another one of our friends was killed, and I don't think he knew how to take it. We thought he may have retraced his steps, returned to the beginning, but it seems we were wrong. But that doesn't mean we won't stop trying to find him, I care for him a lot"

"I'm sorry that I can't help, but when you find D-Alpha, tell him that Edward is sorry"

Amy smiled at the man, a friendly smile that said thanks for the encouragement. With no more words she left and met up with Blanc at the car.

"How did it go?" He asked as he twiddled with a dial on the dashboard.

"I realised that everyone can make mistakes, and it not only hurts others, but it hurts them as well" she replied.

"Getting a bit 'After School Special' there aren't we? Come on, we better hit the road again and see if we can find any news on D-Alpha"

Then, as if someone decided to reach out and help the two, the radio tuned into a station.

"...The creature has been spotted several times and has killed at least three people to date. It has been described as a black hulking beast with bat like wings, similar in shape to a Racast. It tends to strike in the eastern area of Oreale, usually in..."

"That sounds to much like D-Alpha for it not to be. Come on, it's a long trip to Oreale" Blanc said, beckoning Amy into the car. She had barely got into her seat before Blanc had put foot to peddle and was heading back in the direction they had once come.

----------

Its a short one, but i feel it wraps up the chapter in a suitable way. Next chapter we will find out what D-Alpha has been up to, or what depths he has sunk to.

Chapter 12: Bloody Redemption

The lights from Oreale lit up the surrounding forest, and this was no surprise considering the size of the city. It had been established by survivors of Puck 9, the ship that had once been the entertainment district of Pioneer 2. They put everything they had into making their, at first, small town into a place where anyone could come and enjoy themselves. As the amounts of money they were taking in grew, so did the town and its occupants. Men and woman both came to try and make their establishment the best on Ragol, but there were no major rivalries, just fun races to see who could take in more cash. Soon the town of Oreale had become a City and an entertainment’s Mecca.

Now something was tarnishing the fun with blood, and there was a high chance that it was D-Alpha.

Amy gazed on with awe as all the people bustled around her. She had never experienced a place like this. Blanc seemed to find himself comfortable straight away and strode in front of her.

"Have you been here before Blanc? " she asked as she tried to catch with him through the throng of people.

"A couple of times, mostly on business, but sometimes for fun. There’s some great bars in this city" came his reply, and with it a fleeting smile as some memories of past antics came to mind.

As they passed a newspaper stall, Blanc picked up a paper and thumbed through it, reading all the articles relating to the recent attacks. He whipped out a pen from his pocket and occasionally made notes on the back of his hand.

"Ok, it seems the creature that is attacking people has appeared mostly in the eastern area of the city, drifting towards the north eastern region. They seem to all be random attacks but… Well, the papers seem to think they were all just in the wrong place at the wrong time"

"So all we can do is head that way and hope were in the wrong place at the right time"

They moved on, sliding in and out of the crowds of people, making their way towards the north east of city. Blanc kept looking at the paper as they moved, shaking his head and tutting, something was getting to him. Amy reached out and touched him on the shoulder, getting ready to ask him what it was, but he had already begun to answer.

"There seems to be one thing that links all the victims, but I’m not sure if it makes any sense. Well, it makes no sense to me anyway. The paper says that each person who was attacked had someone else with them at the time, and none of their bodies were found at the crime scene"

"So who were they? "

A scream! Whilst lost in thought Blanc hadn’t noticed the crowd thin out into nothing as they entered the north eastern area, a part of the city that was occupied by small factories and other facilities that helped keep an entertainment industry running. Well, the food, drink and prizes had to be produced somewhere.

The scream rang out again, clearly male in origin. The two looked around themselves, trying to gauge where it had come from. There was no time for answers now.

"There! Its coming from that direction!" yelled Amy, her hearing being ever so slightly more acute then Blanc’s. She drew her gun and sped off, Blanc following behind her, unsheathing his katana as he went.

Amy thought she knew what to expect. She knew it was going to be D-Alpha around that corner she could sense it. She wanted to see a creature that was in some way still her D-Alpha. She wanted to be able to calm him down, bring him back to her. She wanted to hold him and tame this rage that had taken hold of him. She was expecting to be able to do this.

It seems great expectations lead to great disappointments.

She hit the corner with a skid, her handgun held out in front of her, but her finger not tight on the trigger, she wasn’t planning on shooting first. As the masonry past from her view she could see a man cowering on the ground and a black beast standing over him. It was D-Alpha, but not Amy's D-Alpha. This D-Alpha was hunched over and animalistic. It looked like he was using his arms for extra support, his palms padding softly but his clawed fingers making clicking sounds as they lifted and landed. His appearance had become rougher and sharp, his smooth panelling having evolved into something chitinous. The two black wings still protruded from his back, covering him like a dark cape. But if there was one thing that had changed the most since Amy had last seen D-Alpha, it had to be his face. His jaw protruded more, his now sharp teeth were fully on show and it looked like he was grinning maniacally, this impression greatly heightened by his eyes that seemed so…different to what Amy remembered.

The man scrabbled across the floor and made his way toward Amy seeking protection.

"It’s killed Heor! Shoot it! For the love of the light shoot it! " He yelled, both panic stricken and distressed. Amy continued to aim her gun at D-Alpha, but did not pull the trigger. She saw that in one of his hands he was holding a body, black blood seeping from a bite wound to its upper torso. She thought about the black blood and realised that it was not a human body he was carrying, but that of an Android.

"Why don’t you do anything? Please stop it! " the man yelled again, his face now streaked with tears. He reached out as he got to Amy, attempted to get her to move, to do something. But the beast like D-Alpha had caught up as well. With his free hand he punched the man, slamming him into a wall. There was a sick crack and blood bubbled from the man’s lips. He slid to the ground, a trail of red marking his descent. Amy stayed frozen, scared, upset.

She had expected her D-Alpha, but instead found a monster.

She still stood and stared at D-Alpha, despite the warnings that were being shouted at her. D-Alpha was advancing on her fast, but with every step he got closer the gun in her stand seemed to get lowered even further. It wasn't until he was actually on top of her ready to strike that she was barged out of the way by Blancs shoulder.

"What the hell do you think your doing?! Move, godammit!" he yelled as he deflected D-Alpha's heavy blow with one of his katana's. The metal vibrated and tried to wriggle its way out of his hands, but he juts held tighter. D-Alpha roared and tried another attack, swinging one of his arms wildly. Blanc jumped back from the first strike, ducked the second swing and stabbed upwards. The tip of the blade pierced D-Alpha's shoulder and jerked backwards with the pain. But Blanc wasnt finished. With D-Alpha of guard and his weapon free he rushed forward, bringing the hilt around and smashing it into the androids face. D-Alpha stumbled, and Blanc kicked him in the side to put him down.

"Amy! Why aren't you do anything?" he pleaded, running towards her, trying to put a little distance between him and D-Alpha. He grabbed her wrist and continued running, dragging her along.

"He...why did he kill that man?" Amy asked.

"I don't know, maybe he's fully gone, turned into a true Child of Dark Falz. It was almost pointless trying to get your hopes up on finding him sane anyway"

"But D-Alpha wouldn't do this thing, he would..."

"For gods sake Amy! He's not D-Alpha anymore, look at him!"

She did. He was dark, viscous, a killer. It wasn't D-Alpha on the outside, but what about on the inside? She wouldn't have chance to muse this over as D-Alpha had finally caught up, using his bat like wings to leap over the two and block their escape.

He first struck out at Blanc, reaching out with a clawed hand. Blanc let go of Amy's wrist quickly and slapped the huge limb out of the way with his one sword. However this gave D-Alpha the slight momentum to strike out with his other hand and slap Blanc into the deflected arm. As the other arm came to crush him, Blanc dropped to the ground, drew his other katana and pierced D-Alpha's wrists. Purple blood dripped onto his face, but he tried to grin and bare it. But at that point Blancs attack took a turn for the worst. D-Alpha had been whimpering slightly in pain, but now an evil grin was upon his face. He pushed down, forcing the katana's into his wrists. First it was juddery, but soon his hands slipped down the blades with ease. Blanc just looked on in shock. As his wrists got to the hilts, D-Alpha placed his hands around forearms and lifted him into the air. He began to pull and Blanc yelled out. It was then that the photon bullet smashed into his back.

Amy's hands shook as she held the handgun in front of her, but she still stood defiantly. She couldnt watch D-Alpha kill one of his own friends. She fired another shot, but this time it sailed past D-Alpha's head, her aim going totally to putt at this point, she was starting to shake too much. But her firing had got her the desired effect, as D-Alpha had dropped Blanc and was coming towards her. He pulled the katana's from his wrists as he advanced, throwing to them to the ground as he got close to her. He reached out and grabbed her by the neck.

'Why didnt i move? I could have dodged him easily. Am I going to die now?' she thought to herself, but an answer was already presenting itself in her mind, and she gave a feint smile at it.

D-Alpha dragged her in close to his face and snorted at her, bearing his teeth at the same time. He began to squeeze his fist around her throat.

"D-Alpha...please stop" she managed to get out. She felt his grip relax a bit, but it was still tight.

"Please dont do this De. Its not you! You wouldnt kill anyone like this!" he stared at her, then growled loudly, beginning to squeeze again.

"Ark! No...please dont De...dont do this because..." He roared at her again, but it was hard to tell if this was through hatred or confusion.

"De...I LOVE YOU!" she yelled out with her last available breath. D-Alpha stopped and stared at her. He let her go then fell to his knees, holding his skull. He roared once more, but this one sounded like a roar of pain. He fell forward, still clutching his head. Amy rubbed her next and carefully tried to approach D-Alpha. She reached out as she got close and he lifted his head. She could see tears in his eyes.

"Amy...what have i done?"

Chapter 13:

"De?"

No answer.

"De?"

Same again.

"D-Alpha?" Amy asked for a third time in a sweet, calming voice. She still got no reply.

It had been next to impossible to get out of the city, the police were swarming everywhere. Another body had been found and now they were determined to catch the creature who had performed these crimes. They only way Amy, Blanc and D-Alpha could get away was by breaking into a warehouse and hiding between the boxes. None of the lights in the building were working, but the glow of the city compensated for that. Now the three of them were hiding in a corner, D-Alpha sitting slightly apart from the other two, holding his knees close to his chest.

"De, please answer me. I've missed you, I've been desperately trying to find you, don't ignore me now"

"I..." D-Alpha began, but hushed up quickly, hanging his head away from Amy.

"Come on, tell me what it is"

"Its...hard. I can't explain, but..." he hushed up again, but this time gave out a small whimper as he did so.

"De, I know you've done terrible things, but you can't be fully blamed for them" she heard the words come out of her mouth, but she wasnt too sure that if she was right in what she was saying.

"No, im am fully to blame for this. I let it all go, I succumbed to that animal yearning inside me. I KILLED THOSE PEOPLE! All because I couldn't take it anymore" D-Alpha's voiced echoed throughout the warehouse for a couple of seconds, disturbing some birds that had been hidden in the rafters. "I should have been stronger"

Amy slid up close to De, and tried to wrap her arms around his shoulders. He shrugged away at first, but Amy persisted and held on tight, resting her head on his shoulder.

"De, your acting strong now, least you have admitted you did these things. But your back to normal now. If we stay here for the night and let things die down, we can get out of the city tomorrow. If we get as far away as possible, maybe these things will be forgotten"

"But what if he calls me again?"

"You’re his child? De, what are you going on about, your starting to loose me" asked Amy, but D-Alpha had started to close himself up again.

"For gods sake..." said Blanc, who had been keeping watch. He turned to D-Alpha and gave him the sternest look.

"Get a hold of yourself De, the time for self pity is over. You did these things, you killed those people. Someone may have told you to do it, but you still did it! Sulking about it here now isnt going to make things better" Neither Amy or D-Alpha had ever seen Blanc like this, he was so serious and you could see some of the anger he was with holding breaking through. "Now if you want to even start putting things right you need to tell us who told you to do these things and where to find them"

D-Alpha continued to hold onto himself, saying nothing to either of his companions. If he was still mechanical you probably would have been able to hear his mechanical brain working out everything, but as an organic creature all you would hear would here was his long drawn breaths. Then he slowly stood up and stared out of a distant window, the moonlight from outside giving him a blue tint.

"Kireek. He called himself Kireek"

Not that I'm complaining. I'm just happy you updated, let alone tell you how I want the story done (having Flowen would suck anyway). "Kireek? How? He died decades ago" said Blanc. The furrows of his brow showed that he was confused.

"I dont know how he's alive, I just know he is. He gave me two orders to follow; bring Androids to him to make his children and...to kill anything that tried to stop me" D-Alpha scrunched up his eyes and clenched his fist as in a single moment he was forced to remember all those he had killed.

"Why would he want more Androids? What would he do with them?" asked Amy.

"At a guess, build an army with them. The Children of Dark Falz tried to take over once before, maybe they want another crack at it" replied Blanc. He was now rubbing the rim of his nose, trying to hide the fact that what he had just calmly said had sent a shiver down his spine and scared him. A lot. He had seen it once before, he didn't want a repeat showing.

"I took at least twenty Androids to him in the time I was doing his bidding, and about half of them have nearly been evolved into full Children of Dark Falz. Once they have been fully 'Reborn', he will send them out to find more Androids, who he will then evolve to go find more Androids. This act will keep repeating itself until he has enough, then he will begin his attack. To make this right im going to have to take care of him now" said D-Alpha, standing defiantly.

"And we will help you" said Amy, standing up next to D-Alpha. He glanced at her, and she flashed a smile at him.

"You think we can take them down?" said Blanc.

"I don't know, but we can try" was D-Alpha's response. Blanc gave a short laugh and smiled.

"Sounds like you've suddenly become one for heroic last stands, De"

"No, I've become one who has realised he must do whats right"

As the three stood together in the warehouse, there was an air of camaraderie. The wanderers that had been split up, but now brought back together to fight for something. They were all set on making things right with the world, and they were all set to do it together.

The night drifted on slowly to become the early hours of the morning. Blanc had been asleep for awhile, maybe a sign of his old age D-Alpha thought. He may stand tall and act strong, but at the end of the day he was still old and needed to rest.

D-Alpha sat back against some boxes and stared at the ceiling. He was starting to accept what he had done now, but his actions would still haunt him in some way. He may be able to atone his sins to himself, but would those he killed forgive him? He didn't know, and he wondered if he should even be thinking this.

"D-Alpha" came the familiar voice of Amy. De looked down from the ceiling towards Amy and watch as she moved towards him.

"I...I was looking after these for you" she said as she unwrapped the scarf from her body and unclipped the bandelier. She knelt down in front of De and tied the scarf around him, like he had always worn it, at placed the bandelier in his hands. The first thing De did was reach into the pouch on the bandelier and check for his photo.

"He says he's sorry" Amy said to him, realising what he was looking for.

"You saw Edward?"

"Yes, whilst trying to find you"

"How is he?"

"He's ok, he's doing alright for himself. He misses you"

"And I miss his friendship. But at least he has forgiven me now" he tucked the battered photo back into its pouch and did the button up.

"I missed you as well De. I missed you more then you could imagine" she said. She lifted his chin up and stared into his eyes. Then, slowly, she lent forward and kissed him.

"Amy, I..." he began, before Amy shushed him.

"You don't have to say anything, D-Alpha" she said to him. She wrapped her arms around him and rested her head on his chest. He felt uncertain at first, not knowing what to do, but then he wrapped his arms around her. They both sat there, in each other's arms, and went to sleep.

Chapter 14: Their Final Journey

The Sun must have risen, seeing as it was no longer pitch black outside, but the thick layers of cloud and torrential rain covered up any of its rays. As it clashed against the warehouse's thin windows it seemed like a dark omen, not something anyone wanted when heading off to face a battle they were unsure of being able to win.

The three prepared themselves in silence, gathering their equipment and getting themselves ready for a fight. D-Alpha used some rope from a crate to bind his wings to his back, then covered himself in tarpaulin for a makeshift cloak. He was covered as best he could manage, hopefully with the weather like it was no one would bother checking him on the way out of the city.

They remained in silence as they left and as they dashed up the street the only noise that accompanied them was the sound of the rain. Blanc noticed how De and Amy were walking so close and smiled. She was happy now, he thought, maybe he will be too?

They hid briefly in an alley as a Police Patrol car floated by, scanning the area whilst making a strange electrical humm. As soon as it passed they resumed their escape from the city.

An hour later and they had transversed many of the back streets and shortcuts of Oreale and had found their way out of the city. The way they were heading led them along a bare road, with just fields of grass and rocks as scenery. It was actually quite calming, but the constant downpour gave it a depressing tone.

"Which way now?" Blanc said, breaking the silence. D-Alpha stopped and raised his head, looking like he was sniffing the air. He took a small turn to his right, then strolled off the road and into the short grass.

"This way" he said, and then continued walking.

They continued to walk in silence, enjoying each others company by simply being around each other. Amy still walked close to De, eventually holding onto his arm. She wasn't letting go of him again.

Grassland gave way to woodland and hills, and they kept walking. The silence had given in to idle chit chat and the group talked and laughed. It was now hard to believe they were heading off to an unknown fate. The conversation darkened briefly as Amy asked if there was anyway to free those taken by Kireek, only to answered by morbid silence. Blanc eventually brought the cheery mood back as he told them a tale of his youth and his strange drinking habits and buddies, but the thought of the fate of those they were going to have to fight remained. It would almost sound hypocritical of D-Alpha to say that there was no way to redeem the androids Kireek had taken, but there was no way he could tell if these androids would be different.

They had walked for miles, their progress unhindered by anyone or anything. But just as things started to look too easy, an obstacle arose. This obstacle happened to be a large cliff face.

"Its to smooth for us to climb, and the over hang would be way to difficult to get over. What do we do now?" asked Blanc. D-Alpha's answer? He turned and walked away. "Wait, you're not quitting because of an obstacle like this? We could try walking around it?"

"Theres no need to walk around it" he said, peering over his shoulder. Then, as he had enough room, he cut his bindings and let is wings unfurl to their full span. He gave a couple of mighty beats, blowing up dirt and leaves, then turned and reached out his hands to Amy and Blanc.

"Have you ever flown?"

And I think this fic has now hit the other one year mark of writing. Heh, I really need to pull my fingers out when im writing these things.

Bah, and I was picking up the pace so well. My University deadlines are really eating up my spare time, and with script writing, Design Document Writing, an essay on Hyperreality, a Proposal for my Final Year Project plus some sucky programming going on I really have no time at all for Fan Ficing at the mo. Oh, I will finish this fic, im determined to finish this fic! It will probably only happen after the 22nd of this month.

Sorry 'bout that guys, but you can check out my University Portfolio website if thats what takes your fancy:

http://www.newmedia.lincoln.ac.uk/pssmith/

Ok, thats a bit of a mess at the moment too. Fear my real name and real life photo in the About section! I hate that section so much, but its what the Uni wanted. Ill secretely nuke it over the summer.

Ho hum, back to coursework I guess.

"Have you ever flown before?"

Amy was the first to take D-Alpha's hand, with Blanc faltering at first. As they touched D-Alpha’s palm he grabbed their wrists and brought them in close, taking them under his arms. Then, with a slight dip at first, he leapt into the air, beat his giant wings and took flight.

The cliff rushed past their faces within seconds, and then they were out onto a large rocky plain. It wasn’t much to look at, but Amy and Blanc were in awe anyway, it’s everyday that you got to experience flight without a vehicle.

"This was how I would return to Kireek after a 'mission'. It's not to far away now"

Nearly there, nearly the end of their quest. The awe of flight was nothing now, as the upcoming fight was all they had on their minds. Blanc reached for his swords, touching the hilts just to remind him that they were there, to make him feel a little bit more secure. Amy just gripped onto D-Alpha's arm a bit tighter, comforting herself and trying to comfort D-Alpha at the same time.

There was a loud slap as D-Alpha suddenly beat his wings hard, then followed them up with some smaller flutters as he ascended to the ground below. A few meters off the ground and he let himself drop, kicking up dust and dirt as he landed on a brown mountainside.

"This is where he is, holed up in the cave up ahead" said D-Alpha, pointing towards the cave mouth that loomed ominously from the mountainside.

"So this is it then" said Amy, a visible quiver in her voice. D-Alpha rested a hand on her shoulder.

"This is your last chance to just turn around and forget about this. This is my redemption, I don't want others to get hurt because of me"

Amy touched his hand and tilted her head so she could see him.

"I won't turn my back on you. Never. We will finish this together" She smiled at him, and he smiled back.

"I've got your back as well, Dee. This has been some adventure you've taken me on, and now it needs a finale" said Blanc, drawing his blades and preparing himself.

"Ok then, this is it" D-Alpha said, taking his scythe to hand. "This is the finale"

Phew, now that took a heck of along time. So sorry about the massive gap, University work just jumped on me and I had to focus on that. Once that was done I was chucked into another assignment to do over the summer (loads of planning and preparation really), had some Job related stuff to get sorted, and also celebrated my birthday with Deuce levels of alcohol abuse. Never try to match someone who can drink 20 shots in a row drink for drink I have learnt.

So yeah, today I finally cleared out the back log of crap and got this up. Im trying to move back into a reguler posting timetable, and hopefully this will be finished soon.

Chapter 15: Righting a Wrong?

They stepped into the cave's mouth and were greeted by a gust of wind that howled and curled around the entrance. It sounded like a silent scream, sending a chill down the group's spine.

The cave itself had seen a lot of alterations, mostly huge metal components propped up and built into the walls. Blanc approached one of the components, resting his hand on it and then moving his ear close to a panel.

"This is a very basic power generator, only working at about forty-five percent of its full power. Its also from Pioneer 2" he said, half in a matter of fact manner, half in surprise. "I don't know where he could have dug this stuff up from, and they seem to be everywhere. What is Kireek powering down here?"

"You will see soon" said D-Alpha, beckoning Blanc and Amy to follow him.

All the walls and corridors that followed looked the same, all adorned with junk and equipment harvested from Pioneer 2. Most of the equipment consisted of power generators, but occasionally some basic Computer equipment would turn up, their blue backed screens flashing up diagnostics and statistics for equipment. Then there was the really trivial junk. Signboards, vending machines, light fixtures, all these pieces of junk had been bolted up against the walls, possibly to act as supports. The creepiest parts though were the effigies of Dark Falz. The beast sneered from many different places, daubed in paint or sitting on clay pedestals. Amy wondered if some of the effigies had come from Pioneer 2 as well, leftovers from the long dead cult.

Their first encounter with the occupants of the cave happened at a covered entrance, a rotting and damaged red curtain obscuring the view to the next cave. The creature that stood next to this entrance was tall and had oversized limbs that it just seemed to let fall limp. Its breathing was strained and it appeared to gasp with every breath. It was idly looking around when it spotted D-Alpha.

"Ah, Master Alpha, you've returned" it wheezed. "Lord Kireek was waiting for yo..."

There was a heavy 'thunk' as the scythe slammed into the thing's skull and pinned it against the wall. Its tongue hung limp and purple blood flowed around its teeth. It seemed to wheeze one last time before all signs of life were gone. D-Alpha then placed one of his large feet on the thing's abdomen and yanked the scythe out of the wall, letting the creature fall into a limp pile.

"Follow, were onto the main chambers now" he said to Amy and Blanc, not saying anything about the incident that had just occurred. They followed, but Amy couldn't help staring at the corpse. She turned away from it as she felt the damp cloth brush against her arm, then pushed forward into the next area.

The all stopped and stared. It was like the chambers that had proceeded, but on a grand scale. Large pieces of equipment had been crudely reconstructed and was whirring away, powering other pieces of equipment that monitored, administered and logged. Surrounded the chamber, built into the equipment, were tubes filled with a purple liquid. Floating in the liquid were figures that looked like stripped down androids. Figures that bore a resemblance to D-Alpha.

"What is this?" asked Amy, her eyes wide with fear.

"This is the Legacy of Dark Falz, his new children"

The voice was tinged with a metalic whine, and came from no one source. It played out from several speakers that had been dotted around the room as a crude PA system.

"Kireek, Ive returned" said D-Alpha, stepping forward in a dramatic gesture an addressing the room itself.

"Yes, I know. But you did not complete your job. Instead you brought two...", there was a sucking sound as he tried to find the right word "Guests back with you. You also seemed to have killed one of your brethren. Are you no longer part of the family D-Alpha?"

"No. I am no longer part of this family and soon this family will no longer be. Show your face Kireek, let me finish this now and get it all over with"

"It's a shame I have lost you D-Alpha, my favoured son. But I will not forfeit my life so easily" There was a whine of feedback and then the speakers cut off completely and they were left in silence.

"Something is very wrong" said Blanc. He turned his off hand blade to run along his arm and his main weapon into an attack position.

"Amy, stay between me and Blanc and kill anything that comes for us" said D-Alpha, who had readied his weapon as well. Amy followed orders, getting between the two and preparing her handgun. She stared down the sight on the top of the weapon, aiming the gun at the doorways that surrounded the room.

"Where will they be becoming from?" said Amy, a small twang of panic in her tone.

"Coming? Amy, they're already here"

Ah, short but...short, heh. I seem to be trying to get my feet firmly back into Fanficcing, but things keep happening at the mo [/crap excuse] I think a good Group Fic my finally get my fingers fully typing (as long as they dont die again).

Slowly getting to the conclusion though, I'll see if I can post some more tomorrow.
