View Full Version : EU server trouble

A little past 7pm CET, the EU servers went down. The 50Hz server is up again, although extremely laggy. I tried the 60Hz servers a few minutes ago, and they were still down....

I just checked the portal at playsega. It says there is essential maintenance december 17 15:00 - 17:00. That supposedly just ended. Guess they messed it up again. Last time that happened it lasted for 2 days. I hope it doesn't this time. I feel the desparate need to hunt rappies...

i feel the desperate urge to kill some staff people over there at sega EU.
i wonder what they get paid for anyway.
and i hope they fix that soon as well as put ep2 cmode onto the eu servers.

PlaySega.com is quite slow for me. I notice they still haven't updated the new quest information notice (Still says Endless Nightmare & Mop Up Operation), or the quest list (Last addition is Seat of the Heart).

yeah, the new quests are up though.
And I just had my first FSOD in months. Last time was with that other messed up maintenance.....
Why now? Why at the time I need the time to do rappy hunting? I sure hope they'll give us extra days to do that. Or extra days on HL will be wasted....

Not just me then http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
The cleaner has to hoover the floor, and theres only one plug socket, so she has to unplug the server to plug the hoover in, and then when shes done that she likes to make herself a nice cup of tea, or cofee, so she needs to plug in her kettle.
one day sega may invest in a new plug socket, or maybe one of those double adaptors, but ntil then, when the place needs a clean, off goes the server.

It seems the FSOD I got was mainly due to the crowded situation on 50Hz. A lot of ppl that normaly play on 60Hz were now filling block 1, lobby 1. We moved to another lobby, and even some of my friends that are prone to FSOD didn't get any more. 5 more Temple runs, and not a single saint rappy. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif
Just checked the 60Hz servers. Still down...
Turning in for the night.

Thanks you Superguppie - I've been going nuts trying to figure out why updating the network drivers on my PC killed my PSO connection. Just a freaky co-incidence http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

i have the slight idea that you might hit bulls eye with that >_>

(my record so far: yesterday 10pm MET trying to dial in. slow DNS server, instant DC when getting on to the game servers (60Hz). well, i play F-Zero for a while and try again at 0:30am. - same. havent tried today so far.)

The 60Hz PAL servers now seem to be back up - just been on with no problems http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

It's odd that 50Hz was available when 60Hz wasn't, since they appear to use the same physical server, just different ports. For the technically curious:

PSO PAL server (60Hz) - pso-gc1.pso.playsega.com (62.73.171.7), port 9200

PSO PAL server (50Hz) - pso-gc1.pso.playsega.com (62.73.171.7), port 9201

PSO NTSC server (60Hz) - gc01.st-pso.games.sega.net (64.95.121.96), port 9100

thanks.

hm, my wild guess is that the DNS servers are different for 50 and 60 hz... what doesnt really make sense though, but well...

That's odd indeed. I did notice some serious lag last night. Maybe the software for both speeds is different, and they were working on the 60Hz stuff while the 50Hz stuff kept at least some service going. Would keep them from having to credit the EU players with another day...
Other possibility is that the machine with those addresses are only gateways to other machines. That would enable service on one port to continue while service on the other was down.

Anyway. Good to hear all is up again. I hope this will be the last of it.

They went up at around 12 hours GMT+1.
I guess they were tired yesterday and went to sleep. And today morning fixed it with all the calm of the world.

A tracert to that server gives me a lot of timeouts. Might not be the servers themselves that give trouble. I can't get online right now.

Hmmm - 60Hz was hanging on the 'Connecting to the DNS server' for ages before announcing:

"(No.101)
Attempt to connect to the server has failed. It is possible that the server is undergoing maintenance. The line will be disconnected. PRESS START."

At the same time, a tracert on pso-gc1.pso.playsega.com (62.73.171.7) was getting stuck looping between 213.130.48.165 and vl-841.a01.londen03.uk.ra.verio.net (213.130.48.161) and I couldn't connect to the server via a terminal program. All of which suggested some sort of DNS problem at Verio or Sega.

It's now letting me get to 'Ship Select' and then giving:

"(No.100)
The line was disconnected. PRESS START."

50Hz is still fine.

I stuck the PSO server IP into RIPE and rang the contact number given, and have the following information from a very nice chap at Sega:

- They're doing maintenance on the 60Hz server and their internal network ready for Ep. III

- The maintenance is due to finish by close of business today, i.e. within a few hours

- The 50Hz server should remain operational

- All EU players will be credited with a free day on their HL

Seems to be good news, if it pans out as they say http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif He didn't mention anything about the rappies, though. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Just tried to connect. The DNS is down for both 50Hz and 60Hz.
As far as I can tell the business day is over in pretty much the whole of Europe, so they should be done...
It looks like we're going the same way as a few months ago when we had 2 days of either down or barely working servers.
Only this time crediting my HL with a day is not good enough. If this makes me miss my chance to get a Christmass Present, ST can look foward to a seriosly flaming email. Not that I have any illusion of ST caring, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to hold it back...

Just checked and I can now log in - just been onto Spica. My HL has also been extended by one day http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I just got on to the 50 Hz server. Seems fine, just a bit laggy. And the extra day on the HL is noted too#
