Happy Holidays everybody! Its been a long while since I last played PSO, but I've recently started up again. Since I've come back I've wondered what fighting styles people use to play thru the game. The other day I was playing ultimate caves with my lv. 103 HUcast and doing so-so. I was knocked on my ass quite a bit and also died a few times (part of it might be my weapon - demo comet and its long combo). It was pretty aggravating to say the least. So I think its time for a change. Hopefully some of you people can provide some good strategies. My current method is basically to attack enemies head on and take whatever damage they dish out to me and hope I stay standing. I occasionally dodge too. This clearly doesn't work in ultimate - so gimme some advice. Thanks for any help provided.

get yourself a God/Battle if you dont have one, and hotkey Jellen somewhere on your attack keys

Use the radar, it's so easy. And choose weapons suited on the situation. If I go to Vhard Forest I use a Yamato/Double Saber for Wolves, Boomas, Giboomas, GigoBoomas. For the Mothmants I use Varista/Strong Mechgun Type. Hildebears use the normal-strong-strong combo w/ Mechgun. Sometimes the Hildebear stops moving and just stands there getting hit http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif

When fighting Dragon, use a mechgun, run up to him until you can hit him (target - head). Then fire away, the head is bad defended so you deal most damage. Try standing next to him once he's ready to breath fire. When he drops, keep attacking it's head until he gets up, then stand by the Pool which he used to get underground, try ALMOST standing in it. 80% of the time, he misses you when he's moving underground, because he won't go trough the pool.

Today I found out a new trick though. When he screamed and went airborne I did my PB Pilla, which attacks flying creatures, he fell back down and he died http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif If you have Pilla you should use that tactic!! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

some of KaFKa's tricks:

2-slash dodge: using a sword on a group of enemies (especially in ult) you just make a weak-hard combo and dont even bother with the third attack. instead you just take a step or two back as the enmies take their swipes, then you turn around and start it all over again. (takes awile, but you will not get hit if you do it right)

HOO-RAH: walk in with a pair of mechs/slicer/good handgun, and walk in, tagging everything you can before they get to you. when they are roughly 15 feet away, lay either a freeze trap or a confuse trap and walk away, waiting for them to get into range of the trap. which you then shoot with your gun/hit with your slicer, and then use your double saber(for one enmy) or sword weapon (for multiple enemies) on them.

circling: when you're up against something that isnt your average booma type enemy (hildelts, C. assasins, garanz, belra, etc...) circle them until youre roughly at a right angle. then attack away, you should have enough time for a weak-hard-hard combo and get away.

for double sabers: use it ONLY on single enemies, not a group (D'OH!) weak-hard-hard is the way to go unless you're behind a belra or something. (being a HUcast, that should be enough to drop just about anything)

for swords: see 2-slash dodge above

for partisans: weak-hard-weak then dodge back and attack again

for mechs: give yourself plenty of space between the enemies and you, too much animation in the end

for handguns: weak-hard-hard, not much else to say

thats about it that i can think of...

I wouldn't use weak-hard-weak with a partisan though. The last slash is pretty slow if you do it weak, so weak-hard-hard would be more propriate http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif
But that's just my oppinion http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

the only time i use partisans is a Vjaya on de rol le, so thats extra-extra-extra there, i just said that since it sounds the most plausible (i seriously dont have any clue as to what any kind of strategy for partisans there is)

Heh, I've tried using the Demo Comet all day in the Ult Caves, it doesn't work too well. After the first hit, you usually get wacked before the second comes out, even with a God/Battle.

I'd recommend you switch to something a little different. I personally LOVE using my Orotiagito in Ult Caves, because the attacks are fast enough so that you can keep him from getting you, but slow enough so that you don't hit him while he's reeling and lose the pushback effect. Almost any Saber, Sword, or Partisan will likely do the same thing, and of course, Handguns and Mechguns are always good.

As someone else has suggested, the go-to combo when you're getting whacked is Light-Heavy, then step back, let them miss you, and repeat. Whether you're using a weapon that hits one enemy, or multiple enemies, that combo will usually keep you safe. It's the best combo there is for making sure you get licks in without taking too many.
