Winamp 5 impressions

I was a little slow in upgrading, but now that I have it, I must say its great. As a 2.91 user and 3.0 hater, version 5 is impressive. If you have a broadband connection definitely check out the TV stations. There is a descent Anime channel and an all animated channel which is running some disney movie atm. For anyone who digs rave, RaveTraxTV (Beta) has some pretty good music. I also was checking out the Radiohead video stations which played GREAT!! (streams at 500kbps.) The Internet radio is amazing quality as well. The stations are mostly crystal clear and load quickly. I just downloaded the free version and not the Pro. Also make sure to download the MMD3 skin. There are TONS of different color themes.

1 final note, there is a station that plays only Japanese Anime music for those of you who are into that genre. Personally it reminded me of the cheesy PSO music (I'll probably get crucified for saying that, but I do find it kind of bubblegum-ish.) Just downloaded it, and wow. Heh, damn worth the download if you have broadband merely for the broadcasted shows.

Yeah, supposedly there will be a ton more stations popping up as well which is cool. I've been watching beatstation-tv! and they've played some descent videos, especially if you dig electronica type stuff. Bare in mind some of the stations are newer and are still stream testing.

Actually, I like the radio stations the best. Hell yeah, there are a ton of stations from the middle east and all across asia. =D

I usually don't care enough to have gotten any updates to Winamp, but yeah, version 5, wheee.

I hated Winamp 3, but 5 seems nice. Old skin support, whoo.

I haven't even tried running videos on it yet, but I figure anything beats what I already have for videos. >_>

Just downloaded 5. At first I didn't notice any differences 'cause it was using my Winamp 2 skin still, right then, I knew it was a good choice. I hated Winamp 3, it ran too slow, no old support, and, well, i dunno. But 5 is much better, I love it already.

Hmm, so it doesn't suck totally then? I'd give it a try, but on dialup it's pointless, so unless it has real improved functionality over 2.81 usable on a bad 56k connection, I'll stick with that. *shrug*

I just nabbed a streamripper and so far it works great for recording the internet radio tunes into mp3. Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone else wanted to actually record some of the music.


The cool thing is it names the files for you and breaks them up into separate files. So if you just let the station run for awhile while you rip, each song will have its own file. No need to break it up afterwards http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Not all the streams run 24/7. I didn't see it in my list just now either.

Select it and just let it keep trying to connect, it usually doesn't take too long to get in. If its ok, I can post a link to the stream ripper if anyone wants to record some tunes. its not warez or anything like that but I figure I better ask first.

I think the latest winamp is great and has almost made up for the rubbish (IMO) version 3.

I don't remember, I don't see now either. There are some kids break dancing though on channel "All Niggin" and its freakin' amazing. These kids are awesome.
