Er, didn't know where to start, so I just kinda jumped in with skin tones... I'll do more installments later, and any requests as to what I should cover next would be appreciated. My faces tutorial would be in here too, but I forgot if I uploaded it to freewebs or not, and if I did what the addy was, so look for that here soon.

Good luck reading my writing. *G*

And I offer my apologies - I did this on cheap printer paper, and you can see the grain of the wooden desk where I coloured...

Darn, I was expecting more pretty pictures...But this is good, too. Well, it would be if I drew. Or was an artist. Or had any desire to become an artist.

Yeah, when I get into more complicated stuff like illustrating hair with coloured pencils, I will do some drawing. But I didn't feel like drawing the same thing that many times just to show how to colour in the skin. *G*

I'll probably do the other ones with just one image, and scan the different stages of colouring it with pencils.

The skin of the characters[for me] Always seems to come out blotchy in places when I use colored pencils, so the next time I attempt to draw{and fail miserably} I will try to remember these tips.

Yeah, that's why I use my white pencil to blend. Prisma colour also makes a colourless blending pencil, and there are blending sticks you can get so that you can smooth out the colour. Note that I think fingers work just as well, if not better than any other blenders, except with coloured pencils.

Yeah Prisma colors are a joy to work with, but they're so expensive. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif I think my highschool art class made our school ever so regret spoiling us with such pencils. Stole almost every box they gave us we did http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif Not that I condone stealing mind you >_>;

But yeah, you can make a blender using some rolled up tissue paper. I sincerely suggest you make a bunch of these because it really does make a huge difference. I just suggest keeping blenders within certain color tones. That way if you try to smooth out some yellow, you won't be smudging a random spot of green on it. Also depending on how you want your shadows to flow, I'd reccomend rubbing the paper from shadows to light to create a gentle gradient. Or rub from your highlights to your shadows to create more abrupt and solid shadows. I prefer going from dark to light though.

Something else that came to mind is that by adding a shade of blue and then adding more peach over it you can create darker shadows. Or add a mood you're trying to present in your pic. Or effect lighting by adding a light shade of the light's color to the highlights.

Also, not all skin is just a peach tone. So long as the shading makes sense you "can" make any pic look good. I put "can" in quotations because you really need to have a good idea of what colors to use together otherwise it'll look like oh so many crappy repaints. But here's an example (http://home.earthlink.net/~michaelmintzer/images/contrastexample.jpg) of shading using contrasting colors I had to do for my last art class. Even the person is actually a pale peach tone, if you shade it properly it should turn out okay. Admitedly though this example kinda sucks because I didn;t realize that when I scanned it, the hair would end up being that shade of blue http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif It seems darker in real life, but I hope that gets the idea across. Anyhow, that's only once you figure out the basics. Figuring out how to shade properly is more important than learning about things like mood, tones, and complimentary colors and contrasting colors in the beginning.

I used to use Prismacolors a lot actually but I eventually got lazy and digital art has spoiled me http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Lol, since I'm too cheap to get more than one blending pencil, I clean them off on my pants. Good thing mom doesn't do my laundry any more, or she'd have a cow finding coloured pencil on every pair of pants I own...

Next installment will be coming soon... I'm gonna be off to PM you about something, Sarunakai...

Okies, people. Thankies to Sarunakai for agreeing.

Tomorrow, hopefully, I'll get up the next thing, which will be about colouring in hair. I have to go find my tracing paper, first... I'm going to do the next installment on black paper, with text added on the computer, because the shading and mixing of colours is a lot more obvious on black paper.

Okies, here's the installment on colouring hair. Thankies to Sarunakai for letting me use the drawing I've been doing of Blaze for this.

It's on black paper, because it's easier to see the adding of highlights and light colours that way...

I may do a hair tutorial using a more normal hair colour as well.
