Does anyone out there know the HTML code so I can place a countdown timer on my webpage, or is there no other way of doing it without using flash or some awkward thing like that?

There are a Kagillion (thats alot lol) sites on the web that offer free counters. Do a search and find the one that has a style you like the best. That way you don't need to do any scripting on your own.

not a counter. I need a countdown clock, a timer that goes down towards a particular date.

those are also available online. Learn to utilize search engines like yahoo and google. It will save you alot of time in waiting for an answer.

Also its not going to be HTML, its going to be something like CGI, Java or PHP.
