View Full Version : Does the server have "happy periods"?

Hey all,

I was playing Very Hard with some buddies yesterday and the coolest thing happened. In the hour or so it took to do the Forest and most of the Cave, we found like 15 rares! They just kept coming! In one room, two dropped in what must have been a 10 second period! These weren't crappy rares, too - they were good ones for a bunch of legit players at our level.

Needless to say, we were very pumped at this point and decided to milk this game for all it was worth. So, we spent the next 2 hours or so beating the Mine and the Ruins. Nothing. Not one rare. In fact, I didn't find one more rare that whole night. (Not that I was complaining).

This isn't the first time I've noticed this, too. Does anyone else notice that the server seems to go through "happy periods" or "orgasms" like this? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Congratulations!

I also found 2 Add Slots in two boxes that were next to eachother on Normal Spaceship with my HUcaseal!
I also found 5 rares on a run in Ult. Forest ones, and the next run you find zero. I'm unsure about On-Line though http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I've noticed it too. And so have many others. It has lead to to some pretty whacked theories about rares dropping, many related to .beat time. I am certain that isn't it, as I usualy play at the same time of day. Sometimes I get loads of'em, sometimes I get none. But mostly rares are rare...

It certainly seems that way. luckiest run I had was online in mines, at least 6 secret gears dropped in about 3 minutes. I was hoping it might be related to beat time, so next day at the same time I play and nothing dropped for me for several hours, till I found another Custom Ray.

If it was related to Beat Times, you could alter the time on your GameCube and get all the rares you want now could you not!?!?

Aye, that you could, which is why it is random, and why someone could find a legit TJ in 3 Seaside runs, and never find a Varista in years.

yeah that is reasonable!
if the rare item or enemy appears at certain beat, ppl just reset the system to that time & get it all the time?
i don't want to discourage ppl who believe in the beat theory, but i think rares appear between beat 000 & 999 http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Such is the way of PSO. If ur looking for something, you won't find it. Some jammy noob will probably find a J Sword first time through Seabed lvl 62 whereas LVL 200 characters might never find it. I've been playing all versions of pso for thousands of hours and not one 12 star and I'll probably never find one.... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Too bad The Sealed J-Sword is only found in Skyly Seaside/Towers http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif. But, I agree, if you are looking for something, it won't show up for a looooooooong time.

Tough to find but nowhere near as bad as J Sword.... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Yeah. It is really cool how rares appear. Sometimes you find nothing then you like find...everything. In a day I go through ult forest and I find a flowns sword from an el rappy and a cure/freeze from a gulgus gue. Then in the same mechgun combo i get another flowens sword and guilty light. And then a silence claw. Two days later my brother gets magic rock moola, two cure/paralysis', a cure/poison, talis, + custom frame. We haven't found anything else worthwhile for days.

Join the club, Nav. Heh.

Good, legit, unpiped finds of mine:

Red Partisan x2
Red Sword
God/Battle
God/Mind(Too bad I already had four at the time, eh? -_-;;; Gulgus-gue, REDRIA FoS for the God/Battle)

...That's about it. Everything else I have that's legit and good, I piped. And piped. And piped. Blech? Sick of piping.

It's not as if I don't look, oh, I do, believe me. I've done ET until I can do it in my sleep with a character I've never actually used in it before, and still nothing has dropped that I've gotten. >_<;

Yep, seen the RAs do their jobs so many times I can play a L84 RA with something approaching success(And then someone hits the Gi-Gue while it has it's shield up, and 900 points of damage my 700ish HP can't take slaps me in the face, ow.). Don't exactly do anything useful like -damage-, but hey, I can freeze it and avoid being utterly pwned by it.

But blargh... It's depressing, really. So sick of looking and looking and nothing drops, not even a lousy Pdrop. Hell on it. Sure, Bravemans and Cross Scars and the like will drop themselves, but always with 0/0/0/0. The one Braveman I've seen with Hit, someone else got. >_<;

And of course my college schedule is evil this semester and I don't have time to look for anything. Whee!

Heh I remember one time when I was doing some Hildetorr runs in MA2 and the torr popped up behind me and nailed me with some of his lovely megid. I got sent out of the game and ended up going to the lobby. I was pretty bummed so I mailed a friend about it and he replied "man we just saw a torr too!". I don't really know what I'm getting at but thought it was relevant. And for the record I don't believe in beat time theories.

That, my friend Auracom, is because Beat theories are poop. As stated above, you could just change the time on your xbox/gamecube to spam for the rare.

I've been testing the hardware reset seed generation theory posted a while back, I have to say it's holding pretty good so far, but it's too early to tell. Search around for the old thread please, don't ask me. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

15 rares????
Damn, I wish I was that lucky...
Well' there was this one time I decided to start a new charater and do a forest run for a quick 5 levels. Turns out that rare enimies really like him. I ran into a hildeblue and 2 Pal Rappys(the blue ones, I think that is what they're called). =?]
