Is the keyboard an essential for online. I'm really really thinking about getting one but i haven't seen any and i thought that i could just type in game. it may be slower but i can use those quick faces just for low HP and i could tell them i don't have one. But should i attempt to at least look for one?

I would say its essential. Using the controller to chat just flat out sux. For GC, your 3 main choices are the Ascii keyboard controller, the Datel Powerboard or just getting an adapter.

Thanks, if i can't find any type of keyboard then i'll suffer. But i will be going online one day. (once i hit level 120)

Although some people bag on it, the Datel Powerboard is actually pretty good considering its only $19.99 and comes with an adapter and the keyboard. The only problem is that some of the character mapping isn't correct for a US keyboard. It only applies to symbols though, all the letters and numbers work just fine and about half of the other symbols work also. BTW if you don't like the Datel keyboard that comes with it, you can switch it with pretty much any keyboard you want and just use the adapter. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

When I started my online shindig back on the Dreamcast, I didn't have a keyboard. People understand, you'll just need to shortcut it so you can quickly tell them that you don't have a keyboard.

Chatting's really nice though, you meet some fun people on there, but don't let not having a keyboard scare you away from playing online.

Having a keyboard isn't a nessecity, but it helps big time when tryin to convey information to other players. I was hella impaitient and I got one after two months of suffering with the soft keyboard, but that was back last year around this time, and $80 Bucks later, ascii. Keyboards are fun for goofin in lobbys and doin silly dances, and shakin around Violently like a hooligan! I'd definitly say stick to playin the game at least, figure out what works for you.

and so on

i'm trying to get a keyboard as well, the Powerboard would be the way to go with this? i'm suffering without a board, half the fun of PSO is comminuication.
