The same applies to the Gamecube version too you know. Just find somebody in Apatite, trade for a pumpkin, and do the offline trick with it.

Create an offline game, keep the pumpkin in your inventory. Open the pumpkin, if it isn't what you wanted, turn off the X-Box (without saving!) and repeat the process.
