Okay, I just got a BBA and connected my modem to it directly then put it in the gamecube. I went to the network setup screen and just pickd all the automatic stuff cause i have no clue how to set it up any other way. Then i tried to buy a hunter's liscence and it said that it couldn't create an IP from the DHCP and it may be down or not exist so... what do i do?

Okay.

USA(New York if that matters...)

Gamecube

Broadband

I don't know what internet service unless I have an example...

Im on cable with an ethernet connection

Im going directly from modem to BBA

The error is that it says Can't create IP address from DHCP. May be down or not exist.

I'm using the cables that came with the modem...

If you are using Comcast, you need to register the MAC address on the BBA with them so their DHCP server recognizes it and assigns it an ip.

Comcast is a cable company. OO may also need for you to register the BBA MAC with them before you'll get an ip assigned since you are using a direct connect. If the DHCP server doesn't recognize the device it will refuse to it.

Did you try registering the MAC? Logic would dictate that you at least try a mentioned solution first. if you are getting a DHCP error then obviously thats where the problem lies. And since OO uses DHCP servers to assign ip addresses than it makes sense that you need to check and make sure the device you are wanting to use is recognized by it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

You could TRY asking nicely for info on where to find the MAC. Sounds simple enough right? The MAC is located on the BBA itself. Take it out of the GC and turn it over, you'll see a smal white sticker that has a 12 digit alphanumeric MAC numder that should start with 00.

Okay. Now could you please tell me what I should do with this number? (that was sincere)

Call optimum online and tell them you want to manually register that mac number with them. Once that is done, you should be able to get online with PSO. You will probably need some info for the tech support person like the account number etc, so they can pull up your account.

Okay. Would you happen to have the number or a place where I could find it?

Find the NY number for your area.

I have no idea. I use Comcast cable, which provides free support and I imagine OO does as well.

You may just have to power off the cable modem for about 30 seconds then back on again. Try that before you call anywhere.

That works sometimes but for like Comcast and OO it won't. Each MAC must be registered with them in order for the device to use the service. Those services normally come with software that does the registering for them (though I prefer to call in and manually do it so that I don't have to load their stupid software lol.)
