Alright, I just got the 56k modem adapter for gamecube yesterday. I have AOL (just read the sticky, can't do that ICP thing 'cause I don't have a BBA) and I'm confused on what the User ID and Password in the Network Setup is. I was told by my friend that the ID is your ISP and the password comes with it when you first get your ISP.

I don't know where to get this ISP "password" and I've already tried my AOL screename and password, which obviously didn't work. Could someone please help me and let me know what the User ID and Password is? Help would be incredibly appreciated. Thanks!

If it is dialup AOL, then ICS is the only way. AOL uses proprietary software to connect you to the internet and you aren't going to be able to bypass that like you can with some (ie. Juno, Netzero) Return the modem and get a BBA.

Pretty much any dialup service that is capable of using DUN (Dial up networking) will work just fine with PSO, because as long as you have the username, password and access number, it will authenticate. Netzero and Juno usernames and passwords won't work because they aren't the actual username and password that gets authticated, which is what the rasspy program helps you find. It "spies" on the program as it attempts to connect and fishes out your "real" username and password. Unfortunately that won't work with AOL.

K, thanks a bunch, but I'm still wondering what exactly is the User ID and the Password?

The username and password the Network Options refers to is normally (non AOL type services) just your regular username and password that you would log onto the internet with. I think your friend is confused as to what he is talking about lol. However like I mentioned AOL uses its own software to authenticate your connection (which neither the GC modem nor the GC can utilize.)

Thanks a ton, VioletSkye, you're awesome. I am so pissed off right now that me and my dad spent 3 hours going to stores looking for a modem, and now I don't even have anything I need. BTW, what is this networking card and Crossover cable that I need? Srry about all the questions, I'm really confused about this ICS process.

the best way to describe the username and password would be by giving a hypothetical situation.

You decide that your going to sign up to Bobs internet services, also known as bobsnet.com
During the sign up process you will be asked to create a username, so your username would be jive18.
you will also create a password, say rabidchicken
to log into bobs internet service you would use the name jive18.bobsnet.com and the password rabidchicken.
during the sign up proces you will be given the dial up number for the conection, say 0123 45678
you then go into windows dial up networking, and put the information in under create a new conection

username: jive18.bobsnet.com
Password: rabidchicken
Dial up number 0123 45678

you would enter this into windows XP as follwos

Ok, so this is what I need to do when I get the BBA and and complete step #1 to allow other network users to connect through my computer's internet connection? If so, thanks a bunch.

you may not even need to get an aditoinal network card, if your getting a BBA for your gamecube.
if your using a USB type broadband modem to connect to your broadband ISP you might have one on your P.C already, take a look round the back, and you may be in luck.
all you need is a crossover cable, and to slect Allow other computers to conect to the internet through this conection.
although you may have a few problems if its AOL/compuserve broadband.

That's the problem, I don't even have a broadband ISP. Do I have to have one, becuase if I do, I won't be getting online, broandband is too expensive for me.

As youve probably guessed AOL dial up isnt compatable with PSO.
youve got two options for dial up access;
Get an aditional ISP as well as AOL
Ditch AOL for a standard ISP

You could also just pick up a cheap NIC card and install that. Then go the BBA, ICS route with your AOL dialup. But just so you know (as Rich_T) pointed out the connection may not be great.

i used Internet conection sharing on dial up for a short while when my broadband conection was down for a couple of days.
it worked but expect frequent disconections and plenty of lag.
the worse thing about using a BBa over a dial upo conection on ICS is that it takes a while beore the game realises the conections been dropped, you have to look out for strange things hapenong, like text freezing on screen, other players freezine and other such stuff, then disconect manualy as soon as you can, otherwise you may get FSOD.

Thanks Rich and VioletSkye, you guys have really helped me out. I think I'm just going to get another ISP (or ditch AOL) and use my 56K modem I just got for online. Hopefully it will work out.

i would recommend Access4Life (http://access4less.net/indexgo.htm) They are cheap and from what others have said, a great service. They also support DUN (dial up netowrking) so you have the choice not to load their software on your pc. Rich_T gave a great example in his pics on how to set up DUN. It will also work perfectly with PSO and your GC modem http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Hmmm... sounds like a pretty good ISP. I was actually thinking about Earthlink, which is pretty cheap, and from what I've heard works really well with the 56K modem. I dunno, might have to check up on this other ISP...
