Getting DSL has been a blessing but has caused quite a few expletives from my room.

This is one of them.

Any ideas why? I didn't change any of my settings...and I've never had a problem with it...

1) Go into the Prefernces.
2) Go to Sign On/Off Tab.
3) There should be an Internet Connection Box.
4) Change that from modem (it should be on that if it was used with 56k) to Local Area Network (LAN).
5a) If you want, have AIM automatically sign on, as you always have a connection.
5b) Hit Apply button.
6) Try that.

If you can't get into step 1, I don't know how to get to that point.

If preferances is the same thing as Setup then yeah I could get into it.

I changed it to LAN but it still doesn't work.

Do you connect through a Proxy? If so, you may have to modify that field. Other than that, I'm clueless; sorry.

some routers act like firewalls... better check out the settings on it... it could possible be that... if it was working before and then it just stoped w/ your new connection its most likely not going to be a reinstall/fix problem... could be but i doubt it... its VERY likely that its your router... maybe try and see what ports aim opens and see if your router is blocking those ports.. if so open them

I can only see the router problem http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Here's what I suggest:

1) Look up the net to see what are the ports AIM use (Usually, typing in AIM ports in a web search engine will get you that)

2) Open the windows command prompt, and if you are under XP, type in ipconfig, it should give you your ip adress, subnet mask and default gateway. Note the number beside the default gateway field.

3) Type that number into your browser, and it should open your router configuration page. Configure it so it opens the ports AIM use, I can't help you with that, since I dunno what router you use.
It works like that with mine, hope it does with yours too http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
I'd suggest asking your parents for this step too, except if they have no idea how their router works...(I know mine don't http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)

Hope that helps, wish you good luck. It may not be very accurate either, I don't have much experience with routers. If it doesn't work, well PM me, I'll try doing better http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Good luck http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
