For the broadband modem it says you need an ethernet cable. If you use something like Road Runner, is that the cable that connects to your Cable Modem and is there anything else you need in order to use the broadband?

Depends on your modem, some use USB, some use Ethernet and other s can use both. Generally speaking the ethernet cable is the cable (non USB) that would go from your Modem to your pc's NIC card.

What do you put for proxy port address and proxy port number?

unless you are running a proxy (which obviously you aren't) leave all that blank. You should have everything set to automatic (which is the default.) So basically for most cable services you don't need to go into Network options at all, you should be able to remove the BBA from the plastic store box thing and plug it in and go. The only thing I can think of that sometimes needs to be done is to register the MAC address of the BBA with your ISP.

Ok, so what do you do if your modem uses a USB and not an ethernet cable? Does that mean you can't use the broadband?

then you can either use hub, router or ICS (internet connection sharing)
