Stupid RPGamer >.< Making huge assumptions again.

Not to mention they don't even know the release date of Episode 3 in North America, which is about a week away now? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Yeah, the real problem is that they're saying Sonic Team won't make any more Phantasy Star titles. There are two flaws in this statement:

1. Yojira Ogawa said they have no plans for more Phantasy Star games, which does not indicate a close for the series, only a hiatus.

2. Sonic Team does not own the franchise, so it doesn't matter even if Senor Ogawa DID say that Sonic Team would never make another Phantasy Star game again-- If a true RPG-style Phantasy Star game were made, Sega would be far more likely to go with whichever team Overworks merged with, as Overworks was the team that developed Phantasy Star 4, and also largely consisted of the staff that worked on the original Phantasy Star, as well as Phantasy Star 2. It's (gasp) the major RPG-producing team within Sega.

Urg.

And I thought Yuji Naka was the owner of the franchise... I thought I was hitting it off!

Hmmm ok what exactly is this suppose to say again http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif to me all it says is that we have no plans to make another game. I could have sworn i heard the same thing after metal Gear 2 Sons Of Liberty,007 Golden Eye and they said that wind waker was going to be the last Zelda game for this console generation, but now they are already working on another one *before someone ask where did i hear this check inside of the previous GMR http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif .

They probably should've STOPPED there...

Heh, sorry... 007 propeganda just doesn't ooze my personal favorite sort of cheesiness...

Look at tomb rader, mega man and crash bandicoot. If anyone says a game is burned out, it just means they will only make about 12 more in the series (for better or [more likely] worse).

exactly you both understand what im saying and yes after 007 goldeneye it really was all downhill from there http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

No matter what people are saying, there most likely will be another PSO. Sega probably makes bucketloads of money off of it, so they would be stupid not to do another sequel to it.

Only if a series sells crappily will it meet its doom. Shenmues final installment may not ever be released and that is a pity since Shenmue is one of the best series I have ever played... and Shenmue II's ending was one hell of a cliffhanger.

Just to play devil's advocate here...

That sort of logic didn't prevent Sega from neglecting to release a major Sonic title on the Saturn.

Hopefully, they've learned their lesson...

Overworks also created Skies of Arcadia, which many claim to be the best RPG on the Dreamcast. Granted, RPGs on the Dreamcast were kinda slim but regardless... it even got high marks on the Gamecube... good for a game over two-three years old.

EDIT: Meira, which Saturn game are you talking about? There are three that I can think of....

Sonic Fighters, the 3D Fighter with Sonic.
Sonic Game Whose Title I Cannot Remember, the game that had ties to the Game Gear game Sonic Triple Trouble (Nack the Weasel).
Sonic Adventure, which was originally planned for the Saturn of course. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I think a Skies of Arcadia-style Phantasy Star would be pretty cool. In fact, if they changed a few names, switched around a few plot points...

"*Gasp!* It's Zelos!
*Smack!*
"I mean, Falz! *Gasp!*"

They should've released a major Sonic title on the Saturn early on, with a follow-up or two. That would've brought more attention to the Saturn (though competition from Sega's own 32X and Sega CD didn't help the Saturn).

Most of the Sonic games that DID appear on the Saturn weren't very significant, and therefore didn't bring a lot of attention. I recall that Sonic Jam caught some attention, but that was little more than a port of the old games with some extra multimedia goodies. Then Sonic R was released, which again attracted some attention, but having personally played the game on my own Saturn... I can honestly say that I don't think a crappier racing game exists on this planet. No joke. A tap of the D-pad will send your vehicle careening off in the general direction that you pushed. Perhaps if it had somewhat reasonable control it would be an entertaining game, BUT... Yeah.

Still, I wasn't aware of that Sonic Fighter. I'm supposing that it either never came to the US, or just recieved a minimum of attention.

And of course, Sonic Adventure for the Saturn was scrapped, because the idea for it came waaaay too long into the Saturn's short-lived career. Which is kind of unfortunate. The Saturn was a fairly solid system, but it was difficult to produce for, and had too much competition from Sega's other available consoles. I think that perhaps it would've been fine if the 32X hadn't been released six months sooner, and Sega could've gotten several more years from the Genesis right along side it, had they pushed the Nomad a bit more. Too many marketting mistakes. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nono.gif

Sonic Fighters wasn't released in the US because SOA didn't want the mascot to be seen in a violent light. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Violent like your standard fighting game? No hop on the enemy antics here, but fighting. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif I'm currently downloading the ROM and I'll post pics.

Note, I'm not telling where I got it and I will not help anyone get it either!

Ironically, I really really wanted to see that sort of a Sonic game during that period of time. It probably would've lead me to buy a Saturn back then, instead of buying a used Saturn later on.

Hmm, emulator isn't working, so I guess no pics for me. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

But, since I cannot link to a site that involves dumping ROMs (even though the pictures are there), just search at Yahoo! with the phrase "Sonic the Fighters" and you'll find plenty of sites with pictures.

EDIT: Here is a page that is safe for me to link to! http://www.angelfire.com//games3/sonichedgehogs2/game23screens.html

Get the little thing out of the way: Skies of Arcadia is the best RPG for Dreamcast and GameCube. It is also one of the best RPG this and every generation.

Anyways, that article is crap. Yuji Naka has stated several times that he will create another PSO game. Maybe the director of the current PSO games might not be on the project but that means someone else will be.

I've got it on PC. I love the game. It's really fun, if you ask me.
