Uncle wrote some songs to a CD to use in his new (Sorta) CD player, but when he puts the CD in it keeps saying "no disk". What the hell? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif Uncle has put the disk back in his computer and it works just fine, there are no scratches on the disk.

Anyone able to figure out what's wrong here?

Can you give a list of compatable disks? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

it's not the discs, it's the type of file your cd player can read. If it's mp3 or something, it might not work. I think i use .wav format and they all work.

Ah, Ok. Uncle checked and they're all Mp3 format, any way to convert them to something else?

Most new CD burning applications convert them while burning. You may want to check out Click n Burn Pro, or CeQuadrat JustBurn. Yeah... that's what I have. e_e

jehosaphaty wonders why uncle is talking in third person. he thinks that it should be possible to change their format using uncles cd burner program

Get iTunes. It should handle everything just fine.

How did you write them? did you just make it as a data disk or did you write it (properly) as a music disk?

And make sure that you burned it as an Audio CD...

Just a plain straight burn doesn't work that well.

I'll use RealOne as an example ...

Audio
mp3
Data

To use with most thingies, you need ot choose AUDIO.

Unless, your cd player can't play mp3s, which I assume is the case.

Either way,

mp3 means they're little mp3 files on the disc (a bout 250 songs)

audio means they're converted into those bigass files that are read by all cd players.
(about 75 mb = 4 minutes)

data means you burn files.
pictures, programs, movies, ... everything else.

Oh, and if (like Outrider said) you do DL iTunes, be sure to set the settings to Audio.

Well, here's what Uncle did. Put a CD-RW in his computer (has a built in CD burner), put the files in the CD folder and selected "Burn files to CD", he selected "Audio". His computer then brought up Windows media player which first converted the files then burned them to the CD. After it was done, it said so and the CD popped out, Uncle put it in his CD player and was promptly dissapointed with the "no disk" message.

Thanks for the advice, Uncle will look into it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Can Uncle's CD player cope with CD-RWs?

Yes, he could put the CD-RW in the computer and the songs played with no problem at all. He just tried iTUNES and it won't even write the songs to the disk. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif Maybe he just needs a new disk?

What brand of disks are you using? Some CD players are real bitchy and won't accept some brands.

RW - ReWritable
they're really expensive, but you can reuse them. ... to a certain degree http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

YOurs is probably a standard writer, (No a ReWriter), and theefor, might not accept the disk.
Meh, I dunno.
I use Fujifilm (RW) discs and bur with the CD-RW thingy n my laptop. Works just fine.
Strangely, it doesn't workwith iTunes thouh, but RealOne does it well. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, and one more thing ...
*kicks Uncle's new cd player for no apparant reason*

Uncle? Just take a baseball bat to your computer. That always makes me feel better.

Uncle is just gonna buy a couple new CD's to use, what kind should he get? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

Uncle should not use CDRW for use in a CD walkman - they get along like fire on water. Instead, Uncle should buy a big reel of normal CDRs and if he writes to the CD then realises he doesn't want the disc, or it doesn't write properly, he should just throw it away and use another.

My Mp3/CD player plays CD-R and RW... mp3 and wav. files...

Best way to make wav files are on Windows Media.
