im pretty sure thats not possible, because the story forces you to change the character you use for certain battles.

it will be, missions asked from some characters like

Break : I want to speak to Sil'fer
or Teifu: Let me help lady Vivianna

Sometimes you also get the message.

Character is already deployed.

plus it is good to get experience with other characters so you can build and get acustomed to various advantages from diverse decks.
