Remember Einstein Scored 137 so anyone that claims above that best have a good reason to why:

A, they havent been into space
B, they havent invented a new type of eco friendly power system
C, they post messages on a website about video games.

I've never taken a formal test, but whenever I've taken an online test, I've scored between 145 and 149.

And to answer your questions...

A. I would imagine that I'm not physically fit enough to survive the trip, and I don't know anyone at NASA, anyway.
B. My studies haven't involved that sort of thing. Actually, I've spent more time trying to break down the logic that time and the universe run on, as well as why it's even possible that we exist. That's a little more sophisticated than power systems. Possibly more important, as well.
C. Why shouldn't an intelligent person be allowed to entertain themselves? It's just like how I tend to veer more toward amusing conversations than intelligent conversations-- the amusing conversations are just more fun. If I want to be intellectually stimulated, I'll go read Plato's dialogues (which I've been known to do, actually).

I got a 140 something, I'm going to be tested at school this summer so I'll know for sure then. I do find myself smarter than my grade, but if you went to my school you'd know that's not saying much. I think I'm pretty smart, I make the top grades in my classes. I don't study, but I don't have to. Is that bad? My dad's really smart, but he might be a bad doctor, he never knows whats wrong with me! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif

according to this PHD brain analisys guy in phoenix, i have an I.Q. of over 160. but according to the tests i've taken (and actually cared about) i would have gotten the maximum alowed for that test (100, 120, 140, etc) so im not sure.

either way, i just know in smarter than the average idiot, and thats just fine with me

You know, I'd just like to point out that anyone that's intelligent enough to be able to respond to a poll like this coherently is going to inevitably have a fairly high IQ.

For some reason, communication on the internet seems to reduce your apparent IQ by 20 or 30 points, compared to the way you'd communicate in real life.

The same reason that 130-139 means you have "telepathic powers". Meaning there is no reason.

I don't need an intelligence test to know that I'm a semi-genius.

Or an egomaniac.

A high IQ means nothing anyway, other than bragging rights.

Let's get something straight here. Einstein didn't test at 137, as was stated. He tested at 237.

I've also pointed out that communicating on the internet seems to make you appear slightly less intelligent than you really are. My IQ tests at 145 to 149 on internet-based IQ tests (I had one tell me that my IQ was 165 or so, but I think that test was flawed, myself), but if you were to judge by the way I post, you might assume that my IQ is more likely in the range of 115 to 119. I suppose it's due to a lacking ability to express my wording with verbal accents.

So, in short, an IQ of 140 or 150 is considered Genius, but a normal "Genius" isn't really that intelligent in the grand scheme of things.

Most importantly though, if you've got an IQ of 95, then you're probably not spelling complete words when you post. Let alone complete sentences. The very fact that a person is able to easily navigate this site and actively participate in the forums indicates an above-average level of intelligence, in this day and age. The next generation will be more attuned to this sort of behavior, so a poll like this will be more fair, but at this point, very few of us are both average and able to post coherently.

Someone I know has an IQ over 190 (officially tested and administered) and finished high school right as the person turned 15 only because they were held back two years for not being mentally matured enough for college at 12. So yes, a high enough IQ does mean something.

My last online IQ test gave me a 149... hmmm. I however prefer to go by the ACT score that I got, which equaled a 28.

People: Oh my god, why are you going to Gogegic! You could go anywhere with that score!

Me: Gogebic is nice and cheap...?

I've been asked on more then one occasion to take the ACT for people. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

EDIT: Do note that intelligence means nothing. I'd rather be friends with dimwhits who give a damn about me then be friends with intelligent assholes (not necessairly towards me but with other people.)

i am teh smartz0r of teh h4x0rz0rz!~`1

i haerd somewhere dat iensteins iQ was somewe're around 160 but thats becuase IQ depends on you're age.

i found a site and it was liek:

"INTELLIGENCE TESTS such as the Stanford-Binet and Wechsler Scales are standardized objective tests designed to measure the Intelligence Quotient or IQ. IQ is computed by taking the MA (mental age) over the CA (chronological age) and multiplying the quotient by 100. Although widely used for prediction there are serious questions concerning CONSTRUCT VALIDITY. Do IQ tests measure intelligence, the ability to learn, or are they influenced by the environment and by what has already been learned? Are they CULTURE-FREE or are they biased in favor of white middle class urban children? Although IQ tests may not have validity, they do tend to be reliable, with students having relatively consistent scores over time."

and i was liek:
"WOAAAAAAAAAAH!"

i am teh smart cuz i am 8 and act liek i am 12 so i have an IQ of 160!!1

i pwn ienstein!!

well, THAT high of an IQ does mean something.

But I meant (sorta) that supposedly intelligent people sometimes have the common sense of a dead rock with wings (beat that!). And some other intelligent people become Dilbert garbage men.

I go by the tests that really count. Such as the ACT, SAT and, in my cases, OCAT and FCAT. All of which I landed a mark in the top 95% or better. However for IQ tests I got around 150-160ish online. Not like I really care about it. So I am smarter than Joe Schmoe over there. He could just as easily get whatever I am going to work towards because, well frankly, how many jobs ask, "Sir, what was the score you got from this online IQ test?" Still fun I suppose.

I personally don't give much credit to the SATs either. One of my buddies from home scored horribly on the test (for him... amazing for me), and repeatedly just did not do what someone of his level of intelligence should've been able to do. He was second in our class, and really just a very bright kid. I think it just boiled down to him not being a test person, or something along those lines. Just because I know people who got higher SAT scores than him doesn't mean those people are smarter than him. Not by a longshot. Otherwise they wouldn't be at a SUNY with me while he's at Columbia. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Actualy they're there not. In some cases they are incorrect, but only because of the person. Like if they have a learning disability they could still be smart, but it would alter their score. You have to take a legit test(not a written test on the internet) to know your real score.

IQ tests are based on age...

if you have a 1 year old baby with the mental age of a 3 year old baby, you have a 1 year old baby with an IQ of ~300. O_o

IQ = just a worthless number

I've yet to see an IQ test that actually measures what it's supposed to. There's a difference between knowledge and intelligence that the people who makes these tests seem to forget. Not to mention the fact that everybody thinks differently, so there's really no way to get an accurate reading.

Kent's right, every IQ test I've been subjected to involved things like calculating percentages and shit. WTF? That's not how smart you are, that's how much math you learned in high school. I'm not mathematically minded, so even when I can be bothered to remember the formulae and such, I still cant' do it in my head. Not very valid for me, eh? Nope, don't know what 15% off that hypothetical item is, and furthermore, I don't care.

Oh, the biggest BS I've ever seen was when I took the SAT. I was given extra time and stuck in a room by myself to go at my own pace. I left about an hour before everyone else, and scored higher than them, too. Sad.
