View Full Version : Does Pack Color Affect Card Type?

This is the question that has been on many a newbie's mind, and when someone tries to tell them the currently accepted theory, someone will always come in and say "that's never been proven." Well, I'm sick of hearing that kind of argument, so I set out to see if the pack color really does affect what type of cards you get.

To do this, I ultimately obtained forty packs of cards, 10 of each. I began with the red packs, and was using Story Mode to obtain them. This randomized which rank I got, and was ultimately too cumbersome to finish the study in timely manner. Thus, halfway through the red packs, I switched to the classic "fight Monster=0" method, which consistently earned me a C+. When I switched to the blue packs, I came up with a method that was just as fast and earned consistent Bs. That method was applied for most of the blue packs, all but one of the greens, and every black.

What follows is the complete listing of every card I got, followed by the totals and percentages of card types (split by the game's own divisions, those being Creature, Item, Action, and Assist). Just scroll down if you don't want to see what the cards themselves were.

Results:
Blue Packs:
Creatures - 30/68 - 44.1%
Items - 21/68 - 30.8%
Actions - 13/68 - 19.1%
Assists - 4/68 - 5.8%

Red Packs:
Creatures - 6/60 - 10%
Items - 34/60 - 56.6%
Actions - 15/60 - 25%
Assists - 5/60 - 8.3%

Green Packs:
Creatures - 10/67 - 14.9%
Items - 20/67 - 29.8%
Actions - 34/67 - 50.7%
Assists - 3/67 - 4.4%

Black Packs:
Creatures - 11/70 - 15.7%
Items - 25/70 - 37.5%
Actions - 25/70 - 37.5%
Assists - 9/70 - 12.8%

Conclusion: While 10 packs is hardly indicative of the thousands if not millions of others already taken, but it would certainly appear that blue packs will yield more monsters, red packs will give you items, green packs will give you actions, and black packs will give you more assists than usual, compared to the other packs. And now there has been a statistical investigation into the matter.

Thank you for your time.

there is a guide here on this site about it is says

blue: Monster
Red: Weapon
Green:Action
Black:No Preferance

and I think its right it works for me.

That's the thing, though. Very often I've seen people say, "well, it's never been proven." Here, it has.

And it seems that the Black deck is actually for Assists. While Assists are never as common as, say, items are in red or actions are in green, they pop up far more commonly in the black packs than in the others.

Well, its more that there isn't a glut of another type of card in Black decks as opposed to the other colors, so yeah, there are more.

Which begs the question: why the hell did Sonic Team not give the decks the colour of the cards it predominantly gives up?

Well I always had my doubts about that. Because whenever I pick Blue pack, I almost always ended up with just items... sometimes not even a single creature found.

But maybe it's just my cube. Afterall, most people don't roll 1-1 for an entire battle. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Thanks on the info tho! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
