View Full Version : Mag: Noobish Rati Question--why Rati?

That is, why do people want Ratis so much?

I mean...yes, it's very cool-looking. That's a definite plus.

But no matter how much time I spend thinking about it, I can't see the benefit to having a mag that occasionally casts level...what, 3? 5? S/D all the time. Obviously, if you're any android or a HUmar, yes, then I see the point--but I also hear people talking about having Ratis with RAmars, HUnewearls, RAmarls, and Forces--and about them being the "best" mag for such classes.

So, aside from the general "coolness" factor--I mean, we all equip weapons, armor, and/or mags now and again just 'cause we like the way they look and/or want to give our characters some personality (I won't use rifles with my one-eyed RAmarl, for example--no depth perception ^_^)--why the Rati?

I myself hate rati's. I think they are over used and people say "It goes with everything". Well thats what they like to think but truth is red and black does NOT go with anything. Also whoever programed it was lazy and the right mag is crooked... Looks really bad too when you have a rife or launcher equip

I never got this either. I don't think they look that good in more than like 3 colours on like hucasts and umm humars. I asked this awhile back and the response scared me. Preta is clearly the most awesome. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I think that on my ramarl I don't really need mag help that much so I lean toward personal flare. No one else uses preta, but its soo cute. So basicaly, people like the way it looks for whatever reason, I won't question it just ponder it.

Looks.

In PSO:
Looks > Functions (some exceptions apply), since in PSO, many different things actually show up on your character. Rati is the best looking Special Mag, and for some characters, the specials of a Mag don't matter much (such as RAmarl and RAmar, since they generally stay out of the action most of the time, and rarely have the specials activated, and not everyone always remembers to cast S/D right when it stops).

Edit:
Tell me this isn't cool, and you will be dragged into the Landfill, and umm... tortured.

Okay...cool. If it's people's fashion sense that makes them popular, more power to them. Just so long as I know I'm not being an utter moron for missing some obvious statistical point.

... o_O O_o

I said some exceptions apply. and generally, some of the better items do have good functions. Especially with weapons. You don't need very powerful weapons to play this game, and it is not that hard to do with a cool looking 9* weapon (or anything else with limited special abilities).

There's nothing wrong with liking something based on looks. Sometimes it just adds that tiny ounce of enjoyment seeing your character look cool. I myself just started using a blue/black Diwari (gives crappy Shifta/Deband) on my RAmarl instead of my old Nidra (gives invincibility) just because it goes better with her outfit.

That said, I don't like Ratis either. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Just my opinion though. Everyone should just use what they like.

Well i am a Skyly HUcast and i like Rati because it looks cool and its what my section ID gets with the stats i want for a mag. at 200 it will be 10/140/50/0

btw, Nidra is a great Mag as well, 3 to 5 sol atomizers raises a pow lvl on it!

lol, Rena

And no, Ketchup, this is not "cool". Rati on a RAmarl is http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_barf.gif >_<
other than that I agree with what you said.

Must be the angle, or you aren't using the right outfit(s). The Rati's red goes perfect with that red costume, and the hair and wings match too.

What do you use on your RAmarl?

Before I go on, I must say that IN MY OPINION Rati is too big for use on small chars, it looks disproportionate, that was what I meant, not the colours.

Outside of HUmar, cast and caseal, the Rati is only good for it's uber cool lookingness.

And I am also a, Looks > Function palyer http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif

For a Force, a Rati would probably be the worst kind of mag. But it looks so cool ^-^

Because Rati = sexy.

Once made, they are slow but simple to raise, especially for POW... Moons with a few Monomates now and again to keep DEX from levelling(Unless you want it to, and watch your teammates), or straight-on Dimates...

And once at 200 they're really easy to maintain, too. 2 synchro from a mere 300 meseta Dimate. Sato, for example, wants other more expensive things for Synchro - Trimate, Trifluid, Moon Atomizer and Star Atomizer to raise synchro without IQ loss. Tris are expensive, 2000 meseta a Trimate, 3600 a Trifluid, Moons are the best option, though as with a Rati, you should be careful that you don't run out because you fed them all to your Mag and then someone dies. XP

Did I mention they're sexy?

And Kef, bah, Rati looks great on my RAmarl.

I myself am going for maxxxed out charcters, which means a very strict mat/mag balance... which means no ubercool fourth evolution mags, at least until I get everything else sorted.

Why are Rati so popular? Several reasons:

1. It's very cool-looking. A set of elegant, stylized wings? Goes well on any character, although I'd have to agree with Kef - I don't like Rati as much on smaller characters.

2. It's got pretty useful abilities. S/D is great for HUmar, and the Droids. Of course, I use one on a FOmar...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Sadly, it's a bitch to get to 200...although, I've only raised Dex and Pow on one, never Mind or Def. Maybe those raise better...

Rati > Hacked Mags.

Also, Rati > Davil's Tails.

Rati's are cool when you get them but just getting to THAT point is a living hell! I myself use a POW Rati for my HUmar but when it comes to RA's I use my Dex + POW churel. I don't acre how something looks on a char. Look at it this way you could hv the perfect char suit match the mag but does THAT make you a good player? Hell No you need a good mag plus good weapons or techs to stand a chance. Last night I saw this RAmarl that said she was the best cause her mag matched her char. I entered a game and she followed. I was level 199 and she was 200 (used AR no doubt) and at the end of the first room in ruins I used all 10 moons on her and then 10 extras. She started crying cause her char+mag match was (as she called it) perfect and nothing could beat it. I told her that if you used a mag just for looks and nothing else you will never get past the levels. She got pissed and left. What I am trying to say is besides you only a few players care if their stuff matches or not.

hehe, thats right. If you think a basic mag is the best looking you won't get far wearing it. I've met alot of people at high levels or ar or just hack mags that play really really really badly and think they're the best.

Basic Mags:
I've gotten a character into Very Hard using no Mag at all. It isn't that hard.
I could have gone much farther.

Mags are useful, but not required to make this game easy. If you have the skill, you could beat ultimate without a Mag. My RAmarl's Rati has very weird stats (5/75/42/83 or something like that), and I get through Ultimate without much of a problem. I hit without using any */Arm units, and do satisfactory damage for me.

Mags aren't necessary, they are just helpful. They are great for looks, and some (like Rati) for looks, functions, and stat boosts.

I know you can get by without a mag,but some people aren't skilled players and try to get by using a low level one and do poorly.

I'm another one of those people who believe in looks over functionality.

Nyare has a Rati with purple energy wings because I just like the way it looks. She also has a Heart Of Poumn that I rarely bring out just because it's my favorite looking weapon in the game.

Sammael has an Opa-Opa because I love Phantasy Zone (hoping Sega Ages Phantasy Zone comes out for the PS2 in the US soon!) and I love being able to yell out OPA! I wear it over the much more functional Nidra because I like Opa-Opa that much.

Going back to the Rati, I was also planning one with blue wings for my now defunked HUmar Albedo, because they remind me of Airds from Xenogears/Xenosaga thus going with the Albedo character.
